Pour House pub trivia‘s Monday played some football, covered a few tunes and capped it all off with some Dr. Seuss hangs!

Check out how all that stuff went down, y’all.

Greene Turtle – Hagerstown, MD

We’re getting close to the end of our summer season. Next week is the end of August, football is in the air, and so is our Summer Fling finale. Meanwhile there are still plenty of exciting games of trivia, and tonight’s game at the Greene Turtle was no exception. Starting out with a question about the WWF in the 80’s and 90’s had us asking about the very first Wrestlemania, where Hulk Hogan and Mr. T teamed up to kick some serious butt, which must have been so much fun to see. We also had an audio question tonight in one of my favorite categories: cover songs. We got to hear some cool cover versions of Cher’s ‘Believe’, The Eagles’ ‘Hotel California’, and Soundgarden’s ‘Black Hole Sun’, all of which were cool and unique. The baseball question, asking about the two times that the World Series was NOT played, led to some interesting guessing, as every team guessed that 1944 was a year they cancelled, I suppose due to WWII happening at the time.

Halftime was a bit different today, but only because the halftime pages were worth 22 points today instead of the usual 20, which one team managed to capitalize on, getting all 22 answers correct, showing they may know a bit too much about SNL. My favorite on the page has to be Will Ferrell as Harry Caray, it’s just absolutely hilarious. Heading into the second half we started out asking about ZZ Top, the guys with the best beards in rock n roll. The NFL teams question talked about how the Patriots managed to miss the playoffs with an 11-5 record after losing Tom Brady to a hit by renowned Patriot killer, Bernard Karmell Pollard. He might just be one of the most hated men in Boston, right up there with Roger Goodell lately. Finishing round three was a question about Monopoly, asking about the orange section of properties.

The fourth round provided a bit of turmoil for some teams, and ended up with one team holding an insurmountable lead heading into the final question. The final didn’t really change any standings either, as most teams managed to get it right and get it quite fast. Third place in tonight’s game went to That’s A Niner, and second place went to Cotton Candy. Winning tonight with a repeat is Danny Glover, playing a solid game from beginning to end. Nice work everybody! Next week we start with a question about M*A*S*H; the TV show, not the movie. So I will see you all again next week!

Until next time,

il Forno – Frederick, MD

As the summer season comes to a close, it’s evident that the competition at this finals tournament will be fierce. Going into the final tonight, only 15 points separated first and last place. Quite a tight game! The question of the night was the urinal question. Not a metaphor, guys. The answer was “urinal”. Who would have thought its inception was aimed at increasing work productivity? I thought it was just some bored guy looking for a new way to invent “The Toilet”. Either way, everyone missed it, but it was mostly a respected question (except for a “What the hell is a FEMALE urinal” fiasco… #urinella).

Going into the final, Off in Public held the lead, with Latrilla in 2nd and Piggy Doodles in 3rd. Crazy wagers and such made for an exciting finish! Here’s how it ended up. 3rd place Chicken McThuggets, 2nd place was Off in Public with a zero wager to hold a top 3 spot, and your winners tonight are LATRILLA AND THE MOSSY BANKS! Great game guys. See ya in a week!

1st Place: Latrilla & the Mossy Banks
2nd Place: Off in Public
3rd Place: Chicken McThuggets

Next week: Orphan Black

Schroyer’s Tavern, Maryland National Golf Club – Middletown, MD

Monday night’s game at Schroyer’s Tavern looked like it was going to have an amazing comeback finish to it. The team that won had a pretty big lead after the puzzle page but struggled in the 3rd round, so their 10 point lead was only a 1 point lead after the 6-4-2 question.

Unfortunately, every team BUT the leader struggled in round four, so this was how it ended: In 3rd place we had The Winners! With a tough 2nd place finish it was Areola Grande! And regaining their lead by 11 points and taking 1st was One Crow Short of a Murder!! Their pick for next week’s winner’s choice should be EXTREMELY exciting to see, it’s called “The 30 Second Free For All.”

It will be a completely random category, but for the first time in Pour House history you will be allowed to use your cell phone, BUT, you will only have 30 seconds before your answer has to be turned in! (Hope you have 4G!) So stop by for the pandemonium next Monday at Schroyer’s Tavern!!

Roast House Pub – Frederick, MD

Tonight was a relatively quiet night of Pour House Trivia at the Roast
House Pub, which isn’t saying much for my rowdy teams!

Highlights of the Night:

In “Groovy-Tunes-Dude”:The cover songs question had everyone rocking
out – and scratching their heads on the last one. Interesting takes on
those songs.

In “Pardon-My-French”: Only a few teams managed to pull Maine for this
question, Louisiana much more heavily favored.

In “Softball-Finals”: No matter how I read “What Pet Should I Get”
it’s always going to sound like it’s supposed to rhyme. And who else
is going to come to mind with a rhyming title than Dr. Seuss.
In third place tonight, coming from behind after struggling early, as
a solo no less, the John Lithgow Fan Club!

In second place tonight, as a duo, and making sure to stay and get
their prize this time, the Moops!

In first place tonight, leading the whole night and never looking
back, the Southside Swingers!
Congrats to all my teams tonight on a great game of trivia! Next week
we’ll get the ball rolling with a question about the Gilmore Girls.
Should be fun!

Until then,

Spider Kelly’s – Arlington, VA

We had a wire-to-wire winner at Spider Kelly’s in Clarendon tonight, as Jimmy’s in Vegas played a stellar game and rolled to another victory.  Ding!  Fries are Done made it extremely close by the end of round four, but fell short by just one point and had to settle for second.  Swedish Police on Vacation took third.  Next week, we begin with a question on Circumcision!  Seriously…. ~ Matt
