Hit the Bullseye with Thursday Night Pour House Trivia!

While Tuesday might be the busiest night of the week for Pour House Trivia, it’s Thursday night that has the highest average attendance, as five of our six venues featured at least ten trivia teams this week.  So with all of this stellar competition to contend with, who were the best teams?

THURSDAY’S STATS AND FACTS (58 teams across six venues):

–> Highest Overall Score: Clever Team Name (Quincy’s) with 175

–> Highest Score after Round 4: Clever Team Name (Quincy’s) with 163

–> Highest First Half Score: Just Good Enough (Champion Billiards), Planned Obsolescence (Links at Challedon), PC Principals (Fish Market) with 90

–> Perfect 21 (correct on all wagers and final): Clever Team Name (Quincy’s) and PC Principals (Fish Market)

–> The halftime page yielded and average of 17.4, with six teams scoring a perfect 20.  About 20% of our teams earned six points on the 6-4-2 question by knowing the record label started by Led Zeppelin featured he word ‘Swan’ in the name (Swan Song Records).

TONIGHT’S FINAL QUESTION (52.9% success rate):

–>  During the first week of TV coverage for the 2012 Summer Olympics, which sport was reported by NBC to be the most-watched sport on its cable networks, perhaps due to the sport’s rising prominence it both literature and film?  (you’ll find the answer later in this blog)

Quincy’s in Gaithersburg, MD

After a week off, we had a barn burner at Quincy’s tonight!  With just 1 point separating our top 6 teams for most of the night, it was the closest game of Pour House Trivia in recent memory!

Every single point counts – and Clever Team Name held on to their 1-point lead through 4 grueling rounds and stood atop the podium at the end of the night.  Blue Collar and Lowered Expectations rounded out our top 3, taking 2nd and 3rd respectively.

It was close all night – but a few teams blew their chance on our Diseases and Disorders category.  It’s a good thing you aren’t doctors – mistaking the mumps for tonsillitis would get your practice some bad Yelp reviews.

Next week’s category, as chosen by CTN, is Classic Rock.  They told me specifically to keep it in the 60s-70s – to me, classic rock is blink-182 and Sum 41.

Thanks for another great night, see you again next week!

Champion Billiards in Frederick, MD

Oh Champions…  We laughed, we sobbed, we taught new players how the game is meant to be played!  Tonight was a perfect example of teams feeling comfortable only to have the final knock things all over the damn place!  I know it wasn’t a normal night for us but there was definitely the normal drive for the prize!  Those Champions gift cards are some sweet swag to be walking away with…

Let’s talk about who is getting those big money prizes.  Moving in to 3rd was a Crudely Drawn Penis! Penis!  2nd went to Power Vac with the magical number of 169 and in 1st it ended up being Serenity Now!  Brace yourself, all of the boy band is coming… Next week we start with an audio, Triple 50/50 Audio no less, when we’ll ask New Kids on the Block or Backstreet Boys.  See you then!

Bunker Sports Cafe in Leesburg, VA

Tonight’s game here at Bunker was a real close one, with 5 teams all tied for first after the halftime puzzle was scored. Though the scores did eventually separate just a tad, those same 5 teams had a shot for first going into the final question. These players were on point, with only a little college football history causing a few hiccups. Here are the results:

First Place:  Your Mom

Second Place:  Indians

Third Place:  Thoroughly Screwed

Links at Challedon in Mount Airy, MD

Tonight at the Links of Challedon we had a packed house with our BIGGEST NIGHT ever!  Eight teams on the roster lead to an even better time than usual. With so many teams, of course we had a close game, but our winners were decided by the final question involving Olympic sports on TV.  A few teams were able to pull the connection with the release of the movie/book series “The Hunger Games”, giving them the correct answer of archery.  Here’s how the final standings played out:

First Place:  Planned Obsolescence

Second Place:  Greens in Regulation

Third Place:  Balls Out

Fish Market in Alexandria, VA

Tonight was a certified RAGER at Fish Market!  We had a big night of trivia alongside a huge night of sports!  We had NBA, MLB, NHL, and NFL all on in the same room!  Not to mention the packed house filled with trivia teams! We had about 15 teams last night, some veterans, some new teams. Though a few of the new teams were making some noise, it was the veterans that proved experience is what wins games. Last week we saw Rubber Sheets Club take down the win; they were back but PC Principals returned after a one-week hiatus, looking to snap any chances at a win streak.

Tonight’s Question of the Night came VERY early in the game as a Round 1 Question 2 “Trio of Trios” question slipped up a LOT of teams. Most everyone got Huey, Dewey, and Louie but failed to convert their answers into points when they didn’t know Manny, Moe, and Jack (Pep Boys founders) and Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. Only 4 teams getting wager points here; PC Principals picked up the 2 point bonus for all three of the Trios here!

Rubber Sheets Club started off strong tonight but still trailed to PC Principals at the half by a few points. PC Principals seemed nearly unstoppable, not slipping up at all during the upcoming rounds. They are truly a force to be reckoned with. Rubber Sheets kept close, trailed by only 3 points going into the final, but that was enough for PC to get the final correct and take the win. Grats, PC! Rubber Sheets finish in 2nd place, 3rd place to You’re Killin’ Me Smalls! A field of lots of newcomers but it was our veterans who took the top prizes! Guess everyone is gonna have to come out and play some more! Until next time! 😉

Guido’s in Frederick, MD

We had another great battle this week at Guido’s Speakeasy for trivia!  The teams were out and the competition was fierce!  In the last couple weeks, I’ve had a few teams that were in 1st place by the final question, roll the dice with a zero wager in at least 3 different venues.  Unfortunately, it has only bit people in the ass the last 3 or 4 times, and last Thursday was no exception!  It didn’t cost the team their 1st place spot, but the tie breaker question we needed to use after sure did!  Our 3rd place team had a rough start but a good second half, Spitters are Quitters!  Losing the tiebreaker and dropping down to 2nd was Friends of Dick Johnson, and fighting all game to tie it up after the final and moving up to 1st after the tie break was T.N.C.!!

Next weeks winners choice for the moment is “Triple 33-33-33: Bourbon, Whiskey or Scotch”, so study up and come join the party next Thursday night at Guido’s!!
