Forty-Tue-sday with Pour House Pub Trivia?
Pour House pub trivia‘s Tuesday brought in one of my all-time favorite books: Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy!
As always, don’t panic and read on for more.
Capitol City Brewing Company – Arlington, VA
Our best teams are gearing up for the Summer finals next week, and so we had quite a finish at Capitol City Brewing Company in Shirlington. The juggernaut of Capital Hillbillies (playing tonight as ‘RG3 Strikes and You’re Out’)was going for six wins in a row! They were on their way to that sixth victory when they stalled out on the final question, leading Menace to Sobriety to steal the win! RG3 did take second, with Gus Polinski and the Kenosha Kickers once again taking third. Next week, our game begins with a question on the MTV Video Music Awards (2015 version). ~ Matt
Champion Billiards – Frederick, MD
Nacho Cheese! May not have been your self help book but it was definitely the rally cry for the second half of the game.
I do get a kick out of your We don’t know; we know we don’t know answers. Always entertaining at Champions, had some people jumping the gun but thankfully no one jumped for their cell phone after my somewhat impressive/terrifying threats to involve the police! Gotta keep it interesting, right?
What was interesting tonight was that final! Such a great classic movie and only two teams picked it up. It’s Thundercats who start out our top placings tonight with a 3rd, Wiser but still dead lost by a single toothpick! and had to take 2nd while the gentlemen of BTI took 1st- even if they did bobble the pop female question – Disappointed! Next week we start out with another Audio question- this time it will be Hall and Oates. And it better be a good one! No Maneater 😉

Cugini’s Restaurant – Poolesville, MD
Well it is not very often that we stump our Cugini’s players, and it is even more rare to do so on the final question!
Thanks again to you all for playing, here are the final results:
John Lithgow Fan Club in 1st
U Talking to Me? In 2nd
MoMo in 3rd
Don’t forget invites for the Summer Fling go out next week, our first category will be the TV show Hell on Wheels
~ Ronnie
Celebrity Bar and Grill, Hollywood Casino – Perryville, MD
After tonight’s game at Celebrity Bar and Grill, it’s pretty obvious who the Summer Fling house champion will be. I think this team hasn’t come in 1st only 3 times all summer!!
Tonight’s 3rd place winner was Gambling for Fun! 2nd place went to I’m Just Making This Up As I Go Along!! In 1st place, yet again, is a team that seems to always kick ASS: American Outlaws!!!
Try to have fun with their winner’s choice selection for next Tuesday, Olivia Newton John Songs!! So come by the Celebrity Bar & Grill next week for some fun!!!

Monkey La La – Frederick, MD
Summer Fling is rapidly approaching and we had ourselves a little late in the season throw down last night at La La! And I’m not gonna lie, we tossed in some nasties – with teeth! But ya know, the good thing is; is that I will not mispronounce “Schooner” ever again. That’s what I love about my bloodthirsty pronunciation lawyer friends – they care about me going into the world mispronouncing things. And I thank them for that 🙂 “SKOONER. SKOONER. SKOONER 🙂
Props to Atlas Drugged who put a wire to wire no wager on the final for the win game down last night – no easy feat, I don’t care who y’are. Top 3 Leaderboard looked like this:
Summer Fling points accrue through Sept. 13th. And the finals are Sept 19th. So we will see ya back at La La next Tuesday for some more fun and games! Next Tuesday we kick it off with some “Wes Craven Films” trivia. R.I.P. Mr. Craven.
Have a great week everyone! See you soon 🙂

