A wickedly cold Wednesday full of hot Pour House Trivia!
Pour House pub trivia‘s Wednesday had NINE games of wickedly good live trivia on this wickedly cold Wednesday! I should feel grateful for not being in Buffalo and dealing with the 3,031 feet of snow they had dropped on them, but boy, am I already not into this super cold nonsensery! (I just made that word up.) But seriously, I’m just not ready for sub-30* temps before December! Anyway, enough weather ranting: How about some trivia recaps?
Applebees – Frederick, MD
When I hear somebody described as a “prolific 3-point shooter” my mind immediately locks onto one person. No, not Reggie Miller, or Ray Allen, and not Steve Kerr. I’m talking about none other than the great Shaquille O’Neal! Luckily, That’s What You Get For Thinking, one of our new regulars, thought the same way. Great minds do think alike! But silly answers aside, tonight’s game really was a fun one. On a separate note, any time an SR-71 reference is dropped, I can’t help but smile, and wonder why their song(s?) isn’t/aren’t on my playlist. The game started with a question about All In The Family, more specifically about Sammy Davis Jr, and ended with last week’s winners, One Crow Short of a Murder, spreading their wings and cawing out a victory song to maintain ownership of the crown. In 2nd place was a team who can’t seem to decide on a team name, this week coming in as Funky Chad. Our third place team claims to be a Dalek Dance Party, but with them playing as just a duo, it was more like a duet. Nonetheless, they did well to secure a top 3 finish for the second week in a row. Next week will be a 3-point shooting competition between Tupac, Shaq, and anybody else who wants to join! After that, however, the trivia game will open with One Crow of a Murder’s choice of Horrible Bosses as the first category. As a reminder, we WILL be there on Thanksgiving Eve, even though it might get crazy. Hope to see you all there! Until next time, Chad B
Atlantic Grille – Urbana, MD
Bennigan’s – Clarksburg, Maryland
Most of the regulars tonight had full teams which made for a pretty sizable gathering tonight at Bennigan’s. Erotic Friend Fiction, Trivial Pursuers, Anderson Cooper?, My Favorite Team, to name a few, all had bigger team sizes than usual; it’s always great to see more people coming out to support what we do! And I hope to see more of them in the future! It was also good to see Team Spret back again tonight, always asking me “what song is this?” which I HOPE is a way of saying “whoa, cool song! I gotta go get this!” and not “okay cool now I know what artist/group I need to avoid in the near future…” Tonight’s game saw Erotic Friend Fiction playing a near perfect game, seemingly dominating the field, up 6 on 2nd place, and double digits on everyone else going into the final question. The final question played a bit difficult and, even with a defensive wager, EFF unfortunately missed the final and dropped to 2nd place, giving way for the lead to be taken from behind (there’s an image) by the Trivial Pursuers! They were only 1 of 2 teams to get a correct response on the final, jumping up a number of places to take down the victory! Congrats guys! Good game! 3rd place went to My Favorite Team who had a little extra team help tonight. Next week is THANKSGIVING WEEK and WE ARE ON FOR TRIVIA! I’ll unfortunately be leaving for Florida on Tuesday, BUT good ol’ Matty Fresh will be filling in for me and making sure the game runs as smoothly (okay, hopefully much smoother….) as when I’m there. You’re in good hands. Hopefully you’ll be back next week, same time, same place! See ya in 2 weeks, friends!
The Cellar Door – Frederick, MD
Twas the night before Thursday and all through the Cellar, teams were a stirring… Yeah, I am done. lol. I am terrible at poems! Not going to quit my night job 😉 It was fun to see so many reserved signs down here, things are hoppin’ in the underground – remember that we are NOT here next week. We had a helluva game tonight, with the top 3 full of ties and swapping; pure chaos! Lots of fun. Our final though, damn you Salvation Army! I mean damn you Hugh Jackman! They fell beneath the Salvation Army drum and dropped from 1st to 3rd. 2nd belonged to the twosome of the very entertainingly named (You had to be there) Cunning Array of Stunts. 1st? Well. first went to Pardon Me, Would You Like Your Caviar Fertilized? Nice job! When we come back we will start out with Georgia Tech Football. Drink, sing and be merry – I will see you in two weeks. Sam
The Olney Tavern – Olney, MD
I was worried that this cold was gonna hurt my team turnout at The Tavern tonight, but we had a nice showing of teams who braved the cold so they could get in their last trivia fix before Thanksgiving!! (Thank you!! 🙂 ) By the end of the 3rd round, 3 teams had pretty much distanced themselves from the rest of the pack for the top spots, but which spot would each finish in? After the final question it was settled, finishing 3rd tonight was I Quizzed in My Pants! In 2nd place was Team Gryffindor! And the only team to answer the final question correctly, your game winners tonight, Olney the Lonely!! Now there is NO game next Wednesday (Thanksgiving Eve), so in TWO weeks we will start the game off with O.T.L.s winners choice category, “Turkey“. (The country, not the animal!) Have a FANTASTIC Thanksgiving everyone, and I’ll see you back here in Olney in 2 weeks for trivia!! ~ Jon J [Editor’s note: This is not the country of Turkey, but rather a delicious looking fowl. We thought it was prettier to look at!
Revolution Bar – Fairfax, Virginia
If there’s one word to describe the trivia scene at the Revolution Bar, it’s unpredictable! Between a field of all veteran teams, the top spots can and do change often and always. And everyone is always in it until the end! Highlights of the night: I’m not sure Kennedy would’ve been for an Antidisestablishmentarianism Act but it was at least funny to say over the mic, in Best Wrong Answer of the night. You have given me too much power Revolution. I now know that all I need to control the lot of you is to put on Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off.” What I do with this knowledge? Teeheehee… I’m told I may know too much about Joss Wheedon. I say you people don’t know enough! IN JOSS WE TRUST!! At the end of the night, the final proved to tough for everyone, and defense wasn’t on anyone’s mind, so our podium was set. In third place, we had Mess and Jegg! tough go of it guys, but still a good game! In second place, the Del Rey Dummies! That’s 2 for 2 podium appearances since they started playing here! Good job guys! In first place tonight, taking it down after being in the hunt for several weeks, the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes! Congratulations guys, well done! For their first round category next week, the EMH have chosen the Weasley family of Harry Potter fame! Take a trip to the burrow and get studying! Until then, Ian
T. J. Stone’s – Alexandria, VA
What’s better than a massive traffic jam? Well, anything really… But especially a night of trivia! After a short Beltway-induced delay, we were underway with our field of 11 teams at T.J. Stone’s in Alexandria. We’re All Wet was back after their debut performance last week, and they played a stellar game, leading virtually the entire way. But, a slip on the final cost them the win, and ti was All the Marbles who jumped in for their first victory! We’re All Wet did take second, with the B-58s coming back nicely to take third. Don’r forget, we are OFF NEXT WEEK! I’ll be back on December 3rd with an opening category of ‘I Escaped Animals’. Uh… OK then. ~ Matt
Well it has been a week for multiple ties as we had four teams tied for 2nd in our game of pub quiz tonight at Valley Grill, the most that I have had in a single game for as long as I can remember. Your Mom’s a Horcrux was our clear winners tonight, finding “salvation” in their final answer. (sick pun btw) Four teams fought for 2nd, with Fat Kids are Hard to Kidnap coming ahead of Buns of Anarchy, who finished in 3rd. Remember we are taking a break next week so happy Turkey day to all! The sad thing? The SR-71 Blackbird can get to London faster than I can get to D.C. in heavy traffic. ~ Ronnie
