Holy Melted Brain Cells, Batman! Lots of “SOCKS!” and “THWACKS!” and “KA-POWS!” tonight with pub trivia at Atlantic Grille in Urbana! We learned a lot of valuable life lessons tonight – chief among them is that you have to be dead to haunt people. Otherwise, it’s considered stalking. Hmm…. who knew? π
It was a nail-biter down to the very end and it all came down to the final question. The first place team changed more than the profile picture of a duck-faced teenage girl! In the end, it was Strangers Have the Best Candy who edged out the competition and took the top spot with It’s Elementary Dear Watson and Momzilla taking second and third, respectively.
From this week to next week, we go from one campy sci-fi show to another – next week’s winners’ choice category is “Eric is the Tenth Doctor!” Gonna be interesting considering my complete knowledge of “Dr. Who” is that it’s a sci-fi TV show about phone booths or something…
See ya next week!

Turns out, that a particular trivia host has (gratuitous boasting incoming in 3..2..1) a better than average Marvin the Maritan and Woody Woodpecker impression in his arsenal. Who’da thunk? π
We had a blast tonight at Barefoot Bernies live trivia night. Kicked it all off with some 80s Hair Band tunes. I rehearsed a bit today and got to take a stroll down memory lane while picking the tunes. I used to love me some REO Speedwagon baby! And let’s face it…no night can go bland when you open the night with some old school DOKKEN! ROCK and Freakin’ ROLL my friends!
Great game played by all tonight! Had some fun questions, fun answers (let’s just say the word “pubic” made it on at least one answer sheet tonight – which in my book is always fun), and a couple of toughies too to mix it up. Congrats to our TOP 3 tonight on a game well played, against a tough field.
Have a great weekend my friends. See you next Wednesday at Bernies. The opening category will be “Eastbound and Down.” ‘Til then, be well π dg
Tonight’s game of live trivia saw two of our veteran teams fighting over the top spot with Uncle Jack and Murder on the Polar Express remaining close the entire way. After the final question we still didn’t have a winner pitting Uncle Jack into a tie for first with Murder. After the tiebreaker, it was Uncle Jack who pulled away for the number one spot, giving Murder 2nd place honors after a very well fought game. 3rd place went to I Just Quizzed In My Pants! Good game all. We did a double dip tonight for our post game Mini-Game. Winning BOTH categories was Chad of Murder on the Polar Express, looking to redeem his team from the 2nd place finish! Great job Chad! We will be back next week!
G as in grape, not as in Jesus! Ohhh Cellar…. Never boring… It was an interesting night, with large gaps being hurtled by teams all night in our game of bar trivia!
It was a battle for 3rd at the end of the night between Neverending Motorboat and Grab a Straw, you suck- It was Gasus for the win in the tiebreaker with a Lando’lakes win. 2nd went to Team Wednesday, and 1st went 2nd Place!
As sad as it makes me that I can not say that 2nd place was in 2nd place, I am excited for 2nd place being in 1st place! For next week we will start out with a question on Divergent, good one. π
Hooo boy what a night of live trivia at the Tavern in Olney tonight!
It was an absolutely PACKED house, with nearly every available space taken up by one of our trivia teams. And boy, did we have a showdown.
Teams were climbing over each other to get to the top of the leaderboard, and even handing in some fun wrong answers in the process! Here’s two of my favorites:
The construction worker specializing in masonry? Not Blue the dog!
The famous Key West bar having a look-a-like contest? Not Harper Lee at Tequila Mockingbird! But I do love the wordplay!
In third tonight, the Hammerjacks! Welcome back guys!
In second, and boy was this a tough battle, I Just Quizzed in my Pants!
Your winners tonight, for the second week in a row, Only the Lonely!
It was a beautiful and rough night of live trivia at Revolution Bar in Fairfax! With veteran teams all vying for the top spots, it was a hard fought match.
Highlights of the night:
It was universally agreed that there are way more famous members of the 27 club.
The teams got a kick out of my Marvin the Martian impression. I now have a fun threat whenever they talk back to me: blow them up with my Space Modulator!
There was much disappointment that the Ain’t Nothing But a G Thang category was NOT about the song.
I have to remember to take “What Does the Fox Say?” off the playlist; it played a full 20 seconds before I realized what was going on. *Shudders*
We had a last minute scoring shake up with the final, and when all was said and done, the standings looked like this:
In third place, Sic Semper Tyrannis! Congrats guys, especially with the little boost on the Latin question π
In second, jumping up from fourth place came Liquor? We Hardly Knew Her! Way to bounce back guys, good game!
Movin on Up lead the whole game, and went into the Final 15 points up. And they still wagered 12. Luckily for them, they knew their bad movies and stayed on top, taking first place overall! Strong showing guys, very impressive!
Movin on Up has chosen Modern Country Music Lyrics as their first round category for next week, so grab your boots, cowboy hats, tractors, and red solo cups, and we’ll see you next time!
Until then,
Ian

Apparently, one of our regular teams that was “taking the summer off” decided to pop in for a visit at T.J. Stone’s in Alexandria. It was Winners in Life, and the weeks off must have done them well, because they were able to hold off a tightly-packed field to claim a win tonight! This will pretty much force them to come back next week. Wee Baby Seamus was able to sneak into second on the tiebreaker over Sorry Folks, Park’s Closed. Next week begins with a question on the Oscar-winning** film “Super Troopers”! See you next week! ~ Matt
What a gorgeous (and marginally chilly) night to play at little bar trivia out on the patio at the Valley Grill Sports Bar, here is how this game went down!
Fat Kids are Hard to Kidnap was our first place finishers, with Team LaQueefa coming in a very close 2nd.
Dufregne Party of 4 pulled it out for 3rd.
Our first category for next week is Classic Video Games, so see ya’ll then!
