Happy Together with Monday Trivia!

Pour House Trivia ran Monday evening at 13 locations for a total of 153 teams.

FIRST ROUND:

We wasted no time getting to the night’s toughest bonus question:

  • Starring Kevin James, which film about a security guard topped the U.S. box office exactly 15 years ago?
  • Bonus: What is the first name of his love interest in this film?

Monday was the 15th anniversary of the film Paul Blart: Mall Cop, but 6.53% of the field tacked on two bonus points for naming Paul’s love interest, Amy Anderson. The rest of the round gave Three Clues about the word Java and the ticking stopwatch of the 60 Minutes opening sequence. This was the only round with no perfect scores.

SECOND ROUND:

Fictitious songs from TV shows were played in the audio question. The rest of the round featured topics such as Doctors Without Borders, the Axis of Evil (IranIraq, and North Korea), and the Legion of Boom, which carried the Seattle Seahawks defense in the 2010s. A game-high 18 teams earned all 36 points in the second round.

HALFTIME:

Atop the halftime sheet, teams had to name items that feature the word Who, while the bottom section was a 50/50: items were either The Price is Right games or Tony Award-winning plays. The average score was 13.7 points, while the only teams to earn all 20 points were Bet Smart (Cushwa) and Jellyfish Club (Aslin). We reached the halftime break with these top teams:

THIRD ROUND:

Questions in the third round handled subjects such as the Atari 2600, the Hailee Steinfeld film The Edge of Seventeen, and the Fleetwood Mac song Dreams. The last question of the round asked about a dual-capital country:

  • What are the two national capitals of Bolivia?

About 22% of teams named both La Paz and Sucre for bonus credit. Seven teams got through this round with perfect scores.

FOURTH ROUND:

Seven teams recognized Claressa Shields from her Olympic gold medal in boxing to get all six points in the 6-4-2. The only tough wagering opportunity on Monday came in the fourth round’s Over/Under, which set the line at 3:

  • 1)  The number of U.S. Presidents who passed away in office due to natural causes.
  • 2)  Of the ten U.S. states listed on a standard Monopoly board, the number that border the Atlantic Ocean.
  • 3)  The number of seasons in which home run king Barry Bonds hit more than 50 home runs.

In order, those are over (four Presidents), over (four states), and under (just one); slightly less than 40% of the field earned their wager while 9.8% received two bonus points. The round concluded with questions on enzymes and the 1948 presidential election which featured the Dixiecrat party. Twelve perfect scores were recorded in this round. A two-way tie for first topped the leaderboard after four rounds:

  • Demolition (DRP): 162
  • Lowered Expectations (Quincy’s): 162
  • Ten Thousand Dugongs (Ragtime): 161
  • Jerk and Thrive (Rockwell): 161
  • FOUR TEAMS TIED WITH 160 POINTS

FINAL QUESTION (34.64% success rate):

  • Which punctuation mark is derived from the Greek word for together?

A little over a third of Monday’s teams were successful on the final question by naming the hyphen. A trio of Perfect 21 teams played Monday’s game: Demolition (DRP), HFC (DRP), and Ten Thousand Dugongs (Ragtime). These were the evening’s top scores:
