I Dream of… A Great Night of Wednesday Trivia!
So, the weather hasn’t been perfect lately… That’s OK, the action is always hot on trivia night! At Wednesday night’s game, we reminisced about the very UNsuccessful TV spinoff of “Harry and the Hendersons”, and gave you a bit of a sneak preview on the upcoming “Fifty Shades of Grey” sequel, a film series of which just about everybody has a (differing) opinion. We also found out what is NOT an official language of Belgium (oops…). So much for the ‘mea culpa’ section of tonight’s blog. Onto the rundown:
WEDNESDAY’S STATS AND FACTS (64 teams across eight venues):
–> Highest Overall Score: Sexual Chocolate (Memories) with 172
–> Highest Score after Round 4: Tokyo Sex Whale (Belles’) with 161
–> Highest First Half Score: Fat Kids Are Hard to Kidnap (Valley Grill) with 90
–> Perfect 21 (correct on all wagers and final): Stupid Sexy Flanders (Valley Grill), Tokyo Sex Whale (Belles’), Multiple Scoregasms (Bennigan’s – Frederick), Dum Dums (Bernie’s), Olney the Lonely (The Tavern)
–> The average score on the halftime page was 17.2, with nine teams notching a perfect 20.
–> About 30% of our teams were able to snag six points on the 6-4-2, by knowing that Willamette University (the first university established in the western United States) is located in Oregon.
–> For the SECOND TIME this month, Mike Maccarone of Stink Floyd notched a SOLO VICTORY! He has now scored solo wins at 21 different PHT venues. You read that correctly…
TONIGHT’S FINAL QUESTION (79.5% success rate):
–> According to an origin story during the show’s second season, the title character of what TV series was born in Baghdad in 64 B.C.? (you’ll find the answer later in this blog)
Valley Grill in Middletown, MD
Another great game of trivia once again here at Valley Grill in Middletown, I missed you all while I was on vay-k! These trivia players handled tonight’s questions masterfully including a final that about 60% of you got correct. Thanks again for coming out, and here are the results after our tie-breaking finish:
First Place: Fat Kids are Hard to Kidnap
Second Place: Stupid Sexy Flanders
Third Place: The Rookies
Next week’s first category: “The Wire”
~ Ronnie
The Tavern in Olney, MD
It was nice to be back at my regular Wednesday night trivia game at The Tavern. All of my regular teams always tell me that the missed me whenever I miss a week there and it always warms my heart! Once we got to the game however, they all turn into vicious warriors ready to destroy each other in trivia battle! The scores stayed pretty close for most of the game, but once the final was answered it looked like this…
First Place: Olney the Lonely
Second Place: Arnold Palmer Fan Club
Third Place: Moving Forward
Next week’s first category: “Hamilton”
~ Jon J
Applebee’s in Frederick, MD
Tonight we had a pretty waterlogged game, as the skies decided to open up and dump all the water out during our game. Luckily we were inside for most of it, so it wasn’t all that bad! We started with a question in a category I loved, which was a triple 50/50: Does Sean Bean live or die? In the question we named three films he was in, and you had to say whether he lived or died. Turns out he died in “GoldenEye” and “LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring”, but lived through “Troy”, somehow.
Tonight’s final question proved to be an interesting one, asking about a classic TV show where the title character was born in Baghdad in the year 64 BC. Several teams knew the answer, which was “I Dream of Jeannie”, and scores didn’t change much. Here’s how the final standings worked out:
First Place: We’ve Embraced Our Mediocrity
Second Place: Making Money Milking Monkeys
Third Place: Dalek Dance Party
Next week’s first category: ” Luke Cage (a Netflix series which actually comes out on Friday!)
I know I’ll be watching! Until next time…

Belles’ Sports Bar in Frederick, MD
Tonight was my first night hosting ever at Pour House Trivia, so first I want to give a shout out to the crew at Belles’ for being such gracious hosts. Secondly, I want to thank all of our high energy teams who gave it their all last night and making me feel welcome tonight.
Of course, we had to throw in some questions in there about our 2016 Presidential Election. Shameless plug – Go out there and register to vote if you haven’t already done so 🙂
September is almost over and of course, now that Fall is here what are we thinking about – HALLOWEEN! If you are still making plans for Halloween (or have already made plans – cancel them!), then come join us for our Halloween Theme Game night on October 29. There will soon be details on the PHT website, so come join us and have a great time and meet some great people.
The two teams battling it out till the very end were Tokyo Sex Whale and Flight Level Awesome. It was a battle throughout the night with these two teams keeping each other on their toes. In the end, Tokyo Sex Whale came out on top! Join us for another game of riveting PHT trivia at Belle’s next Wednesday night! Here are the winners for tonight:
First Place: Tokyo Sex Whale
Second Place: Flight Level Awesome
Third Place: Halfway to a Threesome
Next week’s first category: NASCAR of the 2000s

Bennigan’s in Frederick, MD
The torrential downpour couldn’t dampen our spirits tonight at Bennigan’s in Frederick! Our game of Pour House Trivia was a hot one!
Highlights of the Night:
In “These-Aren’t-Even-Tonguetwisters!”: I dunno what was up with me tonight guys, I’m sorry! I was having so much trouble with words. I think it’s probably the lack of sleep. It might also be the stress from the day job getting to me. Or I may just be out of my head thinking about my weekend trip coming up. Can’t be sure…Regardless, I’m sorry I suck!
In “Second-Quarter-Nose-Dive”: The second round tonight was murder; points were getting dropped left and right across all five questions. Set the stage well for the remainder of the game, much to the teams’ chagrin. Can’t all be softballs boys and girls!
In “I-Don’t-Care-What-You-Say-It’s-Trash”: “Fifty Shades of Grey” is garbage. Period. End of story. The book is bad, the movie is bad, and the sequel is gonna be bad. Anything that starts out as a Twilight fan fiction needs to go away. I will always rant about this…
The final question didn’t effect much change on the scoreboard, as most of our teams were able to come up with the correct response, so our podium was set fairly quickly.
First Place: Multiple Scorgasms
Second Place: Bumbleslayer (as a duo!)
Third Place: Momentary Lapse of Reason
Next week’s first category: Triple 50/50 (“What’s Happening!!” or “Good Times”)
Until then,
~ Ian
Bennigan’s in Clarksburg, MD
A good sized crowd tonight at Bennigan’s, besting the rain and cruddy weather to come join us for trivia night! Lots of our regular teams filled to the brim with more players than normal; Strangers (normally 2) had 4 tonight, Don’t Call Me Shirley (normally 4) with a full 7, We’ll Try Harder maxing out at 7 tonight too! Would be a good game tonight; we’d see if Roaming Gnomes would back up their win last week with a W tonight!
Don’t Call Me Shirley looked VERY strong tonight with their full squad of 7 players. A long hiatus from Math Debaters was broken tonight as they showed up for the first time of the Season, looking strong as well, holding 2nd place going into the 3rd round. Round 3 beat most of the field with the NFL Stadiums question, looking for the Carolina Panthers’ stadium’s sponsor. Bank of America would get points there, not one team picking up the additional 2 points for the former name (Ericsson Stadium).
Going into the final, Shirley (who I’ve been told not to call Shirley) was tied with the Roaming Gnomes, who made a nice little comeback. The final played fairly easily so the tie was NOT settled with that question, so it was a tiebreaker that would do it! Total capacity of Bank of America Stadium. Shirley says 75,002, Roaming Gnomes says 77,000. Actual answer: 75,412… Shirley takes it down! Exciting finish! RG for 2nd, 3rd place tonight to We’ll Try Harder! Back next week, thanks all for coming out!
First Place: Don’t Call Me Shirley
Second Place: Roaming Gnomes
Third Palace: We’ll Try Harder
Next week’s first category: Einstein’s Theory of Relativity

Memories in Mount Airy, MD
A packed house and a challenging set of questions made for a good night of trivia at Memories this week! Teams stayed VERY close all the way through to the end, with a THREE-WAY TIE FOR SECOND closing out the night’s excitement. In the end, Sexual Chocolate makes it 3-0 this season, and select “The Plantagenets” as next week’s first category. The house of nobles, not the band.
For the record, Mrs. Cruise WAS his wife… all of them.
First Place: Sexual Chocolate
Second Place: (with a crazy close guess on the tiebreaker) Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me
Third Place: Team Awesome
Next week’s first category: The House of Plantagenet (simply memorize the handy reference guide below)
See you next week!

I mean…now I got a wild hair for some Chubby Hubby ice cream! Hosting bar trivia has its challenges when you have a sticky, easily influenced brain like mine. And Chubby is seductive culprit!
After I wiped the slobber off of my laptop I was able to get through what turned out to be a caaaaraazzzzyyy game of pub trivia tonight – complete with a SOLO WIN, a leap from behind and a tie-breaker!
