Happy New Year from Pour House Trivia!
Before we get to the nightly recap, we’d like to thank all of our players for another wonderful year of Pour House Trivia. For the seventh straight year, PHT finished the year with more venues than the previous year, and we owe it all to our loyal teams. We’ll be expanding even more in 2017, so be on the lookout for some fabulous new places to play in the coming months. We held one game on New Year’s Day, and followed that up with our first full night of trivia on Monday, quizzing our regulars on baby names and the romantic relationships of the British royals. A rather difficult final question separated the best from the rest, so who topped our standings tonight?
MONDAY’S STATS AND FACTS (51 teams across seven venues):
–> Highest Overall Score: High School Prom (Spider Kelly’s) with 168
–> Highest Score after Round 4: High School Prom (Spider Kelly’s) with 168
–> Highest First Half Score: High School Prom (Spider Kelly’s) with 92
–> Perfect 21 (correct on all wagers and final): Del Ray Dummies (DRP), What Else Could It Be!? (Greene Turtle), High School Prom (Spider Kelly’s), The A Team (Il Forno), Stink Floyd (Il Forno)
–> The halftime page played to an average of 16.8, with 10% of our teams scoring a perfect 20.
–> Later in the game, we asked what proved to be one of our easiest 6-4-2 questions of the season, as most of our teams must be very familiar with bizzarely flavored soft drinks. Nearly 70% of the field scored six points by knowing that Jones Soda sells a turkey and gravy flavor.
MONDAY’S FINAL QUESTION (52.4% success rate):
–> A certain female solo artist and the male frontman for a current rock band both recorded their first respective #1 in the year 2007. They each share the same initials, and though they are spelled differently, both of their last names are pronounced exactly the same! Name BOTH of these musicians.

We had our first trivia game of 2017 on Sunday night, and you guys did not disappoint! We even had a new team join the ranks to give our regulars a run for their money! We began the game with our Winner’s Choice category of “The Hateful Eight”, and finished Round 1 with a few ad slogans. As usual, Round 2 began with our beloved audio category, and this time it was a few film clips! You guys powered through the round and ended on a high note with The Animal Kingdom. Then came the halftime puzzle pages and each and every one of you CRUSHED IT.
The scores at the half-way mark were pretty close, with Fisted Sister leading just ahead of Boh’s & Hoes and What Else Could It Be?! To kick off Round 3 we lead with a classic Three Clues / One Word question and ended it with some Unique Units of Measurement. Then came the 6-4-2 question where you all came prepared for some Disney Villain madness! Then on to Round 4 we went, beginning with Classic TV and Tripped our way out of the round and into the Final Question, a la Literary Men. So who took home the goods tonight? The standings looked like this:
First Place: Fisted Sister
Second Place: Boh’s & Hoes
Third Place: What Else Could It Be?!?!
Next week’s first category: “Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls”
You won’t see me for a couple weeks, but you’ll be in good hands with Sean! See ya on the flipside!

It’s the first night of trivia in 2017 here at DRP! With the new year starting Sunday, that means it was back to business as our teams once again vied for standings points as we fast approach the World Series of Trivia to be held later this month. Teams started out relatively even as they answered questions on “Friday the 13th” film franchise and Hemingway and soap operas. But the field started to separate as teams had to identify sporting events of 2016 from their sound clips. And from there the top teams began to distance themselves from the rest of the pack. At halftime, the halftime sheet brought the teams closer together again as teams did very well with it.
In Round 3, some of our teams had some wrong, but creative answers. One team wrote “Icarus” in response to a Christmas special titled “A Wish for Wings that Work”, which caused the host here to stop and laugh for a bit before the game could continue. The final question had half the teams identify the similarities between Adam Levine and Avril Lavigne. Thus, our first medal table of 2017 looked like this:
First Place: Del Ray Dummies
Second Place: Wingardium Mimosa
Third Place: Del Ray Posse
Next week’s first category: Pittsburgh Pirates. Yo-ho, yo-ho, a Pirates life for me! (Oh, perhaps that’s not the right song)
Until next time,

Greene Turtle in Hagerstown, MD
Happy New Year folks! We started out the first trivia game of the new year with a question about the great film ‘Planes, Trains, and Automobiles’. The question asked about the profession of a character from one of the film’s most iconic scenes, which was none other than the scene where the rental car agent receives about 18 F-bombs in about a minute. The audio question asked teams to identify big sports moments from 2016 and I was amused at how many teams thought the 100-meter dash clip was from a horse race (it was only a ten second clip, and the announcer says Bolt several times), but the Stanley Cup Finals and the March Madness finals were more well known.
Halftime asked teams to identify actors and actresses who used to be models based on pictures of them modeling, as well as matching current world leaders and their countries. The final question tonight about musicians was an interesting one, as only a few teams managed to get it. This led to third place going to The Nittany Lions while second place went to The Cobras and the win went to What Else Could It Be?!?!. Next week we start with a question about Super Bowl 50, because they want to remind us the Broncos are still Super Bowl champs… For now. I’ll see you all then!
UPDATE: There will be NO TRIVIA on January 9th at Greene Turtle. Chad will return on January 16th.

