A Thunderous Night of Thursday Trivia!

We had some packed houses for Thursday night trivia, as three different Pour House venues posted fields of 15 or more teams each!  Tonight’s winners certainly earned their prizes.  Two teams also managed to clinch a House Championship!  On to the nightly recap:

THURSDAY’S STATS AND FACTS (74 teams across seven venues):

–> Highest Overall Score: The Fan Club (Quincy’s) with 167

–> Highest Score after Round 4: PC Principals (Fish Market) with 158

–> Highest First Half Score: Indians (Bunker Sports) with 88

–> Perfect 21 (correct on all wagers and final): Your Mom (Bunker Sports), Clever Team Name (Quincy’s), The Fan Club (Quincy’s)

–> The halftime page was one of the toughest all season, with an average of 12.3.  Only ONE TEAM (Indians) scored a perfect 20.

–> Likewise, the 6-4-2 question about “The Nightmare Before Christmas” was equally tough, with just three teams earning six points, and only two teams earning four points.

TONIGHT’S FINAL QUESTION (48.7% success rate):

–> Aside from words within sequel titles, what is the LONGEST word to appear in the title of more than one Tom Cruise films? (you’ll find the answer in this blog)

Quincy’s in Gaithersburg, MD

After a brief absence last week I was back in action tonight at Quincy’s for another heated game of Pour House Trivia as the season comes to a close!  Fifteen teams crammed into the bar for tonight’s game!

Highlights of the Night:

In “Seriously-Who-Is-That”: Tonight we had a winner’s choice category that, it was pretty clear, almost no one except the team that picked it had heard of. As it turns out, this Conor Oberst person is in fact a folk singer. I was thinking hockey player for some reason. None-the-less, it was our biggest one-magnet of the night, which always a rough way to start the game. Yikes!

In “I-Mean-It’d-Be-Funny”: No, unfortunately, neither Liberaci nor Billy Joel were the correct answer for the 2 point bonus on the Tchaikovsky question, as hilarious as it would be for either to be right. Good try though guys 😉

In “Puzzle-Pages-From-Hell”: You know it’s gonna be a long rest of the night, when the average puzzle page score is only 13, with several teams in single digits. I don’t remember the last time I saw a 3 on a puzzle page…It ended up being a bit crucial, as the top score of 17 helped the winning team tonight pull ahead a bit!

In third place tonight, Blue Collar.

In second place tonight, Clever Team Name!

In first place tonight, the Fan Club!

Great game everyone! Next week we will wrap up our season with our final WC category of season 14, Antique Automobiles! Let’s go for a Sunday drive, and we’ll see you next time.

Until then,

~ Ian

Antique Cars Trivia

Champion Billiards in Frederick, MD

Champions!  You were hopping tonight!  We had 18 teams, and no one was pulling their punches!  It was fun to see the regulars fight off the new kids, and some traveling teams mixed it up even more.  Lord knows I actually had to work for it tonight, but I enjoyed every minute of it.  Thanks for hanging out with me tonight!  I’m going to keep this short and sweet as I know you just want to get to the good stuff.

We had ties all over the place tonight, and at the final it came down to Comfortably Dum and Just Good Enough – some Tom Cruise shenanigans didn’t even make them blink and it was off to a sudden death tiebreaker!  Comfortably Dum took it with the ol’ standby ’69 and JGE had to be happy with 2nd tonight.  Speaking of happy – Syn Storm played a great game and were thrilled to grab the last spot on our podium.  Love it!  Studying will be fun this week, as we start with the film “Short Circuit”.  Hey, Johnny five!

Short Circuit Film Trivia

Bunker Sports Cafe in Leesburg, VA

We had eight teams converge on Bunker Sports Cafe tonight for some Thursday night Pour House Trivia, we had new faces and some folks we haven’t seen in awhile, thanks for coming!  For the first round, we played some Monopoly, honored our veterans, and remembered that “sometimes a cigar is just a cigar”.  Round two featured some popular songs sung in different languages, a diabolical duo of bank robbers, and even did a little frog jumping. Round three entertained subjects such as First Ladies, biology, and the Summer Olympics; while the final round delved into Greek mythology, classical music, and Blackjack.  Remember we are crowning the House Champion here at Bunker next Thursday!  Here are the results:

First Place:  Your Mom

Second Place:  Thundercats

Third Place:  Cranius Maximus

Next week’s first category:  The NFL Playoffs

Smoketown Brewing in Brunswick, MD

WOW…. the whole town of Brunswick seemed to be here at Smoketown for some great weather to hold our Thursday night trivia.  A record 16 teams took part in tonight’s game, and what a fun game it was!  First was traded back and fourth, but in the end Scoundrels continued their streak for first, which means that they clinched the first-ever House Championship!  We also had a three way tie for second!  After the tiebreaker, our top three teams were as follows:

First Place:  Scoundrels

Second Place:  Santa!  I know him!

Third Place:  Raider Nation

Much love folks, see you then!

Morgan Ridge Railwalk in Salisbury, NC

Coming soon…

Fish Market in Alexandria, VA

We had quite a showing tonight at the Fish Market as a large chunk of teams came out to play some trivia! Last chance to get in some practice before the postseason starts, we’ve only got a week or so until the playoffs begin! PC Principals looks ready to dominate the postseason, winning 3 in a row if I’m not mistaken. Looking to stop them tonight was a good crowd of new teams and some of our veterans including Ant Farm Keyboard and Bless Your Heart!

A rough halftime page saw a high score of 14 points and an average of 10 points. Identification of cheeses and celebs modeling in their youth proved very difficult for the teams tonight, though it wasn’t quite polarizing, as most teams hit the double digit mark any way. PC Principals still able to hang on to a score of 88, and a lead going into the 2nd half.

An unusually tough night for Ant Farm Keyboard who usually dominate when they show up, tonight they struggled to get momentum in the 2nd half. This left room for PC Principals to annihilate the field, going up by a big big margin going into the 4th round. Ant Farm Keyboard made up some ground in the 4th but it was not enough. PC Principals had a gigantic lead. A 15 point lead says game over.

That was all she wrote. PCP wins another and look to win the house championship (which I’ll announce next week). 2nd place to Bless Your Heart and 3rd place to a new crew called Okie Dokie Hokies! Good game all. Bring it next week, look to take down PC Principals while their hot! Playoffs next Saturday, good luck to everyone playing! Until next time, later!

Next week’s first category:  13th Century Monarchs

13th Cent

Guido’s in Frederick, MD

We had a great team turnout at Guido’s Speakeasy on Thursday for trivia!  We even had a couple of first timers in the mix to spice it up for the regulars!  After the final question was answered and the scores were re-tallied, this is how it looked…  Finishing in 3rd place was one of our new teams, Bone Saw McGraw!  2nd place went to T.N.C. and our 1st place winner was Unathletico Madrid!!  They picked “Major League Soccer” as this Thursdays winners choice, so study up and I’ll see everyone next week at Guido’s!!
