Fosbury Flops and MLS on Tuesday with Pour House Pub Trivia!
Pour House pub trivia‘s Tuesday brought you the best live trivia in Virginia and Maryland – including the Fosbury Flop (yeah, high jumping!) and MLS.
Check out the games!
Capitol City Brewing Company – Arlington, VA
The Christmas music was in the air at Capitol City Brewing Company in Shirlington Village, as our regular field was in the house for another night of trivia. Tonight, it was Show Me on the Doll that led the way all night, clinging to a small lead as we neared the final question. It was a tough one, as only two teams were able to come up with the correct response, but one of those was Show me On the Doll, and they took home their first win of the season! The Capitol City Goofballs had a tough second half, but by nailing the final they moved up five spots tot take second, with Menace to Sobriety holding on to third place. Next week we begin with a question on Christmas Horror Films! ~ Matt
Champion Billiards – Frederick, MD
I love it, I told Champions tonight that I was working on a new playlist and to give me any suggestions- got some good ones! Also had one member of Comfortably Dum give me a bunch of country artists while another player on the team handed me a sheet that just said no country. lol. I do love my tuesday nights.
So the Fosbury Flop apparently is not the newest dance craze, and you can talk about exotic cats without talking about adult entertainment! It’s exotic, not erotic! You dirty minded people! Speaking of dirty minds, I may need to watch Oceans 11 again now- such handsome men! We also learned two names of major league soccer teams, the Timbers and Crew- neither of which play in New Hampshire. What the hell else happens in New Hampshire other than that damn IMF meeting!? I was impressed with how many answer slips I got tonight that people had written out the Fibonacci sequence, writing got a little cramped before you made it to the first 3 digit number.
Speaking of cramped: our top 3 going in to the final were all separated by a single point! Could have been anyone’s game but a solid final humbled quite a few teams and we did some shifting and sliding going in to the final score reading. In 3rd we had a tiebreaker between They hate us cuz they anus, and Jungle Fever- I love it when you don’t give me the same numbers in the tiebreakers. It was Jungle Fever who took 3rd while 2nd place came in 2nd place! God I love it when that happens. They rose up through the ranks from 7th! 1st were no surprise, it was Wiser but Still Dead who came up from 3rd with the correct Shakespeare character. Nice game! Next week we will start with Owls. Who? We will! 😉

Cugini’s Restaurant – Poolesville, MD
We had a grand ol’ time with live trivia at Cugini’s Pizza in Poolesville! I swung in for Ronnie tonight, and what a great crowd! Despite a few typos on the puzzle page, it a was a fantastic night to trade some Q’s and A’s discuss Nicolas Cage’s worth as an actor 😛
You Talkin’ to Me? took our top spot tonight by just one point with Level 3 Booksellers in second and MoMo rounding out third. Next week’s winners’ choice category is the film White Christmas.
Thanks for havin’ me, and I’ll see you again soon!

Celebrity Bar and Grill, Hollywood Casino – Perryville, MD
We had a great finish to last night’s live trivia battle at Celebrity Bar & Grill. It even gave us a 2 team tie for 1st once we reached the final question!
The wagering/answering worked out the order for me so thankfully I didn’t need a tiebreaker, (whew) and this is how it ended: In 3rd place we had Jersey Shore! Fighting hard to come back and tie it but falling to the final was Bucks Minions! I was worried after holding 1st all game, they were gonna lose it after the final, but they held on to stay the champs for the week, American Outlaws!!
They went with The Beatles for next Tuesday’s winners choice, so study up and come join us for some fun next week at Celebrity Bar & Grill!!

Greene Turtle – Hagerstown, MD
Another amazing Maryland trivia night! At the half two teams were tied for first. By the end of the third round , the first three were all a point away from each other. The fourth round had a brutal rearrangement of scores. At the final, first and second were a point away and third was 13 points behind. But a stunning upset in the final brought That’s a Niner down to third, the Cobras down to second, and Cotton Candy rose from the ashes of third to take first place, as the only team to get the final correct.
Next week, the winner’s choice is My Cousin Vinny.
And welcome to the Rice Rice Baby’s newest team member, Bailey. We’re glad to have you guys back with your new little bundle of joy. Congrats!

Monkey La La – Frederick, MD
You can’t NOT have a good time after listening to “Devil Went Down to Georgia.” The tune is timeless baby!
Monkey La La Tuesday night trivia night was GAME ON for sure! We’ve been throwing down some great contests at our Tuesday trivia spot and last night was no difference! Like any good bar trivia set should have, there were some fun ones and there were some nasties hidden in there! Fibonacci and the Exotic kitty come to mind!
And our final tonight was a tough one but a great question! And 2 of our teams managed to grab it and secure their slot on the Top Board! And our 3 spot put the ole DEFENSE maneuver on the teams and locked up the 3-spot! Great game everyone – it was certainly fun to watch go down!
Next Tuesday we play some more. This time though, we kick off with “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” Until then my friends, have a great week and I will see you soon 🙂

Orioles Nest #331 – Frederick, MD
Tonight’s game featured several lead changes throughout the game, with the most notable of them coming due to the final question. We started out with a question about “Zoolander” which is one of my favorite movies, so that made me pretty happy. In the first round the question about cats ended up being pretty tough, with a few teams knowing that Persians were one of the most popular breeds in 2014 in terms of new registration, but nobody was able to get the exotic short-hair which is one of those cats that I definitely recognize but didn’t know the type of cat.
Heading into the second round we started with an audio question about classic country music, which ended up being about “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” by the Charlie Daniels Band. I was impressed by just how many teams knew the name PricewaterhouseCoopers, which is something I’ve never heard of before in my life. The ‘Cold Turkey’ question was possibly the fastest question in PHT history, I think that question took a total of 30 seconds.
Halftime tonight asked about Nicolas Cage films, as well as matching ‘American’ songs to the artists who recorded them. Nobody ended up getting all the films correct, although several teams got close. The third round started out with a math A+B=C question, asking about the total degrees in all the angles in a rhombus, as well as the first three digit number in the fibonacci sequence, which a few teams didn’t know about at all. The next question about the TV show “Empire” featured a bonus for basically guessing a random terminal medical disorder, because apparently the main character got misdiagnosed with ALS.
The MLS question talked about the Portland Timbers winning the championship, and featured one of the funniest and more irrelevant statements, as the question opened with “While you were watching the Patriots lose on Sunday…” In the final round I really liked the Weird Celebrities question as well as the Modern Rock question. Weird Celebrities asked about Shia LeBeouf who has done some strange things recently, most notably the movie marathon of all the films he’s been in. Modern Rock asked about System of a Down, which is a pretty awesome band.
Heading into the final question things were pretty close, and the final question in the category of Psychology caused a few more changes in the standings. The question talked about ‘Morbid Jealousy’ or ‘Delusional Jealousy’, saying it is commonly referred to by a nickname which refers to a certain fictional character. Turns out that disorder is also known as Othello syndrome. With that, third place tonight went to Smarty Pants who were in the lead heading into the final but got tripped up. Second place went to Fractured but Whole, who nailed the final and almost took the lead. Winning tonight, however, was Black Steel, who handed in the correct answer with a VERY unconfident “We’re probably wrong but oh well”. Either way, congrats! Next week we start with a question about a video game called Terraria, which I’ve never really heard of before. Good luck with that, I’ll see you all again next week!
Until next time,
-Chad
Quincy’s South – Rockville, MD
Tonight at Quincy’s I sure felt the love as the entire bar erupted in applause upon my sharing of the recent news. Turns out your favorite Pour House Bar Trivia host is gonna be on Jeopardy! in the near future. A great reaction made tonight extra special! That mood carried over into what was a blast of a trivia game, as we had a large field of teams duking it out for the top prizes!
Our question of the night tonight was a first rounder, for the 2nd night in a row! TV Guest Stars was a popular bonus category choice and I only had a couple teams pick up ANY points at all on this one. The alcoholic cousin of Elyse Keaton was in fact played by multi-Oscar winner Tom Hanks! Despite a miss by If We Lose the Terrorists Win, they vowed they’d come back and make it a game!
“Make it a game”, they did as they climbed from a low rank into the top 3 going into the final question! A hard fought round 3 and 4 was had but did they have enough to finish the job and claim the win? Well, the final question would decide it all. If you’re a team looking to climb into the lead from behind, a difficult question is EXACTLY what you’re looking for; you need teams to miss! Well, If We Lose got just that, as only 2 teams were able to convert their final response into points! Unfortunately, If We Lose was NOT one of them.
With only 2 teams getting the final, it would pay off handsomely to be one of those 2 teams. Unfortunately for the field, those two teams held the top 2 spots going into the final, so not much adjustment was had. 3rd Place tonight was If We Lose, finishing in the top 3 after being behind early. 2nd place tonight, a well fought match by Quiz in my Pants! And your winners tonight, Uncle Jack. There you have it folks, game, set, match! We’re back in 1 week with more trivia action. Come join us, won’t you? 😉
1st Place: Uncle Jack
2nd Place: Quiz in my Pants
3rd Place: If We Lose the Terrorists Win

