Final playoff tuneup on Thursday with Pour House Pub Trivia!

Pour House pub trivia’s Thursday brought the final tuneup for the playoffs with six great games of live trivia!

Bunkers – Leesburg, Virginia

This game went down to the wire, and EVERY team had a chance at top prize here at Bunker in Leesburg! For one team, a strategic zero wager certainly panned out for a prize. Here are the results of tonight’s game, and best of luck at the playoffs!
Dewey, Cheatum, and Howe in 1st
Cranius Maximus in 2nd
Thoroughly Screwed in 3rd

Our first category for next week is Simpson’s character Ralph Wiggum!

Champion Billiards – Frederick, MD

All week I’ve been watching very close games go down to decide House Champion! And tonight at Champions capped my week with another, down to the wire – and then some – evening of live trivia!

Going into tonight’s contest we had 3 teams with their eye on the possible House Champion title! And it came down to the last question to decide that. Master Debaters had to place ahead of Vitrifiers by two point levels! And props to MD for doing all they could do! They won tonight’s game! BUT the Vitrifiers had to take 3rd and they were not having that. Not tonight – not on their watch!

But jeez y’all – what a great season of some pub trivia we had Champion Billiards! Thanks for playing Season 11 with us; certainly hope you all had fun! Congrats to our Top 3 in tonight’s finale and much love and grats to Vitrifiers for earning the House Champion title for Season 11.

That was certainly a great game with some ups and downs and tricks and traps that changed the game flow more than once. So excititng!

Good luck to everyone in this weekend’s playoff and Pub Crawl events!

Fish Market – Alexandria, Virginia

Tonight wrapped up the 11th Season of PHT! A huge thanks to all the teams that played and participated through the season and HUGE good luck to everyone participating in the post-season. The competition is gonna be super fierce so I really hope everything goes well! That being said, tonight’s game saw You’re Killing Me Smalls back after a short hiatus. They came out to prove something. Not sure what it was, but they came to prove it! They used the infamous bet your lowest wager on every question in the first half and managed to get them all right… When I approached them about it they simply said “Yeah we weren’t sure on anything tonight…” Maybe that’s the best strategy? Who knows! They dropped a 7 somewhere in the middle of this risky endeavor which set them back a bit but they were able to scrape their way into contention. Going into the final we had Welcome to You’re Doom, Two Birds One Stone, You’re Killing Me Smalls, and Oscar Meyer all in the top places; it seemed like anyone’s game. With under a 50% get rate on the final, the finish seemed pretty unexpected! 3rd place was a tie between Children of the 80’s and Whoever Dares Wins, who were behind but managed a correct response on the final to jump into the money spots! That tie breaker had to be settled and, unfortunately, only one of those 2 teams could walk away with a prize… That team tonight was Whoever Dares Wins! I guess they dared…. 2nd place went to Oscar Meyer, another one of the few to get the final correct. And the winners tonight, by 1 point, with a correct response (and a bit of an unorthodox strategy, but they insist it wasn’t intentional) were You’re Killing Me Smalls! Great game all! That wraps up the season but we are BACK for more trivia in 1 week from today, same time, same place, same game! Let’s do this! I’ll be there, won’t you? Until then, good bye, good night, and good luck!
1st Place: You’re Killing Me Smalls
2nd Place: Oscar Meyer
3rd Place: Whoever Dares Wins
Next week’s category: Gin n Juice Radio (Pandora station?)

Guido’s – Frederick, MD

Well, the last night of Season 11 at Guido’s Speakeasy went off without a hitch and even had an exciting ending also! The House Champion and playoff teams were actually already sorted out after last Thursdays game, but a fight to the finish for the last win of the season was fun to watch.

Holding on to 3rd place from round 3 and thru the final was Friends Of Dick Johnson! Going into the final question, I had 2 teams tied for 1st place. Our House Champ, and another team that already has their World Series invite, PLUS has actually won the last 3 games in a row at Guido’s! Both teams went with different wagers so no tie-breaker question would be needed, and once the dust settled, here’s what went down.. Dropping back for 2nd place was Not Quite White, which means that for a fourth time in a row, Tuna Noodle Casserole took the top spot for 1st!! (they sure picked a great time to get hot with the P.H.W.S just around the corner!)

Next Thursday’s game will be a great warm-up to stay fresh for June 7th’s World Series! So when you come out, “Climax” is the chosen winners choice category. (Mmmee-Yowzers!) Good luck to everyone in the playoffs on Saturday and I’m rooting for all my regulars to finish with that golden pass for the money game! Hope you can tell me all about it next Thursday night at Guido’s!!!

Lake Linganore Association – New Market, MD

Our third session of Pour House Trivia at Lake Linganore ended spectacularly tonight! We had a blast discussing Obama’s dog-walking technique, Martha Stewart making someone her prison wife (or as she likes to call it, “severe companion”), and the fact that English stand-up comic Jimmy Carr is responsible for the best heckler comeback lines of all time 🙂

Faking Bad stole first place by one point, becoming our House Champs (Tent Champs?) and earning a by to World Series 11. Moose & Squirrel took second with Sloppy Seconds in third. Thanks so much for a great season, I’ll see you all again on September 3!

– Eric 🙂

Main Street Oyster House -Bel Air, MD

So I made the trek out to Main St tonight, and I was rather glad I did!

A wonderful venue with some fun people and great food! You had me aughing at your first answers- cannibals are funny 😉 Thanks for hanging out with me, lord knows I’ll be back soon but it will be Natalie who gets to take over as your regular host. She’s a lucky woman. She’s also lucky in the fact that next week our winners, Anal bum Covers, have chosen reality tv shows as the first category. The trashier the better! 2nd went to the Jaguars, was fun to watch them duking it out with Anal bum but finally had to settle for 2nd after a Disney snafu. 3rd went to What the Shuck, who took first in the favorite team name category 😉

Have a good week, and Natalie will see you soon!

Quincy’s – Gaithersburg, Maryland

It was a great finish to Season XI at Quincy’s in Gaithersburg, as we PACKED THE HOUSE with 18 teams!  Of course, all of our top teams were there, including our house champions for the second season in a row: I Just Quizzed My Pants!  They clinched the title with a win last week, but they were back to try to cap off the season with two in a row.  The final was a tough one, and when only two teams came up with the correct response, it was Suck it Frosty with the win!  Second place went to Smella Nella, with Lowered Expectations in third.  We’ll be having trivia next week (NO WEEKS OFF!), so come on back for a game that begins with a question on the Vietnam War!  ~ Matt
