Angiosperms, gymosperms – get your minds out of the gutter! Pour House Pub Trivia Wednesday roundup!
Pour House pub trivia‘s Wednesday had NINE games across Maryland and Virginia!
With all this talk about angiosperms and gymnosperms, it’s no wonder that the Summer Fling is in full effect!
OK, OK. That was a lame joke. They’re just flowers, guys!
Check out how your team is stacking up and read on for more about how Wednesday went down!
Applebees – Frederick, MD
Today’s game at Applebee’s started out with a winner’s choice question about the book/movie Paper Towns. I’ve barely heard of that so I had no idea what to expect, but it turned out to be a decent question and a few teams were able to get the answer about catfish. I also liked the question about the Coneheads being on State Farm commercials, those commercials are funny. Teams got them mixed up with Hanz and Franz, unfortunately, who were in the commercials for the Discount Double Check with Aaron Rodgers. The Olympics history question was a good one too, seeing as how ice hockey and figure skating were both summer sports before the winter Olympics were established, which is a neat fact.
Round two started out with an audio question about G.I. Joe, which a bunch of teams missed, something that surprised me a little bit. I was also pretty surprised that so many teams knew the answer for three clues/ one word on two clues when the first clue was about the Pokemon video games, with the answer being Yellow. I guess the Coldplay song clue really helped, or there were some serious PokeFans in the crowd today! Methodism was a tough question overall, and I was impressed with the teams who did know it. The question about Guardians of the Galaxy proved to be very difficult which surprised me, if only because Guardians is one of my favorite movies and I’ve seen it so many times. I also only remembered the bonus of Blue Swede because of a line in the movie where Chris Pratt says the name of the song (Hooked on a Feeling) the artist, and the year it came out (1973!). Sadly, nobody knows the movie quite that well, and couldn’t quite remember their name, guessing Blue Oyster Cult instead. So close!
Halftime had some serious challenges of its own, with only one team knowing who Michigan J. Frog is, and only one other team knowing the real name of the Monopoly mascot, Rich Uncle Pennybags. Unfortunately Pennybags is also known throughout the world as Mr. Monopoly, so I had to give credit for that as well. Michigan still stood, though, and teams put The WB Frog, which is not his name! After that, we jumped into round three with a question about that song everybody sang when I was a kid as a joke, that Name Game song. I didn’t realize it was a real song that got released way before I was born, but you learn something new every day, eh? Also, Waldorf salads sound odd to me, I can’t imagine mayonnaise going well with the other ingredients, but people were assuring me it works, so who knows.
Round three overall provided some challenges, but ended with one team holding a huge lead. Unfortunately, round four proved to be a great equalizer, especially with that art question. That one completely wiped the bar, and then the botany question about angiosperms wiped all but two teams. After that, the monster truck question was not quite an easy one, with teams having to choose which one is bigger between Grave Digger and Bigfoot, but some were able to remember that Bigfoot IS the bigger of the two. After a deceptively difficult shared last name question about Stan Lee, Cliff Lee, and Peggy Lee (which led to some facepalming and some OMG’s when the answer was read) things went from having a team wayy out in first to a tie for first place, and it was just about to get verrryyy interesting…
The final proved to shake things up pretty heavily, with some teams making some serious jumps in the standings. Third place ended up going to the Carolina Reapers, making an appearance for the first time in ages, who leapfrogged quite a few teams. Second place went to Nation of Quizlam due to some defensive wagering, who also returned after a brief hiatus on the Injured Reserve, but welcome back! Winning tonight’s game however, was the team that was in third heading into the final and was able to take down the win with a correct answer on the final; congrats on the victory going out to Rent-A-Swag! Well done! I want to give a shout-out to 2 Live Clue 2 who played an exceptional game and had a huge lead throughout the game, but the final question knocked them out of the final standings due to the way things worked out; either way, you guys played great. Next week we start out with a question about the Halo video game series, which should be a fun one. So I will see you all again next week!
Until next time,
-Chad
Bar Louie – Rockville, MD
Bar Louie was off this week, but we’ll see you next Wednesday!
If last night’s set of trivia got loose and ran around the house squealing, it would look like this!
Yup, that little guy about sums it up! Now, don’t get me wrong – this is not to say we didn’t have fun scurrying around with this varmint for a bit! We absolutely did! He just bared his teeth a few times is all. But getting bit does have its plusses now and again 🙂
Great night outside – thanks for coming out and hangin’ with me at Bernies last night everyone! And congrats to our Top 3, who battled it out to the end for a leader board showing!
Have a great weekend y’all and I will see you next Wednesday night for some more hump day trivia. We kick that one off with “Cheers.”

Memories Charcoal House – Mount Airy, MD
The Olney Tavern – Olney, MD
It was definitely a CRAZY ending to last nights game of trivia at the Tavern! We had a lead change, a tie and only 4 points between 2nd and last at the end of round 4!
The final question was once again, the catalyst and game changer, and this is how we finished up: Moving from 5th to 3rd was Suck It Trebek! Dropping down to 2nd was, ironically, Moving Forward! The only team to answer the final correctly and make the move up into the winners seat was Olney The Lonely!!
They picked Music Theory for next Wednesdays winners choice, so study up and come see us next week at the Tavern!!

We had a tough night at the Revolution bar, but still a fun one! The game of Pour House Trivia ran a bit long but well worth it!
Highlights of the Night:
In “No-Awards-For-Y’all’: The Awards question was a lot tougher than I expected; no one got more than one award correct, for no credit.
In “Da-Hell-Is-That??”: Angiosperms? Gymnosperms? What are these words?! And how do any of you know what they are??
The final was a total whiff tonight, so the podium was pretty much set.
In third place tonight, Mess and Jegg!
In second place tonight, Nulli Secundas!
In first place tonight, E=MC Hammer!
Congrats to my top three teams; good games everyone! Next weeks category caused a sudden music change as we went to YouTube to reminisce and prepare. Winner’s Choice Category for next week will be “The Disney Afternoon“, the block of 90s cartoons that came on int he afternoons, including the Jungle Book, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, Tail Spin, Duck Tales, Gargoyles, and many more! Study up and we’ll see you next time!
Until then,
Ian
Valley Grill – Middletown, MD
Lovin the cooler weather and it was a NICE ONE on the patio here at Valley Grill in Middletown. Sorry about the brief Aquaman argument, but I had to call out the worst that Justice League has to offer. Anyway, here are the results of tonight’s game:
Richard Tickler in 1st
Stupid Sexy Flanders in 2nd
Fat Kids are Hard to Kidnap in 3rd
I’ll see ya in two weeks, Matt Frost will be your guest host next week, where you first category will be 80’s Billy Joel.
