Cobra pose has NOTHING to do with G.I. Joe! Wednesday night Pour House Pub Trivia roundup!

What an evening of live trivia it was – despite the rain, we had full houses at EIGHT venues for Pour House pub trivia!

It was nearly biblical out there, but it looks like the rest of this week is going to be great – maybe enough for a little outdoor yoga at your nearest park? My cobra pose needs work, but I’m still trying!

Our hint of the day was legendary book series Goosebumps…I won’t lie, as cheesy as these look now, I couldn’t watch this show as a kid, it geniunely frightened me!

I was kind of a wimp.

Atlantic Grille – Urbana, MD

A fantastic, albeit soggy, evening of bar trivia at Atlantic Grille in Urbana! We learned about getting lei’d in Hawaii and performing a perfect Squatting Water Buffalo while the Pope tweets about it 😉

 

Last season’s champs Baby Got Pratt came in and were neck and neck with current house champs Strangers Have the Best Candy throughout the entire game. They went into the finale with only a three-point difference, but a risky wager paid off and put Baby Got Pratt into the top spot with Strangers in second. Newcomers Team Kelly missed round one but they still managed to go all-in for the finale and grab up third place!

 

Next week’s Winners’ Choice category is TGIF Shows, so forget about “Game of Thrones,” “Mad Men,” and “Scandal” and catch up on “Family Matters, “Full House,” and “Boy Meet World.” Also, be prepared to be bombarded with all of Michelle Tanner’s cloying catch-phrases. You got it, dude!

HAPPY JUMPING WORM…and fun fact – Galaxy Queens decided it needed its own yoga position and invented one for me LIVE on the round break! And I must say it was impressively executed. Nice job my New Zealand friends…I wish I had my camera readied. 🙂 It is now officially a yoga position – up there with the “One Legged Pigeon.”

 

 

 

We had a lot of fun this evening  with some funny questions and category names. The “dirty domino” effect certainly rolling tonight. Once we went to “famous Tweeters” and “Do You Recall the Last Time We Did It?” it was all over LOL. 

 

In the midst of the good times, we also had a great game of trivia. Slapsgiving turned it on tonight and went wire to wire, pulling some answers from the ether like they do! Great work Slapsgiving! 2nd Place went to Say Hi to Your Mom for Me, who was the only team to get Cleo the female fish on the Pinnocchio question – I’ll have to see how many teams got that one tonight at the other venues…either way, sick pull and great game y’all! Finishing 3rd Place tonight was the crew of Thinkers and Dreamers, who let me know they have at least one “card shark” on their team and the poker questions are welcome any time 🙂

Bennigan’s – Clarksburg, Maryland

Tonight’s pub quiz had the ZJ’s starting out SUPER STRONG, being in the lead for most of the first three rounds… Round four proved to be a bit of a game changer, and our veteran team Uncle Jack jumped ahead and took the lead going into the final.

 

Of the 15+ teams we had tonight, only three were able to come up with a correct response on the final question. Uncle Jack got it correct, sniping the victory! Congrats! Second place went to Hot Dog Stigmata, who also got the final question correct. 3rd place went to The 4th Spy. I’ll see you all next week!

Fast Eddie’s – Fairfax, Virginia

What a blustery, stormy day for an inaugural night of bar trivia as host of Fast Eddie’s! Hope everyone had safe trips home, it’s a doozy out there! 

 

Despite the weather, four teams came and braved the elements to battle it out for Fast Eddies prizes. With a set that ran the gamut of G-rating for Disney characters, and R-rating for Adult Toys, it turned into a very close game.

 

In the final round of capture the Flag, this is how things went:

 

Taking third, Moving on Up! Good game guys, even if we did have a bit of a shouting problem. (whoops…)

 

In second, came Mess and JEG, not Mess and JAY as I called them through the first half (double whoops…) Well played!

 

And taking first, and the back to back victory for Fast Eddies, No Brains at the Bar! If you guys keep up this streak, I’d say you may need a new team name next season! Congratulations guys, and good game!

 

No Brains at the Bar have chosen the category of Star Wars for next week! Study up and May the Force be with You!

The Olney Tavern – Olney, MD

New faces and returning faces made for a wonderful evening of pub quiz in Olney on this evening, despite the rain that had me ready to trade my car in for a speedboat!

Hope everyone got home safe – it was a total mess out there!

Despite the conditions, the power stayed on, the questions were answered and we found some winners!

In third place, thanks to a correct final answer was Only the Lonely!

We had to settle a tie for our winner though, as I Just Quizzed in My Pants and newcomers Les Quizerables played GREAT games of bar trivia all night long.

I Just Quizzed in My Pants came out closer to the pin on our Starbucks tiebreaker, and took home the victory!

Les Quizerables had to settle for second, but a great round overall guys!

Before I let you go, I’d like to share some of my favorite (but unfortunately, wrong) answers from this evening!

Both came from our Gnarls Barkley question:

The first wrong answer pegged the band name as Short, Fat and Squeaky!

The second guessed the Emmy-winning 80s show that named their album as “LA Law!” Not right, but anytime you can get a Corbin Bernsen reference in a game of trivia, well, I love it.

Believe it or not, it had been tow and a half months since our defending house champions, the B-58s, had won a game, but that all changed tonight at T.J. Stone’s, as they came from behind on the final question to leapfrog two other teams and take home the top prize.  They also took over the lead in the overall standings with just three weeks to go in the season.  The battle for second place was a wild finish, as we had the first three-way (tie) ever at T.J.’s, but after the tie-breaker, it was Trivia Newton John that came out on top for second place, with suck It Trebek taking third, and Gone Squatchin’ so very close for fourth place.  Next week starts with a question on Mother’s Day!  ~ Matt

Valley Grill – Middletown, MD

Thanks again to all the teams who came out for a round of pub quiz at the Valley Grill Sports Bar in Middletown for our Wednesday night edition of PHT!

Here is how the game went down! Xavier Onassis crushed it tonight for 1st, Bernie Asshands played a strong game for 2nd, and Brain Freeze held in there strong for 3rd.

Our first category for next week is the film “So I Married an Axe Murderer.”