Orioles Nest #331 – Frederick, MD
The start of a new month is always exciting. New things coming our way, especially since it’s September and you know me, I’ve been dying for football to come back. Of course it doesn’t help that the Orioles have become some hot garbage lately, and we had to deal with watching them get knocked around by the Rays while we played a good game of trivia.
Starting out was a question about football actually, since last week’s winners picked Denver Broncos History to start out the game. The first round went by smoothly except for the final question of three clues, one animal. According to “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” the smartest animal on the planet is the mouse, although some teams thought we were asking about the dolphin. They’re definitely smart, but weren’t quite mouse-level, although the ‘so long and thanks for all the fish’ scene is pretty memorable.
The second round had a question about hip hop music, and it was actually the audio question for the night which was fun. We asked about the song Ghetto Supastar by Pras, and some teams knew that the chorus sampled the duet ‘Islands in the Stream’ and was featured in the film Bulworth, which definitely surprised me. We also had an interesting homophone question, with a few teams figuring out the term we were referring to was plumb and the fruit, the plum. I liked the question about Rain Man with Raymond knowing exactly how many toothpicks were dropped on the ground somehow. I also had one team get the bonus, which was the exact number of toothpicks that were dropped on the ground.
Halftime was a page that I actually wrote, with teams having to identify the movie based on the dragon pictured, and then to match famous Americans to their historic nicknames. Most teams did really well on the matching part, but the dragons stumped a few teams, especially the two-headed dragon from Quest for Camelot. After halftime the first question in round three was about TV pilot episodes, mentioning the fact that the pilot for Star Trek didn’t feature Captain Kirk, but Captain Christopher Pike instead. The question about constellations was cool, talking about Aquilas, Corvus, and Cygnus, which are all types of birds, with each being an eagle, raven/crow, and swan respectively.
The final round started with a question about things with the word cheese in them, and I loved asking about Mayor McCheese, the most corrupt politician in McDonaldland. The self help book Who Moved My Cheese? also made an appearance, with some teams coming very very close to getting the title right, but only one or two teams got it. We also asked about two famous monster movie actors, Lon Chaney Jr. and Bela Lugosi, and luckily nobody realized I was playing Werewolves of London earlier, where they mention Lon Chaney and Lon Chaney Jr. walking with The Queen, doing the Werewolves of London, whatever that is. The pop music question about Fifth Harmony proved tough as well, and teams knew exactly what was happening when I started playing the song as time ran out, knowing the answer as the song started out saying ‘Give it to Me I’m WORTH IT’.
Heading into the final question it was still pretty much anybody’s game, but a difficult final question provided some interesting movement in the final standings. Third place went to Smarty Pants, who did a bit of strategic wagering on the final. Second place went to Black Steel who led the entire game until the very last question, sliding down one spot to second. Winning tonight’s game was the only team to get the final question about Film Sequels correct, congrats on yet another win to One Crow Short of a Murder, being the only team to get the final question correct. Nice job Crows! Next week we start with a question in the category of Sanford and Son, so go study up! I’ll see you all again next week!
Until next time,
-Chad
Tilted Kilt – Frederick, MD
As teams from all over the circuit descended on Tilted Kilt to rack up last-minute Summer Fling points, they were met headfirst with a tough set of questions from our clever writers. The teams proved more than up for the task, though it did separate the field more than usual.
We learned all about K2 (the mountain, not that OTHER thing…), the largest freshwater lakes in the world, and not one but TWO Star Trek questions! We also found out that Modern Pop is not a strong category for most of our teams, with Fifth Harmony claiming as many wrong answers as the Final Question!
Before the final, teams had closed rank, requiring some strategic betting. But did it pay off? With only one team pulling the final, it became a battle for second place. Taking down third place were the NoTalent Rummies. In second were travelling vets Fat Kids are Harder to Kidnap. Coming away with the W was none other than returning veteran team Dewey, Cheatum and Howe!! They’ve chosen Louis C.K. as next week’s first category, so it looks like a god weekend to watch some stand-up specials on Netflix.
See you next week,
-Nick
Whole Foods – Ashburn, VA
A crazy back and fourth game tonight as the players at whole foods watched me slowly lose my voice. I really got the crowd going by reenacting the famous V for Vedetta quote with my scraggly voice as well as singing some Les Miz! A well fought game by all teams but JMU alumi edged out other teams in the end!
1st JMU Alumi
2nd Mini Van Mafia
3rd Donald Trump Speech Writers
Opening category next week is Famous Baseball Players! See you then!

Quincy’s South – Rockville, MD
As the summer season winds down, it seems like it’s getting HOTTER and HOTTER here at Quincy’s! Lots of our veteran teams joining us tonight, but what was overly exciting was the number of new teams we had tonight! Not only did we have a big number of newcomers, but they were all SUPER COMPETITIVE, giving the regulars a STRONG run for their money!
In fact, 2 of our 3 top teams tonight were here for the first time! It was a fun game to watch unfold. The Big Fact Hunt, one of our regulars, came out strong, setting the tone and showing everyone who the bar favorites were! They led after one, led after 2, led after 3, and led to the very end of the end. Not far behind were the duo calling themselves – Well, I can’t remember the full name, we’ll just call them Hilary for now (it was some allusion to Hilary Clinton, I’ll look it up when I’m done here -there are more pressing orders to attend to!)
ANYWAY! The final question would decide A LOT tonight, as the scores were close, the game was heated, and prizes were there to be won… The Big Fact Hunt had the lead going on but, based on game theory betting, the optimal strategy to win in their position is to cover the bet of the team behind you if they happen to double up. They did just that, but it may have backfired a tad because they did not come up with a correct response on the final… In fact, we only had 1 team come up with a correct response. That team was Quiz in My pants, a new team. Being as they were the only ones to get the final, they leapt (why is Yahoo telling me I spelled “leapt” wrong? Twice… Humans – 1 Robots – 0) up in the standings, gaining about 20 points on the leading teams and that was all she wrote! Your winners tonight are Quiz in My Pants! Very good game! 2nd place did in fact go to The Big Fact Hunt who beat out Hilary on a tie breaker question! Well done. Well done. Hilary takes 3rd. We’re back in a week to wrap up the season! Join us then! Later!