Senor Tequila’s – Germantown, MD
Senor Tequilas, you continue to surprise me. Tonight’s game of Pour House Trivia was full of twists and turns, and made for a wild night!
Highlights of the Night:
In “Not-Sure-That-One-Counts”: Our winner’s choice category of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, ended up being about the Coneheads movie – not sure if that one counts, especially since only one team was able to pull the correct answer.
In “I-Warned-You!”: There’s a reason why I said the music is gonna stop abruptly, and then warned you about singing along! And someone still sang along! Come on guys!
In “Wrong-Psychological-Problem-Guys”: I give you guys full marks for at least picking a classical character for the Psychological final question tonight guys. Sadly though, if you’ve got an Oedipal complex, you got a whole different set of problems!
After two lead changes, culminating in a tie at the end, it was correct answers on the final that made the difference.
In third place tonight, winning a quick tiebreaker, the Hobgoblins!
In second place tonight, breaking off from their main team to take on the field as a duo, Sir Robin’s Merry Minstrels!
In first place tonight, managing to take it down even with two players going rogue, Heroes in a Half Shell!
Great game everyone! Sadly, I shall not be with you next week; Eric will be taking care of you, as you start the night off with a question about the original 151 Pokemon. Gen 1 all the way 😉 Have fun, and we’ll see you next time.
Until then,
Ian
Tilted Kilt – Frederick, MD
With the place decked out in festive lights, our teams got into the holiday spirit by embracing the time honored tradition… of scrambling for last-minute World Series points!! Our teams had a tough fight ahead of them, as they swapped positions on our leaderboard many times over the course of the night. But who would win?
We learned all about the IMF (Not the Impossible Mission Force, the International Monetary Fund), the guys from System of a Down and even a little something about cats.
As we reached the final, teams were split between two Shakespeare characters. But Othello would prove to be correct, and we had our top three. In third was Ignorance Is Bliss, followed by a late rally from Poovey Farms to put them in second. Taking down first for the second week was Duchess, who selected, Edgar Allen Poe as next week’s first category!
See you next week!
-Nick
Whole Foods – Ashburn, VA
A great Virginia trivia night here at Whole Foods as we had several of our regular teams come out for the crown this week. It was a back and forth night as the teams traded off first place but it was Jimmy’s Beard Scruff that took the gold tonight due to knowing that last question!
1st Jimmy’s Beard Scruff
2nd Taco Tuesday
3rd Mini Van Mafia
First category next week is The History of the NY Giants. See you then!
