A tip-top Tuesday of Pour House Trivia!
Pour House pub trivia‘s Tuesday was full of trivia at SEVEN venues! We had a little doughnut and coffee trivia, a bit of Steve Miller, heck we just about had it all. Peep the games!
Capitol City Brewing Company – Arlington, VA
Season X is rolling right along at Capitol City Brewing Company in Shirlington Village. For the third week in a row, we had 15 teams pile in, and after a stellar second half, it was Rockin’ the Bonus (aka Ramparting Ways) who actually did rock it this week, and cruised to an easy victory, just a few points off of their own all-time high score. Capitol City Goofballs took second, with Zissou in third. Thanks to the new teams that joined us for the first time this week, and we can’t wait to see you again. Next week, we’ll start with a question on Famous (MLB) Catchers. ~ Matt
Champion Billiards – Frederick, MD
Damn you communism! Damn you! You threw a serious glitch in to the workings of all my teams tonight, and it all came down to how they weathered the Marxism storm of answers. It was Off in Public who took their first podium place at Champs tonight with a 3rd place finish. Not bad, not bad at all. Nice to hand you some cash for a change 😉 2nd went to a bit of a combo team tonight – It was Wiseacres with some throwback favor of Stephen Hawking’s Karaoke Machine since Nicole was in town. Always good when that happens! In first though, it was those strategic men of BTI who took first tonight after hedging their bets on a fill in the blank! See you next week for a close to home first category of Frederick Magazine. Have a good week! ~Samantha
Cugini’s Restaurant – Poolesville, MD
Wild night of live trivia at Cuginis here in Poolesville, and we needed a tie breaker to settle it all at the end! Serenity Now was our winners tonight after said tiebreaker, with Blue Barracudas taking down 2nd. Drunk and Disorderly held on at the end to finish in 3rd. Our first category for next week is the hit AMC show The Walking Dead. ~ Ronnie
Hollywood Casino – Perryville, MD
Jekyll & Hyde Tavern – Frederick, MD
We had a great time playing live trivia tonight at Jekyll & Hyde’s Tavern!! Walking away with our third place prize tonight was Dalek Dance Party!! Ahead of them by a single point, stealing second place were the Book Club Babes!! But the first place spot was reserved for Black Steel, who chose Monty Python & the Holy Grail!! See you next Tuesday!!!! – Torie
Markham’s – Bethesda, MD
We had a record number of teams at Markham’s tonight, which caused one of the closest games of pub quiz we’ve seen here all season! With house regulars and new teams mixing it up, we had a heated night from start to finish! Highlights of the night: Interestingly enough, everyone who got the Steve Miller Band question correct all put the wrong mythical equine for their bonus: Pegasus, not Unicorn people! The puzzle page … oh the puzzle page. Far too many people put down Dunkin’ Donuts instead of Krispy Kreme. For SHAME people. If you have not experienced Krispy Kreme donuts fresh out of the oven at an actual bakery-store, you have not had the perfect doughnut. Mmmmmmmmmmmm…sorry what was I saying? We came down to the final tonight, with 4 teams all within 4 points of one another, and as it would happen, every single team picked a different but none-the-less famous novel. Who would emerge victorious? In third place, a regular team with a penchant for changing their name, and a defensive wager, came Is it Too Soon to be Ray Rice for Halloween? ! I would argue the answer to that question is yes, but still a good game guys, well done! In second place, with an even more conservative wager and thus a nice little last minute jump, came the Chronic Underachievers! No strangers to the podium, great game guys! In first place though, the only team with the correct answer of Catcher in the Rye (despite my personal opinion that Holden Caulfield was a whiny little SOB and not some deep thinker) came a brand new team, the K-Town Kids! Congratulations guys, and a great game! What a way to start their Pour House career! For their first round category next week, the K-Town Kids have chosen Kitchen Trivia! Get cooking guys! Until then, Ian
Monkey La La – Frederick, MD
How I love a rainy night – as the late, great Eddie Rabbit would say! And last night’s moist evening of pub trivia at Monkey La La was off the charts! Thanks everyone for coming out and playing some Tuesday trivia. Our game Tuesday featured the La La veterans defending against an onslaught of traveling crews, and even Frederick Magazine was there to cover the story 🙂 (We will keep you posted as to when the article will be published).
Fun Fact Re-Cap:
1. Toughest answer of the night: “congruency”
2. Softball of the night: “Febreeze”
3. My favorite: “Misery” – Kathy Bates all day!
The game was a horse race for a few hours, with teams bobbing in and out of the Top 3. As we hit round 4, it was anyone’s game going into the final. Ole Karl Marx reared his head and dropped some communism trivia on us for the endgame.
Congrats to our Top 3 – agianst a tough field, this was no easy feat!
Thanks again everyone for braving the rain and coming out to play. I bid you a dry and wonderful week and hope to see you next Tuesday at La La for some more pub trivia, La La style. We kick it off with “Indiana Jones Trilogy – No Crystal Skull!” Til then…”Let your friends underestimate your qualities and your enemies overestimate your faults.”
