Buffalo and the Rocky Horror Picture show! Pour House Trivia Wednesday recap!

Pour House pub trivia‘s Wednesday combined buffalo and the Rocky Horror Picture Show!

Rocky Horror Picture Show Pub Trivia Question Maryland

Always fun to get some disparate categories together like that. Check out the recaps!

Applebees – Frederick, MD

Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo. Did you know that is actually a grammatically correct sentence? I always think of that whenever buffalo comes up, either the animal or the city (in tonight’s case, both came up!). Buffalo is a place, an animal, and a verb meaning to bully, so they can be combined to create a very redundant sentence. We also got to listen to a clip from the Rocky Horror Picture Show, and discussed the philosophical differences between jazz hands and spirit fingers. We then ended the game with a question about birds, finding out five different states all have the mockingbird as their state bird.

That final question proved to be rather difficult, as I only had one team hand in the correct answer. Because of that there was no tie in the end, which there very well could have been as we had a tie for first at the final question. In third place was The Smarty Pants, making their return to Applebee’s and putting together an overall strong performance. In second was last week’s winners, The Know Nothings who were tied with our winners going into the final question. Our winners tonight ended up being the only team to get the final question right, congrats go out to The Carolina Reapers! Well done! They have chosen as next weeks category hot peppers (of which I was informed is one of the hottest!). I do love me some spicy food! I hope to see you all again next week!

Until next time,
-Chad

Bar Louie – Rockville, MD

The atmosphere was electric as the warm summer night served as a reminder that Playoffs, and World Series XI, are only a little more than a month away. With a valuable House Champion title up for grabs, teams brought their A-game to a set filled with questions that really tested the knowledge base of our players.

We grappled with decoding laundry symbols, “Chinese” desserts, and a whole array of Buffalo-related questions. Coupled with a challenging halftime page, this set left our teams in a tight race for first.
In the end, third place was taken down by Dumpster Fire, followed by Team Jacob in second and Uncle Jack took home first. They’ve selected The Fugitive – 1960’s TV show as next week’s first category, which has been described to me as, “Like ‘The Incredible Hulk’ TV series, but with no superpowers and 100% less Tommy Lee Jones than the movie version.” Looks like we have some studying to do!!

See you next week.

Slapsgiving went retro and bringing the ole ZERO WAGER back in fashion! What a finish to a tough and very exciting game of pub trivia at its best tonight! It was up and down all night. Round 4 was fun and had some serious teeth on it! And it bit! But it in a good way, like bunnies with teeth! That may have drawn blood – whatever, it was a dag’ on good game!

With some fun questions, my Top 3 faves:
1. Fortune Cookie – only cuz I am bound to inherit a bundle – in bed!
2. The Rocky Horror Picture Show – cuz it’s the Rocky Horror Picture Show, duh!
3. I dug the Van Gogh or Van Halen question – fun ssshhhtuff!

After a bit of trivia grappling, it wa as anyone’s game going into the final. And through some end game snipes and strategic wagering, our Top 3 came down like this:

As the post-season approaches, we’re seeing what teams are suiting up to make noise and what teams are, well, not. One team that comes to mind is My Favorite Team, who has been more than stellar here at Bennigan’s the last couple months. They’d won 4 in a row coming into tonight, do they win a 5th? More to come on that. Tonight’s edition of Question of the Night comes in the form of a Music Video question aka Hootie and the WTF?!?!

Here’s the break down: Hootie and the Blowfish had a video for “I Only Wanna Be With You” which featured the dudes from Sportscenter, which started in 1979. The most common wrong I received was Sesame Street, which notably came out during the late 60’s (I thought). A couple of other guesses that didn’t fit the bill exactly. No one was overly confident, so maybe it was a plethora of throw away guesses BUT I did have 2 teams come away with points (though, based on wagers, I’d assumed they were guessing too).

