Guess Who’s Coming to Wednesday Trivia?

As we close in on the holiday week, Wednesday night’s game of Pour House Trivia welcomed 111 teams across 14 venues:

FIRST ROUND:

Opening round topics from Wednesday’s game included the recent NHL decision to add an expansion franchise in Seattle and the TV series “The Wire”, but both of these topics included rather difficult bonus questions:

–> In which arena will this new NHL team play its home games?

–> What as the name of Idris Elba’s character on “The Wire”?

In each case, the correct answer percentage on these bonus questions landed just below 15%.  We closed the the round with a Three Clues question regarding this Disney character:

Cinderella

Though this question saw about one-third of the field earn bonus points, the early portion of the round resulted in just four teams earning a perfect score: Athletic Supporters (Barefoot Bernie’s), It’s Mueller Time (Quinn’s), Hamster Condiments (Memories), and Space Force Marching Band (Memories).

SECOND ROUND:

We “rocked” out on Wednesday’s audio question, as our teams were asked to identify the songs “Rock with You” by Michael Jackson, “Rock Your Body” by Justin Timberlake, and “Rock Around the Clock” by Bill Haley and His Comets.  After playing a little Last Word / First Word with the phrase “Little Richard III”, we asked our teams to name any two of the three countries which border Vietnam.  Though Thailand is certainly close, we were instead looking for these nations:

We closed the first half with a pair of patriotic questions regarding the bald eagle and President George H.W. Bush.  Nine teams ran the table in the second round by posting 36 points.

HALFTIME:

Celebrities with the initials “T. S.” were the focus of Wednesday’s halftime page, which yielded seven perfect scores and an overall average of 16.4 points.  These were your highest scoring Wednesday teams at the halftime break:

THIRD ROUND:

We traveled overseas once again to begin the third round, asking our teams to name either one of the two geographic entities which combined to form the modern-day nation of Tanzania.  Only six teams gave us both correct answers of Tanganyika and Zanzibar.  Later, we snacked on some skirt steak, visited the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, and looked at the trouble that this (former) NFL star now finds himself:

The opening bonus question prevented many of teams from securing a perfect score in the third round, but two teams rolled with the punches to rise above the rest of the field: Fan Club (The Tavern) and Kitten Mittens (Quinn’s) each posted 36 points in the third stanza.

FOURTH ROUND:

Wednesday’s final round opened with a question concerning this recent television series:

Bones

Other final round topics included blood plasma, the film “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner”, and words that begin with the letters “AE”: Aegean, Aerosmith, Aetna.  The final round let up on the field just a bit, as seven teams notched a perfect score of 36 points.  Here is your pre-final leaderboard from Wednesday night:

WEDNESDAY’S FINAL QUESTION (73.6% success rate):

–> Based on a beloved series of books, what television series show graced the cover of “TV Guide” for the first time on December 7, 1974?

Nearly three-quarters of our teams responded correctly with the NBC drama “Little House on the Prairie”.  Seven teams earned the Perfect 21 on Wednesday night by answering all wagering questions correctly.  These were your highest scoring Wednesday teams at the close of the game:
