Don’t Lie To Us! You Love Monday Night Trivia!

Week 2 of Season XIV kicked off with another installment of Pour House Trivia Karaoke night!  The Doors, the Spice Girls, and OMI were all featured on tonight’s audio question.  After most of our teams cruised through three rounds, the final round put a hurting on the field, as numerous teams missed out on big points by confusing their souffle with their meringue.  One of tonight’s games featured Pour House Trivia’s best individual player beating an entire field of 11 teams with a SOLO VICTORY!  After it was all said and done, who were tonight’s shining teams?

MONDAY’S STATS AND FACTS (39 teams across four venues):

–> Highest Overall Score: The A Team (Il Forno) and Stink Floyd (Il Forno) with 168

–> Highest Score after Round 4: Kitten Mittens (Spider Kelly’s) and What Else Could It Be!? (Greene Turtle) with 161

–> Highest First Half Score: Wrecking Ball (Il Forno) with 92

–> Perfect 21 (correct on all wagers and final): Stink Floyd (Il Forno) and What Else Could It Be!? (Greene Turtle)

–> Only six teams overall scored six points on the 6-4-2 question, as they knew that the world’s smallest known vertebrate is a type of frog.

TONIGHT’S FINAL QUESTION (24.3% success rate):

–> Among works of fiction, which 1883 novel written by Carlo Collodi is considered to be the most translated work of all-time, as it has been translated into 280 languages?  (you’ll find the answer later in the blog)

DRP in Alexandria, VA

Here we are again at DRP in Alexandria for another fine Monday evening of PHT!  We had a packed house tonight with 15 teams jammed in for trivia.  This game was a close one with only a three-point gap separating our top three teams before the final question.  With one of the few correct responses on the final, the Johnny Unpleasants were able to hang on for a win!  I can tell you folks that you will be in MORE than capable hands with Chris, and I’ll be back for one more Monday next week.  Here are the final results:

First Place:  The Johnny Unpleasants

Second Place:  Eric & the Pie Tasters

Third Place:  HR Puff ‘n’ Stuff

Greene Turtle in Hagerstown, MD

We kicked things off for Season XIV a week late, thanks to last week’s Monday Night Football games being earlier than normal, and this game was interesting, with several lead changes throughout.  We started with a question about the TV show “Gotham”, which asked about an assassin that showed up in season one, who has a name shared with a type of snake, which was Copperhead.  I liked today’s audio question in karaoke music, mostly due to song selection.  It was fun hearing the instrumental versions of ‘Wannabe’ by The Spice Girls and ‘Light My Fire’ by The Doors.

Halftime asked teams to identify famous captains, as well as answering questions with two word answers that had the initials of ‘P.T.’.  In the second half we had a neat NFL question, where we learned that the first two MVPs both went to Jim Brown.  Tonight’s final question proved to be pretty tough, asking about European Literature.  The question asked about the most translated work of fiction of all time, written by Carlo Collodi; only one team knew it was “Pinocchio” we were talking about.

Congrats to our winners!

First Place: What Else Could It Be!?

Second Place:  The Cobras

Spider Kelly’s in Arlington, VA

Monday at Spider Kelly’s started the season off right with more teams than we’ve seen in the last couple weeks, including a return by some of our regulars.  Round 1 was a bit of a cake walk for our teams, but by Round 2 scores started to vary after a question regarding the new movie Storks knocked down our top two teams.  Now, I am not usually rooting for teams to get answers wrong, but I must say I was proud to see EVERY team miss the bonus on the Kim Kardashian question (what is the subtitle of her multi million dollar earning app?).  As Sweet Brown would say… “Ain’t nobody got time for that!”

Kitten Mittens and Jimmy’s in Vegas looked poised to take it all, but the final answer was not as plain as the nose on your face for most of our teams.  High School Prom and Walking Talking Stephen Hawking were the only teams to get it right, putting them in the top two spots.

First Place:  High School Prom

Second Place:  Walking Talking Stephen Hawking

Third Place:  Kitten Mittens

Il Forno Pizzeria in Frederick, MD

Packed house tonight at il Forno!  Lots of teams coming out to test the competition for the beginning of Season XIV! Stink Floyd played solo last week and took it down, but tonight it looked like it might be a bit tougher…  At half time we had some incredibly high scores; 2nd to last was at 83 points, the lead was at 92!  Less than 10 points separating the lead and the back of the pack… It was anyone’s game!  At the half it was Volcano Insurance, Piggy Doodles, and Wrecking Ball who were doing all the work!

Round 3 saw one of our hardest questions of the night, the Greek Mythology question.  About half of the teams picked up wager points but no one getting the two-point bonus.  Proved to be a crucial question, though teams were able to drop a 1 on it when they weren’t sure.  Round 4 saw a French Cuisine question that just about killed the whole field!  Lots of teams dropping their 9 on “Meringue”, when we were actually looking for “Souffle”.  Just shattered some teams spirits and changed up all the standings going into the final!

While Wrecking Ball was crushing for the first 3/4 of the game,  they fell back a bit in the 4th, leaving Chicken McThuggets in the lead and a 3-way tie between The A Team, Stink Floyd, and Volcano Insurance in 2nd place. It was still anyone’s game!  Final played tough tonight… 2 teams picking it up.  3rd place tonight would be Chicken McThuggets, who missed the final but bet 0 while in the lead.  First place tonight was a TIE between Stink Floyd and The A Team!

A tiebreaker would decide the winner tonight.  Closest to Jim Brown’s rushing total.  Stink Floyd said 12,000, while The A Team said 13,000.  The total was 12,321!  So close on BOTH ends but STINK FLOYD TAKES IT DOWN!  Two in a row for Stink Floyd to open the season.  Great game guys.  We’re back in 1 week.  See ya then!

First Place:  Stink Floyd

Second Place:  The A Team

Third Place:  Chicken McThuggets
