Gandhi, Karaoke and Mike Trout on Wednesday with Pour House Pub Trivia!
Pour House pub trivia‘s Wednesday mixed in a little Gandhi, sang some tunes and swung the bat with Mike Trout!
Oh, and we also had ten great games of trivia – check em’ out, gang.
You can tell football season is just about to begin when everybody starts flipping out about Fantasy Football drafts, and today there was plenty of that going around. With some of the Applebee’s Staff asking my advice on draft strategies and even some teams wanting to talk all about it, the excitement and energy for football season is definitely building. I for one, can’t wait for it to start, especially since my Ravens play tomorrow! Enough about that though, we were all there to play a game of trivia, and that we did!
Tonight we started off with a question about Pittsburgh athletes, which was actually the source of a neat fact. Now, I’m no fan of any Pittsburgh sports team (the Pirates don’t bother me too much though) but I found it amazing that Hall of Fame quarterback Johnny Unitas was drafted by the Steelers, but they cut him in the preseason. Of course he went on to have an amazing 17 year career with the Colts, but wow. Funny how life works sometimes, eh? Also in the first round the theater quotes question was neat, I didn’t know where the quotes “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned” and “music has charm to soothe a savage breast” (I definitely read it as beast every time and didn’t even notice until I got a text, somehow) came from, and it was neat they came from the same play.
I liked the karaoke music question, as I always do. I just think those are fun and sometimes challenging ways to ask about songs. On the Mike Trout question I refused to use the lead-in from the previous question about mercury in some fish, as I figured he was famous enough that it wasn’t needed, and turns out I was very right; that Trout kid is a superstar. The halftime page today was brutal, especially the bottom half with all the questions relating to August. On the top half I enjoyed the Arthur reference, asking about his younger sister Dora Winifred Read, AKA D.W., that show was one of my favorites growing up.
In the third round everybody learned that race-walking is an Olympic sport, as everybody missed the longest footrace in Olympic Athletics by guessing way way too short of a distance. The final round I liked the actor question, talking about the crazy things some actors do to make their character believable. Heading into the final question the game was pretty close, and although one team held a huge lead at one time, that gap had been closed pretty quickly and it was anybody’s game. However, the final question about Tennessee being the last state to secede in the Civil War, and the first to rejoin after it ended, proved to be tough for a lot of teams. In actuality only two teams got the answer correct, the team that won and a team that was too far out to make any waves in the final standings (shout-out to Megatron on that one!).
After the final question, standings end up with third place going to the Carolina Reapers, nice job! Second place went to We’re Gonna Need A Bigger Boat, who couldn’t quite close the gap, although they got rolling late. Winning tonight, in an impressive wire-to-wire fashion, nice job to Dalek Dance Party, congrats! Next week we start with a question about the Assassin’s Creed video game franchise. I’ll see you all then!
Until next time,
Despite yours truly being terribly ill, we forged on through another exciting night of trivia! New teams and those who are just new to Bar Louie battled it out against our reigning champs. Would they take down a three-peat?
We learned all about Olympic distance running, Hill Street Blues and the lengths actors will go to to deliver memorable performances. As teams battled it out, our defending champs pulled away from the pack, leaving the battle for second and third a tight grouping.
In the end, Drinks Are On the House did manage the three-peat! They were ahead by enough going into the final that victory was already assured. Second place went to Quiz in My Pants, and third place was eked out – by a single point! – by Backdoor Conquistadors.
Drinks Are On the House are keeping with their theme, and have chosen “Hero Cars of The Fast and The Furious Franchise” as next week’s first category. Brush up on your Skyline knowledge, and I’ll see you next week!
Things started off innocent enough. Paper mache’ and confectioners’ sugar leading the question pack out of the gates. Gotta be honest, I am kinda in an arts and crafts-ey mood now because of it. Haven’t paper mache’d since elementary school I think and it might be time to brush up on them chops!
That game though! That game! Nail biting for days and days! Nine teams and one question separated first from last pretty much the entire night! I looked up close game and tonight popped up!
Tennessee brought it home though! And earned the W for a new composition for Blank Space! Great game y’all. Congrats to our Top 3 tonight! It was a tough one to bring home!
Thanks for playing tonight everyone…hope you had some fun on this very nice Wednesday night in Hagerstown, MD. We got a few weeks left of Summer Fling so I hope to see you next Wednesday night for some games! Our 1st category will be “Eponymous Body Parts,” courtesy of Blank Space 🙂
Have a great weekend and I will see you next week 🙂 DG
2nd Place: Stray Cats
3rd Place: Strangers have the Best CandyNext week’s category: Molecular Genetics
You just never know; you just never know what life will bring, and this evening at Fusion it turns out that it brought our last night at Fusion.
Stay tuned to our page for details on where we will be headed for our next home. If we can find out a way to make some money doing flash mob trivia, it’s on! Maybe I will look in to the top deck of the parking garage yet.
In our last night it was Wednesday who ruled the roost from start to finish, and they topped our pack. 2nd went to the all male League of Nerds, and finishing out our podium was Constantly Changing Team Name. Good game tonight all, and sit tight- we will have a place ASAP all picked out and primed for our Wednesday night shenanigans.
I had a great time filling in for Jon this week at Olney Tavern, and there was a nice crowd to welcome me to the bar. It was a close game throughout the first half between six teams, but the halftime page began to separate the field, as did a fierce third round. John Lithgow Fan Club came through relatively unscathed, and managed a slim lead heading into the final. The U.S. history question proved to be a tough one, as one team came up with the correct response on the final, but it was indeed JLFC that pulled it off! Great job! Team Gryffindor took second with Moving Forward in third. Next week, Jon will return and open with a Triple 50 / 50 question on Lennon or McCartney. Thanks again! ~ Matt
We had a great game of Pour House Trivia tonight at the Revolution
Bar! It’s not often here that we have house vets mixing it up with
both new teams and traveling ones!
Highlights of the Night:
In “More-Teams-than-Ever”: If you know anything about the Revolution
Bar, you’ll know how excited I was to see six teams here tonight! It
was a slugfest!
In “Troublesome-Halftimes”: When the average puzzle page is a 13, you
know its not an easy puzzle page! The teams had to fight for every
In “Vicious-Ladies”: Sally cost several teams some crucial last minute
points. Would she ruin anyone’s chances at the podium?
Honorable mention tonight goes to Mess and Jegg, who had a whole mess
of extra people there tonight.
In third place tonight, the new team of Green Machine!
In second place tonight, house vets E=MC Hammer!
In first place tonight, coming into the place like they owned it, the
Rubber Sheets Club!
Congratulations to all my teams tonight! Next week we’re gonna start
things off with a fever, with only one prescription: More Cowbell.
That’s your category next week: More Cowbell! Have fun studying, and
we’ll see you next time!
What a great night and even greater weather for some live trivia on the patio out here at Valley Grill Sports Bar in Middletown. These folks love themselves some trivia! Here are the results of the game:
Stupid Sexy Flanders in 1st
Drunk Savants in 2nd
A Time for a Change in 3rd
Our first category for next game is “things that could be an answer to a trivia question”. Which is pretty much everything.