Happy 2017! Here we are back for a new year at Morgan Inn in Woodbine. The playoffs and World Series XIV are getting pretty close, so be sure to check out the website for all the details. Tonight, round one covered subjects ranging from cheesy dinners to a modern Stone Age family. We had an angelic question in round two followed up by an actor who has played God on more than one occasion, while round three featured liquor, the space race, and the NFL. Our final round had a hallucinogenic referenced as well as a member of the British royal family. This game was close, here are the results:
First Place: The Long D’s
Second Place: Team Morgan Inn
Third Place: River Benders
Next week’s first category: 1980s Pop Stars

We had a good battle for 1st at our Monday game at Hershey’s Restaurant, unfortunately for the team fighting to overtake the top spot, the team with 1st was also the only team to answer the final correctly! Finishing 3rd we had Dangerous Curves, taking a tough 2nd was 2017 Fan Club and pulling out the first win of the year was Smauglets!! They decided to go with “Gilligan’s Island” for next weeks winners choice so study up, and we’ll see you next Monday at Hershey’s!!

Uno Pizzeria in Frederick, MD
The first game of Pour House Trivia of 2017 is in the books for Uno Pizzeria and it was a close one! Our teams battled back and forth all night, edging each other out for the top spot over and over. One team realized a bit too late that you need something a bit stronger than Tylenol PM to treat HIV, while another team could only throw their hands up at the air when being told about Janelle Monae. No team was familiar with Opus the penguin, but everyone pulled out 6 points on the 6-4-2 tonight with Jones soda! Oh and one team has homework this week because they had no idea who Milla Jovovitch was. I mentioned Resident Evil, but I want them to watch a good movie so I pushed for Fifth Element instead…
When it was all said and done, the score at the end was terribly close, which meant correct answers on the final were key. Honorable Mention tonight to the Uno’s staff who kept whispering answers to me all night and for keeping me on my toes 😉
First place tonight went to Manischewitz and the Grapes of Wrath!
Second place tonight went to the Chippequa Park Rangers!
Good game tonight guys! Next week we’ll kick things off with a category about the comedy film “Earth Girls are Easy”, which Manischewitz was convinced I’d never have heard of. For shame! Study up, and we’ll see you next time!
Until then,
~ Ian

Happy New Year! Looks like some folks had the resolution to get out and be active/meet new people this year, as our regular wine lovers meet up group had to split into three teams tonight! Don’t forget, trivia is a great way to meet people while having fun and learning something!
Seven teams joined us tonight at Spider Kelly’s in Clarendon, and none of them had any trouble in round 1. Our second round tripped up a couple teams with a prescription drug question, but all in all scores were fairly close. The perennial powerhouse that is High School Prom took a big lead thanks their perfect score after half time. However, the end of round 3 saw that image of a perfect game go bye-bye when none of our teams could name the Buffalo Bills home stadium.
While virtually everyone was able to name the Jones brand soda in our 6-4-2 question, nobody fessed up to having actually tried the turkey and gravy flavor. I have now added these to my bucket list. In Round 4, everyone was a great sport and played along when I made them turn in their answers to the West Side Story question using jazz hands. When you’re a Jet, you’re a Jet all the way, folks! The final question was a nail-biter, as many teams took their time to answer, but when they did, most were able to name Adam Levine and Avril Lavigne to score the final points. Here are your winners:
First Place: High School Prom
Second Place: Helen Keller Birdwatching Society
Third Place: Kitten Mittens
Next week’s first category: Physics
Cheers!

We welcomed in the New Year with a great game of trivia tonight as we saw a double digit number of teams come out to join us for our first game of 2017! We saw lots of our usual crowd coming out tonight and a lot of new faces looking to try out trivia for the first time. The action got HOT really early as we saw a few questions in the first half that kicked a lot of teams hard including our drugs Q that only about half the teams converted (AZT, truly a thing of the past?).
The halftime page played a bit hard for some teams, with MC landing the only perfect score there. With that, Stink Floyd sat comfortably ahead but there was still a second half to play. Stink Floyd backed up a stellar first half with some good round 3 play, picking up Jackal on the two-point bonus and barely missing anything that round. A 6 point bonus on the 6-4-2 and the sole team to pick up 2 points with Jerome Robbins on the West Side Story Q helped Stink Floyd maintain that lead going into the final.
The A Team was comfortably in 2nd place but they would not have a shot if Stink Floyd got the final correct. Stink Floyd was winning all game, barely missing anything, and they took that lead and mentality into the final as they get it correct for the win tonight! Our first 2017 champions are Stink Floyd! I’m excited to see how this crowd does at the World Series at the end of the month! Second place to The A Team and 3rd place to Balls of Fire who jump into the top 3 as MC misses the final! That’s a wrap, back in a week all! Thanks!
