I Can’t Belize How Much Fun Trivia Night Can Be!

We had some packed houses for Thursday night trivia, as three different Pour House venues posted fields of 15 or more teams each!  We are getting oh so close to the World Series, and several teams are putting on a clinic leading up to the big day!  On to the nightly recap:

THURSDAY’S STATS AND FACTS (74 teams across seven venues):

–> Highest Overall Score: Lee Carvallo’s Putting Challenge (Fish Market) with 163

–> Highest Score after Round 4: Lee Carvallo’s Putting Challenge (Fish Market) with 163

–> Highest First Half Score: Lee Carvallo’s Putting Challenge (Fish Market) with 88

–> Perfect 21 (correct on all wagers and final): Lee Carvallo’s Putting Challenge (Fish Market)

–> The halftime page was a bit on the tougher side, with an average of 16.8, and no team able to score 20, thanks to a couple of toughies on the “Doctor or Dr.” section.

–> Likewise, the 6-4-2 question about different references to “Jason” was equally tough, with only about 15% of our teams snagging six points.

TONIGHT’S FINAL QUESTION (52.5% success rate):

–> Earning its independence from the United Kingdom in 1981, which country is known for its sugarcane, its extensive coral reefs, punta music, and the lowest population density in Central America? (you’ll find the answer in this blog)

Champion Billiards in Frederick, MD

It was our last night before World Series and 18 teams were in here looking to sharpen their claws for the forthcoming battle royale!  Some of you were flying high and some of you were just getting the flubs out before the big show!  Add in a good number of new teams and it was a well rounded game here at Champions tonight.  Once we worked out that I need yes – a team name, and yes – a wager on each slip, things moved along at a much better place! It’s pertinent information people!  And it was often our veterans!  Terrible role models 😉

At our final standings, Syn Storm would have been right in the middle of it (I know that’s where you like to be) but there were too many players on the field and you opened the way for Alternate Facts to step up on to the podium! 2nd went to Vitrifers and 1st was no surprise – Power Vacuum!

Bunker Sports Cafe in Leesburg, VA

Back at Bunker Sports Cafe in Leesburg for a little pre-season game leading up to next week’s start of Season XV for Pour House Trivia.  We had quite a few teams compared to the norm here at Bunker so thanks to you all for coming on out.  First half went fairly well, the Eagle landed, Justin Beiber sang, we drank a little, Mary Tyler Moore was remembered, and “big walking carpet” was referenced in a viral video.  Our second half caused a couple of teams to struggle a bit with references to a future MLB Hall of Famer, the Beaver State, Saddam Hussein, and Scrubs’ own “Tasty Coma Wife”. Good luck at the World Series, and here are the results of tonight’s game:

First Place:  Cranius Maximus

Second Place:  Indians

Third Place:  Thundercats

Smoketown Brewing in Brunswick, MD

Smoketown!  Always a crazy place…and what a crazy night it was.  We started off learning about Uranus, then went into a conversation about my age (yes, I’m 26… Sorry folks!).  We ended with a very unfortunate advertisement for Smoketown’s Pale Ale (WHICH IS AMAZING BY THE WAY).  But the biggest story was the end to The Scoundrels’ streak.  I lost count, but this is the first time they have lost since the second week we started at Smoketown – that was one hell of a run guys.  So we crowned a new winner tonight with The Singing Inferno!  Here are your top three scores as we gear up for the start of Season XV one week from tonight:

First Place:  Singing Inferno

Second Place:  Frostburg’s Finest

Third Place:  Magnificent Seven

Next week’s first category:  Broadway Musicals

Good luck to all of the teams going to the World Series!

Morgan Ridge Railwalk in Salisbury, NC

Wow, last night was great!  As we begun the game it lead off with the wining teams category which was presidents. The question was asked which U.S. President served two non-consecutive terms, and the answer was Grover Cleveland.  I was just amazed that so many teams knew that answer.  But get this… the winning team from last week didn’t guess it right ☹ which truly broke my heart.  I just love the creativity on the team names that are given each week like “New Kids On The Block”, “Slow Bro”, “Crow a Toe In” and I just think to myself…where do they come up with these names? However the winner last night was “New Kids On The Block” with 130 following in second “Crow a Toe In” with 90 and lastly “Slow Bro” with 55.  I think the hardest question was the Three Clues / One State, with the answer being Oregon.  But all in all, it was a smooth running night.

Our winning team New Kids on The Block picked Disease Names as the choice for next week’s first category.  We’ll see you next week at Railwalk Brewery and Eatery in Salisbury, N.C.!

Fish Market in Alexandria, VA

The last game I’m personally hosting until the World Series was tonight at the Fish Market and I feel like we’ve got ourselves quite a game lined up on Sunday! The A Team sent 3 of their members to the Fish Market tonight to scope the competition. They competed here as Lee Carvallo’s Putting Challenge, and they were just insanely strong. PC Principals, the Fish house champion from this season, was here to continue their winning ways but it looked tough against a formidable opponent.

PCP looked good and kept it even for a long while, they trailed by just 2 points after the 6-4-2, but Round 4 was not kind to them. A miss on 2 wager questions cost them quite a few points and a game that was just a 2 point difference turned into a runaway for Lee Carvallo’s Putting Challenge. 163 to 149 going into the final, that was all she wrote. In defense of PCP, Lee Carvallo looked damn good, missing only a 2 point bonus (crossed out “Elle Fanning” for “Bela Thorne”) and 3 point on the Halftime page. The rest of the game they were perfect. Those are hard numbers to compete with, they look ready to make some noise and potentially take down their first World Series victory!

With that win, Lee Carvallo takes the top prize and gives us Modern Dance for next week. PCP taking 2nd place and 3rd going to Bless Your Heart. Next week begins our new season, hope you’ll join us for the beginning of this milestone season for PHT! Until next week guys, thanks! And GOOD LUCK ON SUNDAY!!!!

Guido’s in Frederick, MD

Our last game of season 14 was a fun one at Guido’s Speakeasy on Thursday.  Again we had a couple new teams try their hand in playing, and that always fun for me to see!  Almost every team but one seemed to struggle a little bit during the game (but better that happen here, than on Sunday at the World Series I say!), so our winning team had 1st place pretty much locked up after the puzzle page, but there are always a top 3 winners, and they were… 3rd place went to Team Felicia, 2nd place was Team Yoko, and a dominant 1st place win went to T.N.C.!! The first winners choice for season 15 at Guido’s will be “Triple 50-50: Baking or Baked” Good luck to everyone on Sunday and I’ll see everyone next Thursday at Guido’s!!
