COPS and a cadre of trivia on Tuesday with Pour House Pub Trivia!

Pour House pub trivia‘s Tuesday knew all about those bad boys and what they’re gonna do – we had a little bit of COPS and a whole lot of live trivia in Virginia and Maryland!

Check out how it all went down, gang.

Capitol City Brewing Company – Arlington, VA

The year might be winding down, but the trivia is heating up at Capitol City Brewing Company in Shirlington!  A full house (and some new teams) joined our game this evening, as we gear up for the post-season.  The Capital Hillbillies put on a clinic tonight, practically running the table from start to finish and holding an insurmountable 18-point lead after round four.  Needless to say, it made the final question a bit less suspenseful.  Nonetheless, a few teams managed to snag “The Grinch” with a correct answer to land into the top three.  Second place went to Capitol City Goofballs, who will no doubt have an eggnog to cap off their evening.  Third place went to one of our new teams: the Bogus Maloneys!  We’ll be back for the last game of the year, starting with a question on the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”.  My favorite!  Just kidding…  ~ Matt

Champion Billiards – Frederick, MD

We had a mixed bag of tricks and toys tonight at Champions, it’s a good thing there were so many cookies around to soothe and distract. Lord, were there cookies!! Seems like everyone was digging in, and thank you very much to Jenny from FNQ and Allison from Wiser but still dead for the christmas presents! Looks like my christmas eve plans now include taking a solid whack at diabetes 😉 Oh the tasty cookie goodness!

Teams played well tonight, even with all their focus being on locking up the best cookies before the competition could get their hands on them.. You all were solid on your jewish rockers (Not quite the dreidel song, but we’ll take it), solid on the Christmas truce of WW1, even solid on oscilloscope! Egg nog though.. that damn egg nog! We followed that up with a final on the worse grinch movie of all time. Don’t gasp you know it was terrible. That green final flipped some things like the sleigh heading down to Who-ville.

It was Thundercats who rose triumphant with the help of a fledged out team, 2nd would have gone to 2nd place but they have too many players on the team so it was Hate us cuze they anus who took that 2nd spot while Comfortably Dum slid in by the skin of their teeth! Nice job! I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and I will see you next week where we will start with the movie The Devil Wears Prada.

Celebrity Bar and Grill, Hollywood Casino – Perryville, MD

What a crazy finish to last night’s trivia night at Celebrity Bar & Grill! I would never have thought it was possible, but one of the best comebacks I ever saw happened!

After the puzzle page, the team in 1st place was crushing it and leading the team in 2nd by 16 points. After round 3, the team in 2nd cut the lead to 9 points. After round 4, just before the final question, the team in 2nd was unbelievably only trailing 1st by 1 POINT!!

Then wagers. 1st place team wagered 12, 2nd place team went 0, 3rd place was unfortunately not going to even be a factor – Especially if they all answered incorrectly!!

Finishing 3rd was I’m Just Making This Up As I Go Along! Leading all game to drop to 2nd after the final was American Outlaws! With one of the best second half comebacks I’ve seen in a while, moving to 1st with their final wager was Pinky and the Brain!!

They picked Bowl Games for next Tuesday’s winner’s choice question, have a very Merry Christmas and I’ll see everyone next week at Celebrity Bar & Grill!!

Greene Turtle – Hagerstown, MD

Well, I wasn’t expecting to be joining you guys tonight, but you all made me feel very welcome for tonight’s game of Pour House Pub Trivia at the Greene Turtle!

Tonight’s game was quick and dirty, with all the teams playing in the running at some point, one group even dividing into two big teams trying to go head to head! It seems you guys are a bit immune to my humor, but I never gave up on you! I do wish I had had time to cue up some of the holiday songs like you all requested. Curse you internet issues!

Defensive wagers and correct answers were key for the final question! But after four tough rounds. three teams slugged it out to the end!

In third place, Ya Filthy Animals! Great job guys, and way to beat your counterparts 😉

In second place, the Cobras!

In first place, Rice Rice Baby!
Great game everyone! Next week Sean should be back in action, where the first category will be the TV Show Home Improvement! Have fun, and everyone have a wonderful holiday!

Until then,
Ian

Great times Tuesday everyone! Thanks for coming out to our pre-holiday bash La La style. We had a fun set, littered with some holiday craziness! Remember…there are 4 sides to a dreidel!

