Dolph Lundgren and so much more courtesy of Pour House Pub Trivia Wednesday!

Pour House pub trivia‘s Wednesday is up to 11 great games of live trivia!

We’ve got you covered all over Maryland and Virginia, so check out all the great stuff that went down.

Applebees – Frederick, MD

Oh man, tonight we were just packed full of people, with both regular teams and some new ones. It was probably the busiest I’ve seen Applebee’s in awhile, but it was an absolute blast! The pub quiz went rather smoothly, with a hilarious 6-4-2 (George Clooney playing Stan’s gay dog on South Park is just so ridiculous) that a few teams were able to get, which definitely impressed me. We also found out that almost nobody knows how to spell Kazakhstan correctly when it came up in the world geography question. The set was rather light on sports, and the baseball question was actually pretty tough tonight, nobody knew the Padres made the World Series twice, and only a few teams remembered the Rangers did recently.

In the end the final question ended with a few teams knowing how the US Coast Guard was created. In third place was That’s What You Get For Thinking, who were doing very well up until the fourth round, but still managed to land third place. Our second place team showed up late last week and did well, but this time they showed what they could do when they arrived on time. Well done the Lollipop Guild (AKA Team Susie), you guys did great! Our winners tonight ended up with a large lead and were so excited they jumped the gun a bit and tried to wager on the final before I even gave the category. Congrats tonight go out to The Know Nothings on a game well played! They have decided to go with African Geography for the opening category, which is one of my favorite topics (yesterday my winners chose African Capitals, today African Geo :D). That should be fun, so time to go study, and hopefully I’ll see you all next week!

Until next time,
-Chad

Bar Louie – Rockville, MD

Another exciting, down to the wire game of live trivia at Bar Louie, and we have our first rivalry!

We learned all about our trivia wheelhouses, with teams dominating our film and sports questions, and the collectively shrugging at our automotive and world geography questions.
As the game built a full head of steam, two front-runners emerged: A team of newcomers to the trivia scene, and the trivia mainstays of Uncle Jack. As the questions got harder, the gap between players grew, and we arrived at our final question.
After a tough final, the die was cast. In third were previous Bar Louie winners Freudian Slips, who vowed to battle it out with uncle Jack for House Champion this season. In second was Uncle Jack, losing the battle but gaining ground in the war. And in first, trivia newcomers Bitches and Hoes took home the (imaginary) trophy.
The winners have selected An Actual State Capital Question as next week’s first category.

See you next week!

Barefoot Bernie’s – Hagerstown, MD

Tonight’s game of pub trivia inspired some wackiness and love! And that’s really what it’s all about no? Only at Bernies can we do $4.00 St. John’s Wort Shooters and Adderalaritas – with Zoloft around the rim! LOL! Fun Fun!

Thanks everyone for venturing out to Bernies tonight for some bar trivia Wednesday style! I was tucked into a different corner tonight and I actually liked it. I may try it again next week. The big table is a bit cumbersome so I might downsize my area a smidge and see how it feels.

I wasn’t sure how tonight’s game of live trivia was going to go down, to be honest. It was seriously up and down most of the night. Teams were whiffing bonuses, and so were others, so it all equaled up and made for a very good game all the way to the finish line! Answers of the Nights contenders are, in my humble opinion:
– Masters of the Universe – the film was soooo bad it needs a touch of love just because (not really though…)
– St. John’s Wort – see the above mentioned cocktail we came up with!
– Parcheesi – I remember playing this as a kid. I don’t recall if I liked it or not actually. But it is now on my to play again list

Many props to our Top 3 tonight! As I said, it was all over the place going into the final tonight and the final mixed it up even more! So hats off to:

And that brings us to next week’s Winner’s Choice category of Ready Player One. I actually started reading this book and I must say, it is amazing! If you play trivia, you need to read this book! If you like sci-fi, video games, Dungeons & Dragons, and/ or the 80s, you need to read this book! If you appreciate a unique, dystopic story, READ THIS BOOK! Spielberg just signed on to direct the upcoming film. So needless to say, I am very excited about this category for next Wednesday 🙂

Until then, have a wonderful weekend my friends!
And now you have the rest of the story.
Denny Grizzle – good day.

Today’s recap is brought to you by SAND: It’s everywhere (get used to it)! For those of you that get that reference, we will be friends forever. For those of you that didn’t, well, that’s fine, you just didn’t watch straight-to-video Disney films in the 90’s.

Any who, the live trivia game tonight! It was a thing. It happened. The QUESTION OF THE NIGHT I am dubbing as the World Geography. Apparently, this is a topic we need to study as a whole. Most teams not getting any points for the double border on China and Russia. I did have one team get all 3 though (grats to My Drinking Team has a Trivia Problem).

