Forever (Brigham) Young at Wednesday Trivia…
The final Wednesday game of Season XVIII welcomed 119 teams across 14 venues:
FIRST ROUND:
We opened Wednesday’s game with questions concerning precious gems, Ellis Island, and this dog breed whose name comes last on an alphabetical list of current AKC breeds:
The opening round closed with a difficult three-part question in which each answer was a five-letter word beginning with the letter ‘B’. The third clue in this question proved to be a head-scratcher for most teams:
–> This word can refer to a pleasant shady place under trees or the name of the highest card in a game of Euchre.
Only 11% of our teams scored bonus points by giving us the correct answer of bower. Six teams posted a perfect first round score.
SECOND ROUND:
Wednesday’s audio question featured three songs that share their respective titles with Alfred Hitchcock films. We listened to “Notorious” by Duran Duran, “Vertigo” by U2, and “Psycho” by Post Malone. Next, we discussed this current animated TV series:
A second round question on Chinese history included the most difficult bonus question of the night. Across the board, only five teams knew that the Yuan Dynasty immediately preceded the Ming Dynasty. After closing the first half with questions about NFL star J.J. Watt and Neapolitan ice cream, only one team earned a perfect second round score: Ask Before You Reach Around Me (Belles’).
HALFTIME:
Puppets and famous quotations were the two featured topics on Wednesday’s halftime page. Overall, the average score reached 16.9 points, with seven teams recording a perfect score of 20 points. Here is Wednesday’s leaderboard at the halftime break:
- Ask Before You Reach Around Me (Belles’): 90
- It’s Mueller Time (Quinn’s): 90
- Half Nelsons (Beef ‘O’ Brady’s): 87
- Party on Wayne (The Tavern): 87
- SIX TEAMS TIED WITH 86 POINTS
THIRD ROUND:
Wednesday’s third round featured topics such as the Spanish doubloon, the Pacific Crest Trail, the Chainsmokers, and the modern artist responsible for this project:
Two teams ran the table in the third round: It’s Mueller Time (Quinn’s) and My Black Hole Just Exploded (Quinn’s).
FOURTH ROUND:
Wednesday’s final round opened with a look at this biographical film:
We continued by quizzing our teams about Swedish cities and the drink Yoo-Hoo, before offering up our nightly Three Clues question:
CLUE 1: This actress penned a 2009 book entitled “Safe at Home: Confessions of a Baseball Fanatic”.
CLUE 2: She is the founder of Touch, a sports-clothing line for women.
Only seven teams earned bonus points by forgoing the final clue and turning in the correct answer of Alyssa Milano. Three teams swept the final round with a score of 36 points: Shakeweight (Valley Grill), Irish Beer Mafia (Barefoot Bernie’s), and It’s Mueller Time (Quinn’s).