Orioles Nest #331 – Frederick, MD

Tonight we played our last game of live trivia before Christmas, so of course there were plenty of Holiday themed questions in the game. We started out with a question about one of the greatest Christmas movies of all time, Die Hard, asking about the accessory that Hans Gruber grabs on Holly as he’s about to fall to his death, which is her wristwatch. There were also questions about fruitcake, advent, the number of sides that a dreidel has, and the “Christmas Truce” that occurred during World War I. We even had a halftime page about people who were born on Christmas day and matching song lyrics to the song titles, holiday style.

However, I think the question of the night had to be about TV theme songs, which asked about the theme song for “Cops”, a song by a reggae band called Inner Circle. About half of the teams got the answer, but nobody knew the name of the group, and of course I had to play the song after the question was over, which led to plenty of laughter and several teams giving me the stink eye. The question about retired jerseys also proved to be tough, talking about Wilt Chamberlain who had his jersey retired by four different teams, including the Harlem Globetrotters; unfortunately, almost everybody guessed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Heading into tonight’s final things were pretty close at the top, with only a few points separating the top five teams. The final question asked about the highest grossing film of all time that is about Christmas, which came out in the year 2000. Only a few teams knew we were asking about “The Grinch” starring Jim Carrey, and that changed a few things around. Third place tonight went to Eddie Money’s Kids who still played a good game. Second place went to Ignorance is Bliss, one of only a few teams to nail the final question to jump a few teams. Winning tonight, however, was Black Steel, who also nailed the final and were already in first. Next week we start out with the Flash/Arrow TV show universe, which are both shows on the CW network that share a universe (kind of like the Avengers). I will see you all again next week, and happy holidays everybody!

Until next time,
-Chad

Quincy’s South – Rockville, MD

Packed house tonight at Quincy’s! Lots of teams having trouble even finding seating! While it can be frustrating, it says a lot about the popularity and success of our game! It’s definitely a good thing. Tonight’s game saw a large number of our regular teams AND we had some recent new teams come join us again, which is always great to see!

The story of the night was The Big Fact Hunt who, after losing 2 of their ringers a few months back due to a cross-country move, had a full team tonight, just like old times! Their two traveling members were back in town for the holidays and decided to come out and join us for trivia night! It definitely paid off as they held a lead at the half that would hold up fairly strongly throughout the game.

The teams tonight were playing top notch pub trivia. Not many questions stumped the majority of the teams, which makes its hard for me to pick out the “Game Changer” but I think I know it. It would have to be the Brit Speak question. Lots of teams picking up their wagers on this one BUT we did have 2 teams who were leading end up MISSING wager points on this question which potentially cost them the game.

Uncle Jack had a lead going into the 4th round but after missing the Brit Speak question, they found themselves in 3rd place going into the final. The Big Fact Hunt snuck into the lead, needing only a correct response on the last question to take down the much desired victory. The final question played about 50-50 tonight, many teams hoping that they fell into the more fortunate half on that one. Here’s how our results looked.

3rd place tonight would go to Rock the Cash Bar, who bet defensively and it paid off (one of their team members actually had the correct response but she got veto-ed, must have cost them a spot or two up the rankings!). A short-handed If We Lose the Terrorists Win took down 2nd place tonight with a correct response on the final. Your winners tonight are The Big Fact Hunt who played great throughout the game and nailed the final! Great win! Glad to see you back at full strength! We’re back in 1 week, enjoy the holidays, I’ll see you all back in 7 days!

1st Place: The Big Fact Hunt
2nd Place: If We Lose the Terrorists Win
3rd Place: Rock the Cash Bar

Next week: US Presidential Assassins

Senor Tequila’s – Germantown, MD

Another great night of trivia at Senor Tequila’s tonight! We discussed Superman and The Professor sharing a fruitcake on Gilligan’s island, the fact that liquid oxygen is actually a thing, and the best Jewish rockers ever (no Jack Black?! RUDE!).

John Lithgow’s Fan Club took the top spot again after one helluva final question with Ridiculous 6 in second and Beer Pressure in third. Next week’s winners’ choice category is for the hockey fans – the 2015-2016 Washington Capitals.

See you again soon!

Washington Capitals Trivia

Tilted Kilt – Frederick, MD

We had a great time this week at Tilted Kilt. The atmosphere was festive, the questions had a holiday twist, and our teams had a friendly battle to claim first prize. Also, ’tis the season to bribe your hosts with holiday gifts (thanks so much!!)

Our teams were neck and neck all the way up to our final, a tricky question that only one team managed to snipe the correct answer. While everyone else had safely forgotten the horrors that is “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” with Jim Carrey, Duchess came up with the movie and the win!

Taking second was Poovey Farms, and At Least We Tried takes home another third place. Duchess has selected, “McHale’s Navy” (the TV show, not the movie) as next week’s first category. See you next week!
