German admirals and table tennis on a Monday night with Pour House Trivia!
Pour House pub trivia‘s Monday rocked you with 6 games of live trivia on the last Monday of 2014!
We had quite the year, adding a few new spots on Monday, and we can’t wait to see what 2015 holds!
Check out the recaps:
We came back from all that holiday cheer (and the resultant hangovers) to once again battle for the top spot with live trivia at Blue Sky Grill in New Market!
We had a lovely evening discussing that young Hollywood up-and-comer Maggie Smith (what a dame!), the way your insulin and glucagon raged that first time you saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, and the long period of peace and prosperity enjoyed by France under the leadership of President Pierre Derriere 😛
Newcomers Biting Coyotes ganked first prize from Holy Shirts & Pants in a knock-down, drag-out, fight to the finish! As a consolation prize, they’ve chosen a category that seems to be HSP’s bailiwick (I love that word): The 2002 UMD Terrapin Basketball Team! Come join us next week as we salute my alma mater (although I never went to a single game 😛 )
See ya next week!
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas time down here in Alexandria and thanks again for coming out to DRP for some Monday night live trivia!
High School Prom returned to the winner’s circle tonight, but it took a tiebreaker to settle 2nd and 3rd in this close game. Del Ray Dummies pulled out that Gold Medal tie for 2nd, and MSC for 3rd.
I hope you all have a safe and Happy New Year, and I’ll see you in 2015 for our first category, Motown.
Tonight I had the honor of hosting at the Green Turtle in Hagerstown, a place I’d never gotten to work before.
I can happily say that the game was a blast, and the place was packed with teams ready to answer some questions and have a good time! At halftime The Knights held a decent lead with a few teams close behind, but comets and epaulets had something to say about that, and unfortunately knocked them back.
Rising up to take the lead after The Knights tripped up was Cotton Candy, who never looked back, landed the final and, with some strategic wagering and calculation, took the narrow victory tonight! In second place were The Hairnts, a returning team operating under a new alias who also snagged the final. In third place was another veteran team, It’s Only Toothpaste.
I look forward to hopefully seeing you all again next week, when we start with the opening category of the novel Ready: Player One, as chosen by Cotton Candy! Until next time.
The holidays seemed to give people the URGE to play some trivia! We had a packed house for live trivia tonight! New faces, old faces, regular faces, we had it all! Despite the new faces, it seems our trivia veterans were the ones delivering tonight. I’m With Geoff, coming off of a win last week, was in pro form, leading the entire game to secure the win.
I was a bit upset because they SAID they were taking Erotic Fiction as their winner’s category if they won but they backed out at the last second! Rats, that would’ve been a fun one! Good win tonight though! 2nd place went to MC, another one of our veteran teams. 3rd place came down to a THREE WAY TIE that was decided by the Chinese Table Tennis Gold Medals.
Even though they were off by 15 medals, Chicken McThuggets was the closest and managed to sneak into 3rd place tonight! Tonight was a lot of fun, and those of you who were new, hopefully we see you again, and those who WEREN’T new, make sure to come back out next week and see us! Until then 😉
1st Place: I’m with Geoff
2nd Place: MC
3rd Place: Chicken McThuggets
Next week’s category: The Bee Gees
We had a wild and wonderful Post-Christmas/Pre-New Year’s game of Pour House Pub Trivia at the Roast House! House veterans, traveling point-seekers, and brand new teams all clashed in a fierce battle for the top spots tonight!
Highlights of the Night:
In “Best-Wrong-Answer-of-the-Night”: While Earl Grey does begin with two vowels, come on now. It’s most definitely an English tea, named after Earl Grey. And no, just because it’s a popular answer doesn’t make it any less wrong!
In “Oh-Sure-of-COURSE-That’s-the-Answer”: I’m surprised you all don’t know your German WWI Admirals, the host said without a hint of sarcasm. Seriously, who knows that??
Whenever we have to have a tiebreaker for one of the top spots its worth mentioning, because it so rarely happens, and always ticks some team off or another; The Dewey Decimators said that China combined for 4 Gold Table Tennis medals, Cranius Maximus said China had 6. Imagine the groans and calls of shenanigans when I told them China had earned 24 medals in almost as many years.
Once the tiebreaker was settled, the scoreboard looked like this:
In third place, the Dewey Decimators! Tough break guys, but a good game nonetheless!
In second place, winning the tiebreaker was a traveling team, Cranius Maximus! Welcome to the Roast House guys, and good game! Hopefully we’ll see you back next week!
Taking it down tonight, keeping their new streak alive, Multiple Scorgasms does it again! Congratulations on a well-earned win guys!
For their first round category next week, the Scorgasms have chosen the Winnipeg Jets! So study up on some Canadian hockey, and we’ll see you next time!
Another great night with some more new faces at Spider Kelly’s, as we snuck in one last game for 2014. The top three teams were quite familiar with the medal stand, as Eleven is a Prime Number made in two in a row with a wire-to-wire win, followed by Liquor? I Hardly Know Her in second and Magic Grits in third. We’ll begin 2015 with a question on World War II. See you then! ~ Matt