My Drinking Team actually led at half but took a turn for the worse in the 4th round there, leaving the lead to be usurped by My Favorite Team. My Favorite Team, riding a 3 game win streak, had a lot on the line tonight, but were able to come up with a correct response on the final to take down their 4th in a row, their 5th of the last 6th. We may have a juggernaut here at Bennigan’s!

Excited to see what the post-season has in store for them! 2nd place was decided by a tie breaker. Well, not just any tie breaker, a DOUBLE TIE BREAKER (the first one I’ve noticed as a host). The tie breaker was between the Gold Team and Axl’s Doghouse 2.0. J. Edger Hoover, born in 1895, BOTH TEAMS SAID 1900! So we went into a 2nd tie breaker. When was George Clooney born? Axl’s Doghouse was only a year off and they take 2nd tonight! 3rd to the Gold Team! Grats on the top 3! Everyone else, thanks for playing and we’ll be back next week!

1st Place: My Favorite Team
2nd Place: Axl’s Doghouse 2.0
3rd Place: Gold Team

The Cellar Door – Frederick, MD

JESUS! Jesus, Mary and Joseph – the gang was all there tonight as teams battled it out.

Every team is bring their A game, and their beer game apparently, the knowledge and beers were flyin’ tonight. Jesus, I was jealous watching you all throw them back. Our top 3 featured a revival of sorts, with some unexpected players shaking up the board throughout the game.

Once the mass was over it was Two Live Clue Two in a Goliath vs Goliath fight with Big Bourbon Ballers for second. Thanks to each of you giving me the same wrong year, things got interesting. When the second tiebreaker was over it was Big Bourbon in 3rd, 2 live clue 2 in second and Constantly Changing Team Name clinched it for the second week in a row! Nicely done!

They are taking us out on the water for a first category of the US Navy.

Memories Charcoal House – Mount Airy, MD

A LIVELY night it was at Memories Charcoal House in Mt. Airy!! There was so much energy in the room and so many teams hungry for the win!

After a knock-down, drag-out fight to the finish, the triumphant third place prize holders were: Half a Brain! Ahead of them after an EPIC tie-breaker were the Experienced Virgins! But the true Cinderella story is of our victors, first-time first-placers and dedicated trivia enthusiasts, SPECIAL K took home the top prize!

Their choice of first category next week? BEER!!! Drink…er…study up, and I’ll see you next week!! -Torie

The Olney Tavern – Olney, MD

What a nice showing of teams tonight at The Tavern for pub trivia! A couple teams that haven’t been in for a while were out tonight, plus a new visiting team that I hope will be back again soon!

Tonight’s 1st place team com-PLETE-ly ran away with it, (they were up on 2nd place by 18 pts going into the final question) there was a good battle for 2nd and 3rd tonight! It came down to how teams wagered on the final, and unfortunately, dropping to 3rd tonight was I Just Quizzed In My Pants! Moving up to the 2nd spot was Olney the Lonely!! Dominating tonight’s game and getting back to the winners circle was Team Gryffindor!!

In true Gryffindo” spirit, they picked Defense Against the Dark Arts Professors from Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry.

That has to be the longest category name of all time! I’ll see everyone back at The Tavern next Wednesday night!!

Putter’s Pub – New Market, MD

We had a blast tonight with live trivia at Putters’ Pub in New Market! We discussed many things including the latest exercise craze known as the Abdominal Snowman, Dolph Lundgren starring in the thrilling summer blockbuster John Batman vs. Godzilla, and whether Jesus brought Lazarus back from the dead or back from Canada.

Strange Winers and 19th Hole both had ups and down throughout the evening but the Winers clinched it with a correct final answer. 19th Hole nabbed second with Come At Me Bro in third.

Come check us out next week where the winners’ choice category will be sure to please the nerd crowd – Eric is the Original Cast of Star Trek! You should boldly go to trivia at Putters’ Pub next week!

Revolution Bar – Fairfax, Virginia

The Revolution Bar is never predictable, and tonight was no exception, with another rousing game of Pour House Pub Trivia in the books!

Highlights of the Night:

In “Kids-These-Days”: Desperado comes on and only one team can get Don Henley, Antonio Banderas, and “Queen of Diamonds”?? Dang kids and your bell bottoms and your rap music!

In “Listen-Boys-And-Girls”: Branch. I said branch at least 4 times, and still teams didn’t give me a branch of the US Government. Come on guys!

In “Unintentional-Misdirection”: It is only after the fact do I realize that a clue mentioning a rap artist featured in the The Fast and the Furious, would point towards Ludacris, not Ja Rule. Granted, he wasn’t in the films until 2 and then 4 onward, but he would definitely be where the mind would go first.

The final was a doozy, and it saw things shake up at the last moment.

In third place, Gern Blanston, as a solo! Welcome back Blanston, and good job!

In second place, Mess and Jegg! Way to hang tough!

In first place, E=MC Hammer! Congratulations guys, well done!

Next week’s round one question one will be Musicians that Died in Plane Crashes! A bit specific, but at least you can study!

Until then,
Ian
