An Olympic Driven Tuesday!
We know what you want, and we work hard to give it to you. Good games, good competition, good hosts, all general good things… You just show up, have a *good* time and play a game with us each week! Read on to see how Tuesday looked at the final countdown.
An interesting night at Whole Foods as we had a smaller group to work with, which made things even more competitive. It was a close game all night-even with two tie breakers, but in the end Get Smart got there 2nd in a row first place win!
We definitely had our best turnout for Tuesdays game at Zepheira Sports Bar since I took over hosting duties. And with more teams, the chance for a CRAZY finish is much more possible! Once we got to the final question for the night the top 3 teams had pretty much stayed in the same spot the whole game, but the wagering for it proved to be the way the top 3 placed. Finishing 3rd was Sanford & Son, dropping to 2nd was the Avengers, and with a smart wager to move up to the 1st place spot was a visiting team… Blank Space!! They picked “21st Century Art” for next weeks winners choice, so study up, and I hope to see everyone back next Tuesday at Zepheira Sports Bar!! ~ Jon
That Phelps though! It shouldn’t even be physically possible to swim that fast, but yet, he does! Much like some of our teams tonight- it shouldn’t be possible to be able to pull Stoichiometry with no help, but yet- they did!Spell check doesn’t even recognize it as a real word and yet numerous people in here tonight were teaching me how to say it correctly. Bunch of smartie pants.
We had a pressure cooker of a game, but our top spots were taken by some unfamiliar names! Heavens, our regulars were under fire tonight! Some strategy tonight but alas, it was for naught. Team the Other Sara just couldn’t be touched! They took home the 1st place spot. In 2nd it was the Wet Daddies who made their presence known, killing it on a very tough puzzle page. 3rd was just as impressive- it was our solo of Teamy McteamFace! Talk about a fun shake down. Next week we start out with Swedish History. Yay?
Did you know that 16% of the population within the European Union speaks German? We found that out after a tonight’s final here at Cugini’s in Poolesville, which gave some teams solace tonight in our final question. It was a great game and a close one as well. Here are the results:
Drunk N Disorderly in 1st
MoMo in 2nd
Never Mind in 3rd
Our first category for next week is U.S. State Capitals. ~ Ronnie
Tonight at the Orioles Nest we opened with a question about Olympic Sports, and it ended up being a pretty tough one, asking for the sport for which India has the most gold medals (in the men’s version), with only one team getting the answer of field hockey. Turns out they have 8 gold medals in that sport! That was pretty much the only Olympics question we had, although we DID get to watch Michael Phelps win another gold medal by like .04 seconds(!!!) after the game was over, which was really exciting.
Tonight’s audio clue was karaoke music, asking teams to identify songs by their instrumental versions, which is always fun. Halftime was cool, as it gave pictures of ten actors/actresses who gained significant weight for a role, asking for both the actor/actress and the film/TV role. It was amusing to see DeNiro on there twice, as I even had a player come up for the color and say ‘I swear these two look like the same guy!’
In the second half we started with a question about branches of science, and I was amazed that anybody knew stoichiometry before I gave the multiple choice. That was honestly my first time ever seeing that word. Tonight’s final question was about languages, and asked for the official UN language that is an official national language of only two countries, the fewest of any UN language. Several teams managed to get the answer of Chinese, which is the official national language for China and Singapore.
The final moved things around a bit, but third place went to Black Steel, who led for the whole game until the final. Second place went to Ignorance is Bliss, and congrats on the win to Fractured but Whole! Well done! I will see you all next week!
Until next time,
-Chad
Second Place: Poovey Farms
First Place: Book Club Babes
Senor Tequila’s in Germantown, Md
Another great night of Pour House Trivia in the books at Senor Tequilas! I love when we have a house full of regulars, because it means we can keep the game fast and furious, which it very much was!
Highlights of the Night:
In “The-Torch-Has-Been-Passed”: I love a good joke answer. I think most hosts if, you don’t have any idea on an answer, would much prefer a funny joke answer than a blank slip of paper. So when I get a great one, I like to celebrate it. And tonight I got what is very much my new favorite joke answer ever: On the the “I’m Still Here” question, unable to pull Joaquin Phoenix, Axl’s Doghouse decided that actor they wanted to see “retire from acting and move on to become a drug-addled hip-hop artist” could only be one person: Betty White. I would pay good money to see this movie, let me tell you!
In “How-In-The-Blue-Hell??”: Three Penny Opera?! Really? I didn’t think in a million years anyone would get that, yet the Fan Club pulled it out how?! Why do you guys know this?! Bunch of Smarty-pants apparently!
In “Fourth-Quarter-Nose-Dive”: The fourth round beat up on a few teams tonight, that made for a very interesting finish. Still its never easy to watch teams that were holding strong start to really struggle as they make the push for the final question of the night. Hang tough guys!
The final was a doozy that left the field stumped, so our podium was pretty much set.
In third place tonight, Beer Pressure!
in second place tonight, Jerry’s Kids!
In first place tonight, the Fan Club!
Great game everyone! Next week we’ll get a little sciencey and blowey-uppy, when we start the game off with a Triple 50/50 Mythbusters: Myth Confirmed or Busted? Study up, and we’ll see you next time!
Until then,
Ian
When you toss 11 pub trivia teams into Monkey La La on a Tuesday for some trivia night quiz-age, well, you get a throw down of Olympic proportions! We did pause a few times for some bar wide cheers on more USA gold in RIO. Other than that, it was an intense and powerfully fun evening of pub trivia at its best! And in true LA La style for sure!
Word of the night: STOICHIOMETRY! This word brought back some memories for me – mostly of getting distracted by the cute gal that sat next to me in chemistry class but I did manage to Facebook her today 🙂 What what?!?!?
Showtune of the night: 3 Penny Opera. This brought memories for me as I was in this play a few years back…I played a crazy, drug addled, English ruffian, which was a stretch as I am not English by any means!
Congrats to Michael Phelps, Katie Ledecky, the ladies USA gymnasts and these crews right here:
Oh yeah…pub quiz gold medalists baby! Great game y’all! Next Tuesday we continue the 2016 SUMMER FLING…and we kick off a question in “The Olympics” category. Until then, I hope you all have a great week. And I will see you soon – DG 🙂
