A terrific Tuesday with Pour House Trivia!

Pour House pub trivia‘s Tuesday was full of trivia at SEVEN venues! “It is said that despite its many glaring (and occasionally fatal) inaccuracies, the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy itself has outsold the Encyclopedia Galactica because it is slightly cheaper, and because it has the words “DON’T PANIC” in large, friendly letters on the cover.” Man, oh man do I love the Hitchhiker’s Guide! But that was just ONE of the many awesome things we covered on Tuesday – read on for more!

Capitol City Brewing Company – Arlington, VA

 Our second week at Capitol City Brewing Company in Shirlington was just as busy as Opening Night, as once again, 15 teams piled in for trivia.  Our friends from down the road, My Favorite Team, played a great game and had a comfortable lead heading into the final.  But, a conservative wager backfired, and it was Team Zissou who came from behind for their SECOND straight win!  Great job!  Capitol City Goofballs took second despite a bit of a hiccup out of the gate, and the Stamp Collectors took third.  next week, we’ll begin with a question on 1980s Hardcore Punk.  ~ Matt

Champion Billiards – Frederick, MD

Fresh from a long weekend, these teams were ready for some serious live trivia! Even two audio clues in one game couldn’t slow down this field of veteran players looking for trivia dominance. BTI was the definition of dominant this game, taking the lead early and never letting go. 8 Ways to Bacon, a duo team of familiar faces, took down second, and, after a close tiebreaker, Jungle Fever took home third tonight. Next week’s first category, as chosen by BTI, is “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure.” Should be a good time – don’t forget an umbrellaAAAAAAAAAH! I SAID THE SECRET WORD!! HAAAAAAAAA!!

 

Cugini’s Restaurant – Poolesville, MD

It was a rather windy night of pub quiz at Cuginis in Poolesville, and the leader board blew around throughout the game as if we were playing outside. Serenity Now was our first place team, with Lightfoot coming in a close second. MoMo held on through and took down third. Our first category for next week is the Dewey Decimal System. ~ Ronnie

Jekyll & Hyde Tavern – Frederick, MD

Yet another awesome night of live trivia at my new venue Jekyll & Hyde’s in downtown Frederick!! In third place, walking away with a prize tonight, were our Book Club Babes!! In second place by a SINGLE POINT was Beer is Good!!  But our top prize winners tonight were BLACK STEEL! Their choice of first category next week? Interstate Highways!! Markham’s – Frederick, MD

It was a strangely hot inside Markham’s tonight. Maybe it’s just the competition heating up, maybe its a weird AC system, but either way things were boiling for tonight’s live trivia! Highlights of the night: Note to self: when a team calls themselves “Big Winners,” and you have to call multiple teams up to the mic, make sure you make it clear that Big Winners is a team name, to forestall getting a team’s hopes up of winning something, only to have them crushed. Sorry guys! You’re still winners! There was a shockingly low number of teams who knew about The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy! You froods need to remember where your towels are! And if you don’t get that reference, you ALSO need to read the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy! Or at least watch the passable movie with Martin Freeman, Mos Def, and Zooey Deschanel… New favorite category: name the tall birds. It’s both a silly-fun question to ask, that generates silly-fun answers. I demand more Tall Bird questions! Going into the final, The Chronic Underachievers capped off a dominant performance by being over 30 points ahead, wagering 0, and STILL getting the final correct!! Incredible job guys, way to go! So it would be a battle for second and third, and it went like this. In second place, wagering defensively came the Snowmen! Way to hang tough guys, especially after that third round! Rounding out the top three came a new team, the Big Winners! good game guys, well done! The Chronic Underachievers have chosen Mixed Martial Arts as their first round category for next week! So study up on grown men beating each other to a pulp, and we’ll see you next week! Until then, Ian

 

Monkey La La – Frederick, MD

Here’s a little taxi cab confession of my own: whenever we do a pub trivia question about Brett Favre, I have a small panic attack before I say his name. I see visions of everyone sprouting horns and laughing at me, screaming “Faavavavavaavvvvvvvrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaa” kinda thing. Maybe I have issues 🙂 Tehe… in between my panic attacks, however, we threw down one hellva pub quiz at Monkey La La last night! As we watched the O’s make life tougher on their themselves, we watched Stink Floyd rock and roll at a set of trivia questions!
