Costumes Were Key at Tuesday Night Trivia…
Tuesday night is in the books here at Pour House Trivia, and as we inch closer to Halloween next week, we’ve snuck in a few Halloween-themed questions into our sets. One of those horror-themed question was downright scary, as it was our most difficult question of the night. Let’s see who took down our top prizes!
TUESDAY’S STATS AND FACTS (87 teams across 12 venues):
–> Highest Overall Score: Screaming Death Monkey (Quincy’s South) with 176
–> Highest Score after Round 4: Show Me On the Doll (Capitol City Brewing) with 169
–> Highest First Half Score: Show Me On the Doll (Capitol City Brewing) with 94
–> Perfect 21 (correct on all wagers and final): Show Me On the Doll (Capitol City Brewing), Stink Floyd (Monkey La La), Black Steel (Orioles Nest), Screaming Death Monkey (Quincy’s South)
–> We snuck in an extra two points on the halftime sheet, so a perfect score (achieved by six different teams) was actually 22 points tonight! Great job recognizing actors in costumes! Our average score was 16.8.
–> About 15% of our teams took home six points on the 6-4-2, by knowing that the next Secretary-General of the United Nations is a native of Portugal.
–> Our toughest standard question of the night was featured in Round 3, with only 22% of our teams scoring points with this nugget:
– This author is certainly no “Pinhead”. In fact, in the 1980s Stephen King said this man was the “…future of (the) horror” genre. For your wager, name this English writer of the “Books of Blood” series who also wrote and produced the film “Candyman”.
TONIGHT’S FINAL QUESTION (72.4% success rate):
–> Commonly known by a three-word name, which independent nation has the longest name that is spelled completely with alternating vowels and consonants? (you’ll find the answer later in this blog)
Capitol City Brewing in Arlington, VA
Capitol City Brewing was the place to be last night, with thirteen teams battling it out across a minefield of Scottish mountains, electric cars, and Gwyneth Paltrow’s fat suit. More than a couple newcomer squads made their Cap City debut, which is always exciting, one of which beat (almost) all our regulars to land in second place overall! Unfortunately, their team name forced this Astros fan to re-live the agony of the 2005 World Series…
The powerhouse team of “Show Me on the Doll” was an absolute juggernaut, starting with a perfect Round 1 (along with “Hillary Did Harambe”), posting a perfect 22/22 on the picture round, and never making a major mistake. This makes it three wins in four weeks – who will play David to this Goliath? Find out next week at Cap City! Your winner’s circle:
First Place: Show Me on the Doll
Second Place: Go White Sox
Third Place: Some Bad Harambes (a.k.a. Hillary Did Harambe)
Next week’s first category: Classic Universal Movie Monsters

Champion Billiards in Frederick, MD
These are the Tuesday nights I long for! The bar was quiet but the game was restless! My regulars were out in force and we ruled the bar, you could hear a pin drop when I asked a question. The game was good, almost as good as this Cubs/Indians faceoff.. Any time there was an OOOh! we would have to pause the game and see what we missed. Gotta love working in a sports bar. Baseball AND trivia, it doesn’t get much better. Well fierce competition, good food and cold beer is here too.
Speaking of fierce competition- Comfortably Dum! The boys were certainly back in town tonight! They took the lead at the first round and just were not letting go for anything. And we’re all out of bubblegum gave it the ol’ college try but came up short and had to take 2nd. Rounding out the top 3 was Charlie and the Vodka Factory – they are no strangers to the podium, that’s for sure. You can never rule out Charlie… See you next week!
Next week’s first category: Triple 50/50 (Hall and Oates or “Star Wars”)

Cugini’s Restaurant in Poolesville, MD
Cugini’s was THE place to be for some Pour House Trivia action as we had a one heck of a game here! The final scores were only 4 points apart plus we had a three-way tie for 3rd that we needed to tighten up. Don’t forget to check out the Halloween theme game this coming Saturday. Here are the results:
First Place: Drunk and Disorderly
Second Place: MoMo
Third Place: Never Mind
Next week’s first category: “Westworld”

Orioles Nest in Frederick, MD
Tonight we got ready for Halloween, especially with the halftime page today, which asked for movies starring costumed actors, as well as the actors themselves. Some of those were really bizarre looking, such as Billy Crystal in ‘The Princess Bride’. Turns out the final was a bit of a tough one, as wordplay questions can always be tough because of the timed aspect.
The final asked about the three word country name which is the longest name spelled entirely with alternating consonants and vowels. Half the teams managed to get to the answer of United Arab Emirates, and things moved around a bit. Third place was Ignorance is Bliss, second place was Vandelay Industries, and tonight’s winner is Black Steel! Next week we start with an audio question about 90’s one hit wonders, so study up!
Until next time,

Tilted Kilt in Frederick, MD
The streak… has ended. Despite the best efforts of Poovey Farms, they weren’t able to extend their undefeated streak another week. With some tough questions and stumpers for bonuses, the field was very close headed into the final. With most teams grabbing the final, we had our Top 3.
First Place: Hookers and Blackjack
Second Place: Poovey Farms
Third Place: Book Club Babes
Next week’s first category: Advanced Dungeons and Dragons (AD&D)
The crew from Hookers and Blackjack record their first win!, Study up and I’ll see you next week!

