Cold Tuesday Outside, Hot Trivia Inside!
Brrrrr… Man, that wind cut right through you! So many teams joined up around the region, Ol’ man Wiinter’s attempt to keep the bars empty never stood a chance! We are giving him a nod thought and moving layoffs from Saturday to Sunday this weekend. When there’s a blizzard warning, we take it seriously. Same venues, same times, just a different day.. Tuesday night is our focus in this blog post though, so let’s see hwo they shaped up.
A great night at Whole Foods, with many of the teams only being separated by a few points. While they were neck and neck with each answer, it was a crazy finish where Mini Van Mafia beat out Pi by one point! Not only did they take top billing tonight, but they are our House Champions for Season XII!! Congratulations!
1st Mini Van Mafia
2nd Pi
Next week winter is coming in more ways than one, because next week we are doing the book series “A Song of Ice and Fire” see you then!

Capitol City Brewing in Arlington, Va
Another great night of trivia at Captiol City Brewing Company in Arlington. The capital Hillbillies closed out Season XII on a great run with SIX straight wins! They are primed for a World Series run!
Second place went to Gus Polinski & the Kenosha Kickers, with Capitol City Goofballs rounding out the top three.
Next week, we’ll start with ‘Stupid Answers’ (a reference to the real-life “Jeopardy!” category of the same name) ~ Matt
Ovechkin! O-Vech-kin! Or Over checkin. Tomato, toe-mato 😉 Well, there’s a reason so many of you enjoy hanging out with me all these nights and it’s not just my stunning beauty. Keep up the heckling and I will retract the whole spelling doesn’t count thing… then we will see how many of you are happy with answers like Jaromír Jágr!
We were in fine form tonight as 19 teams battled it out at Champions, once we got over the slight confusion of where in the game the 246 is played.. Yeah, it was one of those nights. Was also an excellent question night! Had teams thanking me for the Masters of the Universe question, cursing me for the NFL half time and funny enough everyone ended up craving a sloppy joe by the end of the night.
I really liked tonight’s final. Made you think, most of you were still too brain frozen to make the jump and only a couple teams hung on to that Weather Channel answer. Once the last wave was crested, it was Thundercats in 3rd. Comfortably Dum in 2nd and Hate us cuze they Anus was back in 1st! Nice job guys, can’t wait to see what ruckus you all kick up in the playoffs on Sunday. Next week we will meet up for a first question on the British Invasion. Music, not hostile takeover.
So Wiser but Still Dead were out of the top 3 tonight, but that is not their usual story- Many congratulations on making it to House Champions for Season XII! Go forth and do battle in the WS, for the pride of Champions Tuesdays! ~Samantha
Well not quite as cold as yesterday but we are right in there close tonight, game was certainly heated as these folks are COMPETITIVE! Congrats to U Talking to Me as House Champions for Season 12 at Cugini’s, great job! Remember that the weather has altered the playoffs and pub crawl so keep and eye on the website and Facebook for any and all updates.
Here are the results of tonight’s game:
U Talking to Me in 1st
Lightfoot in 2nd
Drunk n Disorderly in 3rd
Our first category for next week is 2016 Oscar Nominations! ~ Ronnie

The house championship came down to the very last game of the season, as we had a handful of teams that were within a few points of each other, making it way too close to call. The game ended up coming down to the final as well, as things were pretty close throughout the game too.
We opened up with a David Bowie audio question where we asked for the names of different people who were performing in duets with Bowie. It ended up being pretty tough, with only a handful getting two of them, and one team getting all three. I was also impressed with how many teams knew Mr. Bojangles Robinson from the movies with Shirley Temple.
The second round opened with another audio question, this time about songs with ‘occupational’ names. A few teams got tripped up by the Lady Gaga song ‘Paparazzi’, as well as ‘Dr. Feelgood’. One of the tougher questions of the night belonged to chemical elements which asked about an element that is sometimes mistaken for Magnesium, mostly because of the similar names, which is Manganese.
Halftime featured Morgan Freeman films, as well as matching NFL players to the record that they broke. Most teams did really well, although a few were ready to curse my name! The second half opened up with a question about the ‘Masters of the Universe’, which I’m shocked was actually a He-Man question, as I was absolutely prepared for that to be a play on words. That question ended up being a tough a one too.
The third round also had a mountain question which asked about two different mountains that are both named Mount Olympus. The final round opened with a question about The United States of Tara, which featured a character with dissociative identity disorder (formerly multiple personality disorder). The number question ended up being one that a bunch of teams got right, but were extremely unconfident about their answers, with another team wanting to curse me (before they got it right too!).
We even asked about Jaromir Jagr, who is still playing in the NHL at 43 years old, which is amazing. The last question of the round asked about Batman’s pet dog, as well as a character voiced by Stephen Colbert, which is Ace of the Ambiguously Gay Duo, with his partner Gary.
The final question tonight asked about a TV Network which aired its first ever feature film, which was The Perfect Storm, in 2009. The answer ended up being The Weather Channel, with about half the teams getting it. Third place tonight went to the Smarty Pants. Second place went to Fractured But Whole. Winning tonight (and the House Championship!) congrats to Black Steel! Next week we start with a 3-part audio 90’s cartoon theme song question, so study up! I’ll see you all again next week!
Until next time,
-Chad
We finished off the regular season with a photo finish at Tilted Kilt. We officially declared the TK House Champion for Season XII to be Poovey Farms! We congratulated the rest of our teams who will be joining them in the post-season, and wish all of them the best of luck at both playoffs and World Series! But the season wasn’t over yet, and we had one more set of trivia questions before the finish line. Teams were asked all about “The Masters of the Universe”, Data’s evil twin and the great Jaromir Jagr (who is not Data’s evil twin).
We eventually reached our final, with teams still close. Some strategic betting later, we had our winners. In third, and headed to playoffs was Duchess! Second, our House Champions Poovey Farms, and in first was returning team Dewey, Cheatum and Howe! They spent the season racking up multi-venue points, so they too will be headed to World Series XII.

Highlights of the Night:
In “Sandwich-101”: Messy sandwich guys. Messy. You can’t get much messier than Sloppy Joes. How did some of y’all not get to that point? I’m with you on Key West though, I’ve been there and I’m not aware of this place, so no issue there. Still though, come on!
In “That-Sounds-Awful-And-
In “Adventures-In-Spelling”: Jaromir Jagr is one of those names that makes me glad that we have our “spelling doesn’t count except for spelling questions” rule, because I received some fantastic spellings tonight! So many Ys and Es and other great letters!
After a stumper on the final, the podium was pretty much set.
In second place tonight, Hobgoblins!
Monkey Lala’s in Frederick, Md
What a fun night of trivia at the La La Tuesday night! New teams, veteran teams and some return teams came out and threw down! A lot of shots were taken – both the sarcastic type and the liquid type 🙂 And we got loose. Fun, fun times for sure. Thanks for coming out and playing everyone! Hope you enjoyed…
And the final Season 12 Top 3 spot goes to…
Good stuff everyone!
