We had a nice turnout for our Memorial Day weekend edition of Pour House Trivia here at Belles’ Sports Bar, thanks again to all for joining me and the Belles’ crew for some trivia! We even had some teams we haven’t seen in a few weeks so welcome back. I can tell you it can get a little hard writing a near-nightly game recap and blog, so don’t expect this one to be my “magnum opus”. I know, a stretch, but I needed some creative way to get that trivia answer from the game into this body of work. Cue Neil Diamond at Fenway…
How about a mash up of these two:
We ended that first round with the author who created this classic movie monster…
Diving into round two, first off an audio clue featuring the theme to this hit TV drama…
We followed that up with Teddy Roosevelt’s visit to the Panama Canal construction site as well as some top winners in the Indianapolis 500. We also examined the world’s largest pinniped, what this one is up to is open to interpretation…
We then finished off round two with one of my favorite childhood films.
Third round, and off we go into some U.S. State geography and this single drive-thru state to get from Texas to Tennessee.
Geography continued on with the fourth most populous province in China and home to some tasty dishes.
Still in geography, but as part of a three clues/same word format…
Finally, still in geography, but as the city which inspired the name for the element Moscovium. (Trigger alert: Image of Russia below.)
The fourth and final round was a good one, starting off with Shakespeare favorite Moor, Othello. We moved on to an a+b=c format combining still living former U.S. Presidents with one hit from this two hit wonder band of the 90’s.
The round also contained questions regarding Misty May-Treanor, Gabby Douglas, and the late Princess Diana. All in all, I’d say this game was more fun than…
Here are the results:
First Place Uncle Jack
Second Place: Smarty Pants
Third Place: Demented and Sad But Social’
Don’t forget that next Saturday is the playoffs and pub crawl, so we’ll be back here on June 10th, during which our first category will be Triple 50/50: Cheers or Friends

Pretzel and Pizza Creations in Hagerstown, MD
It was nice to see how many teams were still in town to play some Pour House Trivia here at Pretzel & Pizza Creations on Saturday for Memorial Day Weekend! We started off strong with all teams crushing round one, but the close of the second round provided a few speed bumps, as questions concerning the elephant seal and Don Bluth (that was two separate questions) were answered correctly by only half the teams. Give Us Your Beer Money escaped the round by only missing their one-point wager. With an 18 on the halftime page, they topped the leaderboard at the break with an impressive 87 points.
After the puzzle page, our field began to separate, with our top three teams standing 13 points clear of the rest of the field. In fact, our top two teams, Give Us Your Beer Money and Off Beats, picked up 36 points each in the final round, which is a perfect score! Our final question tonight was difficult, as only two teams turned in the correct response.
Holding onto third place after the final was Yer A Quizzard, Harry! They played tough all game and walked out with second place, Off Beats!! Winning the final game of Season XV was our House Champions Give Us Your Beer Money! Do’t forget that we are OFF next week here because of the playoffs, but their winner’s choice category for the following Saturday is Captain America! I’d like to wish all my teams from here the BEST of luck this Saturday, and I’ll see everyone in two weeks back at Pretzel & Pizza Creations!!

THERE IS NO TRIVIA NEXT WEEK AT P&P – WE’LL RETURN ON JUNE 10th.

Captain Benders Tavern in Sharpsburg, MD
It’s good to be back at Captain Benders, even if it’s just for one night. I get to see all the old teams like Boh’s and Hoes and Fisted Sisiter! Two more teams, the Arrondissements of Ouagadougou and Give Me Your Beer Money showed up and we had a show down! I did notice that after the question about Auntie Anne’s Pretzels, there were several orders for the pretzel appetizer…
With such a high level of talent in the room, it was no surprise that we saw a neck-and-neck game all night. The Arrondissements of Ouagadougou lead by a slim margin after the first half. How slim? We had a two-way tie for second place just one point back! Things did not change in the third round, as right before the 6-4-2 question about Australia, the scores for our top three teams were 118 to 117 to 116. Then, Fisted Sister was the only team to score points on the 6-4-2 question and we had a new pack leader!
Fisted Sister held the lead throughout the final round, but there were only three points between first and third as we approached the final question! For the final, we asked what U.S. President was Senator Benjamin Wade going to replace, but didn’t (at the last minute). Two answers came in: Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson. Senator Wade was serving as President Pro Tempore of the U.S. Senate during the impeachment trial of Andrew Johnson, and would have become President if Johnson had not been acquitted by a single vote. With an incorrect answer, Give me Your Beer Money took third place. Wagering only three points, the Arrondissements of Ouagadougou gave the correct answer and held on to second. With the other correct answer of Johnson, Fisted Sister took gold from the Arrondissements of Ouagadougou!
Though Fisted Sister won tonight’s game, it was the Arrondissements of Ouagadougou who clinched the Season XV House Championship here at Captain Benders. Despite a four-month season, the House Championship was decided on the LAST question! It just goes to show that we’ve got some impressive trivia talent here. Good luck to all of these teams in the Season XV post-season.
Torie will return next week, and you’d better bush up on your cowboy movies, as our first category will be the John Wayne film “Rio Grande“. Thanks for playing!

Tilted Kilt in Frederick, MD
We closed out Season XV of Pour House Trivia at the Tilted Kilt on Sunday night, and our game turned into a tale of two halves, as a pair of teams respectively crushed it in the first and second half! Holding first place after the halftime puzzle page was graded was a team that was playing for the first time! They managed to sneak through a difficult second round that included tough questions on MLB Stadiums and U.S. Geography. Meanwhile, in last place was the Survivors, a seasoned veteran team that is USUALLY in first place at this time.
But it was another veteran that team rolled up their sleeves and were undoubtedly the BEST team in the second half by far! After the final question was answered, those two teams completely switched places from the first half! Finishing in third place was a young but spunky new team called the C.J.’s! Our second place finisher was also a first time team that showed “With age comes wisdom” and they were called The Old Guys!! Crushing the second half to pick up the 1st place victory was The Duchess!
Our winners chose John Wayne Movies for next week’s first category, so study up, GOOD LUCK to my teams in the playoffs on Saturday, and I’ll see everyone here next Sunday at Tilted Kilt!