Senor Tequila’s in Germantown, MD
Another Tuesday night, another wild and wonderful game of Pour House Trivia here inside Senor Tequilas!
Highlights of the Night:
In “Insult-To-Injury”: Last week we started the game off with a category on Judaism due to the heritage of a player on Beer Pressure. So when they were the only team to not correctly identify Judaism as the religion that Sukkot pertains to, I just couldn’t help myself but give them a good ribbing 😉 Tsk tsk tsk fellas!
In “Total-Obliteration”: The Clive Barker saw as many 1 wagers as the WC World Chess Champions question, but with none of the correct guesses, earning the “Hardest Question of the Set” honors; I had no idea he had anything to do with Pinhead, I only know him from a very weird book series I read when I was younger. Looking back on it, it now makes a lot more sense considering how twisted he seems to be. No one else was familiar either, so we commiserated in our lack of knowledge together.
In “Runaway-Underdogs?”: The running gag here at Tequilas is Axl’s Doghouse being less than a powerhouse; they’re a fine trivia team, but the wheels have a common tendency of coming off late in the game. So when we found ourselves with the house underdogs taking a 20 point lead going into the final question, all we could do was applaud and request HGH testing kits be rolled out. 😉 Seriously though, a strong showing tonight!
When all was said and done, the final didn’t affect much, due to strategic wagering.
In third place tonight, the Fan Club!
In second place tonight, Beer Pressure!
In first place tonight, as expected, Axl’s Doghouse!
Great game tonight guys, and a fun one too! Not satisfied with how boring the World Chess Champions question was, Axl’s Doghouse has opted to start next week with a U.S. Airports question. Study up, if you can keep your eyes open, and we’ll see you next time!
Until then,

A rowdy, rambunctious full of regulars — and another new team (congratulations); unfortunately they had to dip out, because Little Miss Perfect had had enough. Next week, bring her again, load her up with ice-cream and watch as she amazes you with out-of-this wold arcane knowledge of Caillou, Bikini Bottom and Barney the pot-smoking uncle that has wayyyy overstayed his welcome … I digress…
Lots of fun tonight, with some serious — no, SERIOUS — competition. Perhaps my enjoinders last week met with some measure of success: at the conclusion of the fifth round, only two remained in contention, and the omnipresent nose-swatter Milwaukee Beers were two points behind Barflies. Upon reading the fateful answer and hearing Uecker barking out “Its a bold move, Cotton”, I announced the top: in third fell Spanish Inquizition; the struck-by-lightning second place finishers were the Barflies; and in first, once more, #CrookedMilwaukeeBeers
Until next weekend, my pretties:

Zepheira Sports Bar in Hagerstown, MD
We had a good team turnout at our Tuesday night game at Zepheira Sports Bar! Many thanks to some friends and teams who decided to stop in for a game, it made my night!! There was a good battle between the top 4 teams fighting for the top spots, in fact, there was a 3-way tie for 2nd place once we got to the final question! Fortunately for me, each team wagered a different number than the other so there was no need for a tie breaker question! Finishing 3rd was Sanford & Son, taking 2nd was the Avengers, and stopping in to visit and only winning THE GAME with 1st was Give Us Your Beer Money!! The picked the cartoon “The Boondocks” for next Tuesdays winners choice category, so study up and join us next week for a good time at Zepheira Sports Bar!!

A Pour House First! (for me anyways..) … We had a FOUR WAY TIE going into the second half with FOUR teams sporting an 88 point game! Crazy, right? Not even perfect scores, and not all missing the same thing. Just fell into place like that. Even round 3 didn’t have much to say about it BUT we did have a clear top placement after that one. Three teams tied in 2nd after round 3 but Screaming Death Monkey, last week’s winners, led by three at a score of 124 going into the 6-4-2.
The 6 point clue was gotten by two teams, Big Fact Hunt and We Drink and We Know Things, so they closed in on the lead just a bit. Round 4 had some toughies which helped separate the scores. For the first time in the game, we had NO TIES; it only took until we had the final question left!
Final played a bit easy BUT a miss from one of our top 3 did let a few teams sneak into the money. Big Fact Hunt dropped from 2nd place to 4th with a miss so your top 3 tonight are 3rd: Car Ram Rod. 2nd: Uncle Jack. Your winners, 2 in a row for Screaming Death Monkey! They for real! Back in a week, see ya then!
Next week’s first category: “Dodgeball”
Stone’s Cove in Bel Air, MD
They say that if you do anything three times its a streak and tonight 11 years was finally on a winning streak. Three weeks in a row at #1. Close behind him was The French Fry Thieves in 2nd and Team Nasty in 3rd. Stones Cove is the place to be on Tuesday nights when there is trivia to play!
