Happy birthday Ian! Pour House Trivia Monday Recap!
Pour House pub trivia‘s Monday brought you five games of live trivia, and we’d like to wish a very happy birthday to host Ian!
Sorry we didn’t get ya on the day of, buddy.
Check the recaps!
Del Ray Pizza – Alexandria, VA
The winner of our game of live trivia tonight down here at DRP in Alexandria spent much of the game in the cellar when it came to the scores, but held on through and with a correct final walked away with another win!
It took a “soupy” tiebreaker to settle out 2nd and 3rd. Here are the results after the dust settled:
High School Prom in 1st
HR PuffNStuff in 2nd
MSC in 3rd
Our first category for next week’s game will be CBS’ The Big Bang Theory!

Greene Turtle – Hagerstown, MD
So tonight once again my cardinal rule of trivia came up: if I don’t specifically ask for a person’s first name, don’t include it. The worst case scenario is that I ask you to be more specific. Unfortunately I have to mark answers as wrong if the first name isn’t right. We also had a pretty spoiler-heavy Game of Thrones question, and when I read it I made sure to warn everybody in the building. Game of Thrones is something that people tend to take pretty seriously, so I’m glad it ended up okay (Poor Joffrey).
In the end the night was great and rain-free until I was in my car leaving, which was nice. I even had a team make me a tiny origami boat out of one of their answer slips, which I thought was really cool, thanks Weeaboos! Coincidentally they were the only team to get the final question correct, but were a bit too far out to make an impact on the final standings. In third place tonight were the Turtleheads making a return visit to the Greene Turtle (at least during my tenure) and once again playing well. In second place with a crafty low wager were The Cobras, who managed to barely stay ahead. Our winners tonight didn’t even need to wager, but almost pulled a Cliff Clavin when they heard the final category. Cotton Candy can’t resist a good World Geography question! Either way, congrats on the well played victory, holding a lead from start to finish. Next week we start with the film The Outlaw Josey Wales, which I’ve never seen but has some very good reviews, so I guess it’s worth checking out! I’ll see you guys again next week!
Until next time,
-Chad
il Forno – Frederick, MD
Great night for live trivia tonight (minus all the raining and stuff)! A quick shout out to one of our most beloved hosts Ian Hartman who is celebrating his 26th birthday today! I heard he got some great love from his venue tonight, hope he had a good one!
Today is 4.20, a date that means more to some people than others. Something noteworthy came up in the game tonight that I didn’t even notice until Fries Before Guys pointed it out to me. The nursery rhyme question, with the 24 blackbirds, the rhyme starts “Four and twenty black birds baked in a pie…”. Four and twenty, perhaps in celebration of 4.20? The writing staff got a bit clever for that one, which I appreciated!
The game tonight was extreeeeeeemely close all the way up to the last second! MC held 3rd place going into the final with Latrilla and I’m with Sarah tied for 1st place. MC bets zero on the final, anticipating a challenging question. There hunch was correct. With all but one team turned in for their answer, I had zero correct responses. The only team who hadn’t submitted yet was Latrilla and the Mossy Banks. With a correct response, they would be the only team to get the final right and take down the win. And that is EXACTLY what they did! Congratulations to Latrilla & the Mossy Banks taking down the win tonight!!! MC takes 2nd with the defensive wager, leaving Sarah to take 3rd tonight. Good game all! World Series is coming up fast so bring your teams and start killin’ it guys! Time’s ticking! Mmkay well I’ll see you all next week for more great times, thanks a bunch people. Stay classy.
1st Place: Latrilla & the Mossy Banks
2nd Place: MC
3rd Place: I’m with Sarah
Next week’s category: Now, Voyager
Roast House Pub – Frederick, MD
Today, I’m going to forgo my usual recap style, for one very important reason: last night at the Roast House wasn’t any usual game of Pour House Pub Trivia, it was a party. Specifically, a party for me, as it was my birthday; I turned 26 yesterday!
Regular teams, traveling teams, and some teams returning from a leave of absence all made last night incredibly special for me. No one’s ever thrilled to work on their birthday, let alone work two jobs on
their birthday, but last night barely counted as work, as I had an absolute blast spending my birthday with you guys!
Thank you all so much for the well wishes, and the rousing chorus of Happy Birthday at half-time! And a special thank you to the team of Two Fingers Worth who not only brought me some festive balloons, but
also baked some absolutely delicious cookies for the entire bar! I think you’re gonna have to start bringing baked goods every week now 😉
As for the game itself, it was just as wild and wonderful as the atmosphere. Some tough questions led to some critical lead changes, and the two point bonuses were crucial! But the final proved to be too
difficult to overcome; with the entire bar missing it, the podium was pretty much set.
In third place tonight, Multiple Scorgasms! Good game guys, way to hang tough!
In second place tonight, returning after several weeks MIA, the Dewey Decimators! Way to go guys, and glad to have you back!
Taking it down tonight, Two Fingers Worth! I swear the cookies had nothing to do with it; they earned every last point! Congratulations guys, great game!
Next week we’ll start things off with the Eddie Murphy/Dan Akroyd film Trading Places! Study up! Thank you all again for making my birthday special 🙂 and we’ll see you guys next time!
Until then,
Ian
Spider Kelly’s – Arlington, VA
Another great night of trivia at Spider Kelly’s in Clarendon. It was a back-and-forth game all night, but when we had just two teams come up with the correct response on the final, it was the Rocket surgeons who secured their FIRST WIN of the season! Great job! Eleven is a Prime Number took second with Double Secret Probation in third. Next week begins with a question on Presidential Pets! ~ Matt
