I never could get the hang of Thursdays…but Pour House Pub Trivia always sorts me out!

A mildly warm Thursday evening of Pour House pub trivia! Could it be that Old Man Winter is finally on the outs?!

STAY TUNED ON…As The Seasons Turn…

We had a question tonight to ferret out the DUKE fans in our midst! We all know Coach K, but only a TRUE DUKIE can spell Shasheffski as KRZYZEWSI!

It’s always exciting to see Jermaien and Bret pop up on a Pour House Set! It’s BUSINESS TIME!

In fact, it was perhaps one of our most globe-spanning sets, with a trip to New Zealand with our Conchord friends, and then up to the Great White North with Bob and Dough McKenzie! YA HOSERS!

Additionally, we hit Denmark, home of THE WORLD’S GREATEST TOY, LEGO Bricks! And finally on to the top of Mt. Ararat and into Turkey!

We might have hit more countries before, but that’s got to be near the top of our globe spanning!

See how the games went down!

Bunkers – Leesburg, Virginia

Bunkers…you folks always keep me hopping.

We are adding at least one set of new faces each week…so someone must be spreading the word about how awesome the game is at Bunkers!

Thirteen teams were vying for prizes on this day. Our new method of “Write something funny if you don’t know” always has me giggling at the podium…so thanks for that! Here’s the highlights!

Top Three Wrong Answers of the evening!

  • This term is defined as the science of using materials capable of undergoing self-sustained exothermic chemical reactions for the production of heat, light, gas, smoke and/or sound: Gynecology! Oof. I do NOT want to share that doctor!

  • The Royal Themed audio clue had a Sting/The Police correct answer…but since it was a mystery…”The Sting and I” – Very clever, guys!
  • And the final one, concerning a shared film title between 2012 and 1987… “My girlfriend was 6 in 1987 – No. Clue.” A little feisty BUT I LIKE IT!

Some VERY high scores from our top three this evening, including a winner who got close to our all time record of 175 points!

Third place went to the Thundercats! HOOOOOOOOOO!

Second place went to Spam, Eggs, Sausage and Spam! I DON’T LIKE SPAMMMMMMM!

And your winners, with a whopping 173 points AND a PERFECT puzzle page…CRANIUS MAXIMUS!

Congratulations all! Cranius Maximus has chosen U.S. Supreme Court History/Cases as our first category!

Champion Billiards – Frederick, MD

The weeknight record has been set – 23 pub trivia teams threw down tonight in a wild lil’ game of Pour House Trivia at Champion Billiards! Goodness…let me tell ya, running a game for 23 teams requires a host  to get his hands dirty, his elbows greased, his wits juggled and his brain rocked a bit. AND I LOVED IT. In the end, we had some crazy laughs and SOME awesome times tonight in our record setting evening! Season 9 is shaping up to be the record setting season.

Climbing to the top of a 23 team ladder is no easy accomplishment. Tonight we gave out extra world series points to our Top 5 teams for accomplishing this feat.

Dan’s Restaurant – Boonsboro, MD

Another great night of trivia at Dan’s Restaurant and Taphouse in Boonsboro, Maryiand, here is how this very close game went down! Fisted Sister jumped out ahead early but BTI was hot on their heels for the entire game.

Sister prevailed for first by only one point, with BTI sliding into second. Army of Dorkness stayed right there with them both, and finished in third.

Join me at Dan’s again next week, where our first category will be The Big Lebowski.

Fish Market – Alexandria, Virginia

We had some out-of-towners stroll into the Fish Market tonight. Our Frederick veterans Wiseacres decided to take a short road trip and join us for trivia tonight. It was a trip well worth it as they led most of the game and ended up pulling off the victory by a single point over our reigning champions Put It on Seabass’ Tab! Great game tonight Wiseacres, well played. Third place went to Humantaray who play consistent all night and held on to their placement going in and after the final question. I’ll see you all next week!

1st Place: Wiseacres
2nd Place: Put It on Seabass’ Tab
3rd Place: Humantaray

Next week’s category: The Truman Administration

Guidos – Frederick, MD

I had a fun time filling in as host at Guido’s Speakeasy tonight for trivia! Thank you to all the teams who came out and didn’t give me TOO much of a hard time!! It was actually a really exciting game with a back and forth first and second place race which by the time we finished round four, was a two-way tie for first!

Then we had the final bonus question… and after that, we STILL had a two-way tie for first place!! After a tie-breaker question to decide the winner, this is how the top three broke down. With a calculated final wager of zero on the final question, third place was awarded to the Fourth Spy!

Losing the tie-breaker question but winning second place tonight was None Pizza with Left Beef! And winning the tie-breaker question AND tonight’s game… Stink Floyd!!! Nice job and much thanks to everyone who came out and played, Stink Floyd chose “Yes, it’s Puerto Rico” for next weeks winners choice category, so study up, and Torrie will be back to see you all next Thursday!!  ~ Jon J

Quincy’s – Gaithersburg, Maryland

A little March Madness and a little trivia madness on Thursday night at Quincy’s, as we had a dozen teams take the court for some questions and answers.  The leaderboard was jumbled for three rounds, but Uncle Jack swiped 6 points on the 6-4-2 with Denmark, padded their lead in round four, and picked up the final answer for the win.  Two in a row for Uncle Jack!  A brand new team, Lowered Expectations, also picked up the correct response on the final to take second, with Boats and Ho’s rounding out the top three.  Next week starts with a question onthe former Fox TV show “Wonderfalls”.  Look it up….  ~ Matt