Tonight’s game featured the rare “Reverse Betting” strategy in the second half, which is a term I’ve made up to mean wagering 1, 3, 5, 7, then 9 respectively in a given round, hence showing that you were the least confident on every single question. The upsetting part is that these teams are getting 3 or 4 questions right but missing bigger wagers than they should have because of the technique. Hopefully the confidence comes back in time for the post-season! Tonight’s final was gotten correct by about half the teams, though a few teams that were in the money spots missed it, leaving prizes to be taken by teams who were behind a bit. 3rd place tonight went to DTTP, who jumped up a bit. Herding Cats takes 2nd, jumping up as well. But tonight’s winners, leading all game, leading all of the month of April it’s seemed, was My Favorite Team, claiming their 5th victory in a row. Ride that momentum to Hagerstown and you’ll be golden! We’re back next week with more games. Only a few weeks til the playoffs, get out here and get ready!

1st Place: My Favorite Team
2nd Place: Herding Cats
3rd Place: My Drinking Team has a Trivia Problem

Next week: One Hit Wonders (Music)

We always have a good time down in the Cellar and it was nice to get back to basics: good people, good beer and good questions! Thanks for taking this time out with me, I had a great time watching you all relax and enjoy the good natured (Mostly) competition.

In 3rd tonight it was Never Ending Motorboat, so good to have you here and even better to hand you a coupon! 2nd was no surprise, it was 2 live clue 2:need a bigger butt who just kept swinging and held on to that podium place. 1st went to those crazy librarians! Dewey Decimators! Nice job!! You all crack me up, it was fun to see teams get all shook up.

Can’t wait to see you all at the Pub crawl- One month out! I will see you next week with a first category of Retro video games, should be a good one. 🙂

Memories Charcoal House – Mount Airy, MD

We busted out of the confines of closed windows and doors tonight for our first indoor/outdoor edition of Pour House Pub Trivia!

It was a hell of a game, and just when I thought I could predict the outcome, BAM! You guys pulled off a BIG surprise.

In third place we had our Men & Pausers, leaping ahead of the competition with a strategic wager. In second, demolishing all hopefuls was Stone Cold Jane Austen, with an equally strategic final wager! But our first prize tonight went to our ferocious contenders, the Experienced Virgins!!

Their choice of first category? You guessed it: INFECTIOUS DISEASES!! I’ll see you crazy kids next Wednesday!

The Olney Tavern – Olney, MD

Tonight’s game at the Tavern was quite the competition!

Moving back up to 2nd was Team Gryffindor!! Back in 1st place after a small hiatus was Olney The Lonely!!!

Putter’s Pub – New Market, MD

Coming soon!

Revolution Bar – Fairfax, Virginia

Since I’m about 10 minutes out from boarding a plane to Florida, I’m going to keep tonight’s recap of Pour House Trivia night at the Revolution Bar brief.

Tonight’s game had it’s ups and downs, but it was a fun wild ride right to the finish.

In second place tonight, Left Shark!

In first place tonight, E=MC Hammer!

Mess and Jegg actually won tonight’s game, but they had too many people playing so unfortunately it doesn’t count. But they still got to pick next week’s round one category, and they have chosen Famous
Ians! I think they just like to mess with me 🙂

My flight’s being called, so I gotta run! See you next week!

Until then,
Ian

T. J. Stone’s – Alexandria, VA

Another fine evening of Pour House Trivia at T. J. Stone’s in Alexandria!  A tight race through the first half was a precursor to some bouncing around in the standings in the final round.  It was a bit of wicked final question, as only one team was able to come up with the correct response.  How would that affect the final standings?  Well, in tird place was a (sort of) new team, as Moleman in the Morning was able to cling to their spot in the money.  Our second place team as the ONLY one tyo hit the final, and so it was Gone Squatchin’ that jumped up SIX SPOTS into second place.  Our winners tonight (barely) were Did You Miss Us?, who made it two in a row by just one point.  See you next week!  ~ Matt

Valley Grill – Middletown, MD

We are getting close to breaking out the patio furniture for our pub quiz games up here at Valley Grill, I think maybe next week?

Great game inside tonight, including a tungsten tiebreaker to settle 3rd place! Here are the results of the game:
Drunk Savants in 1st
One Crow Short of a Murder in 2nd
Richard Tickler in 3rd
Our first category for next week will be the comedy film Zoolander.
