A tantalizing and cold Tuesday with Pour House Trivia!
Pour House pub trivia‘s Tuesday hit you with EIGHT great games of live trivia!
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m finished with the cold, I think. Can we fast forward a few weeks? Because my driveway is so icy right now that I can’t park in it!
Check how all eight pub trivia games went down.
Capitol City Brewing Company – Arlington, VA
A great game tonight at Capitol City Brewing Company in Shirlington as The Illegitimate Children of Eric Perini made it two in a row with a wire-to-wire victory! Capitol City Goofballs took second with Capital Hillbillies rounding out the top three. Next week, we’ll continue with the theme of singers fro the Great White North, as we take a look at the career of fictitious Canadian pop star Robin Sparkles! ~ Matt
Champion Billiards – Frederick, MD
Oh man, 20 teams at Champions tonight! You all were making me work for it! Even with all the big numbers, it was a trivia night for the small teams!
In 3rd tonight were Cranius Maximus, a duo! They proved that two heads are occasionally better than 7 😉 And if 2 heads are better than 7 tonight, then 1 is even better than 2! Yes, a solo player took the 2nd place spot – Newton’s Minion! Impressive job making up ground at the end. That tough final was certainly a game changer for quite a few teams.
One of the teams that it didn’t shake up was BTI though! They stayed rock steady through it and came out the other side in the top spot! Nice play gentlemen. I’m not so sure about your category choice for next week though.. New Zoo Revue. It’s a 70’s children show… slightly scary now.. Check it out for yourself. Be well and I will see you next week.

Thanks to you all for your support!
After a tiebreaker question, here are the results of tonight’s game:
How I Met Ronnie in 1st
Quizzed My Pants in 2nd
MoMo in 3rd
Our first category for next week is Calvin & Hobbes.

Hollywood Casino – Perryville, MD
With the snow safely melted, it was time to get back to trivia! Everyone was ready for a great match, thought they had no idea how close of a game we would have.
Early questions showed us who was really focused, and some teams who might have been distracted by the Maryland game 😉 We discovered our home run experts, reflected on some famous Bridges, and even discussed some objects that are bigger than 5.5 inches. HEYOOO!
As we approached our final, the teams had all bunched up. Every team was within the potential point spread of the last question. As teams pondered the question, which was particularly tricky due to it’s timeliness, answers started to pour in. With only three teams sniping the correct answer, we had a leaderboard coup!
In third was The New Kids, who at this point aren’t quite so new anymore. In second, Cresswell’s Fairies rose out of the masses to gracefully accept the runner up position. And in first, dominant all game, was a new team called Perryville Renegades! They’ve chosen, appropriately, Slot Machines as next week’s first category. Good luck!!
Markham’s – Bethesda, MD
Tonight was a wild one at Markham’s Bar and Grille! All veteran teams packed in and made a fight of it. Well, most of it anyway.
Highlights of the Night:
In “Well-That-Was-Creepy…”: You know it’s gonna be a weird night, when on the first question, your teams hand their answers in, in the exact order you have them entered in the computer…
In “Well-I-Think-It’s-Cool…”: Apparently I’m the only one who thinks its hilariously awesome that, if a photon is a unit of light, then in Star Trek, the photon torpedoes are literally weapons of light and electromagnetic energy. Barely any matter, and yet they tear through enemy shields and hulls! Yes, I’m a geek, but come on, isn’t that
cool?!
In “That’s-Why-You-Wait-Til-Finish-Reading”: A team learned the hard way tonight to never be too eager. The runner ran the whole length of the bar before I finished reading the question and had to run all the way back when I read the two point bonus. Patience, young padawan. Patience!
The final proved to be a tough one tonight.
In third place, hanging on after a tough night, the Blue Barracudas! Good game guys!
In second place, Quiz Me Baby One More Time! They nipped at the leader’s heels all night, but never could quite strike.
Taking it down, yet again, the reigning champions: Uncle Jack! These guys mean business here at Markham’s this season; congrats guys!
For their first round category, in a show of good sportsmanship and community, Uncle Jack asked Quiz Me Baby for their opinion on a first round category and took their suggestion of Italian Food! I like that, good show guys! Have fun studying up for Italian Food, and we’ll see you next time!
Until then,
Ian
Monkey La La – Frederick, MD
Any time we have a 5.5 inch OVER UNDER question in the trivia set, it’s an official romp! I’m not being “HYPERBOLIC” when I say that tonight’s trivia match at Monkey La La was some good ole fun – in true La La style!
Thanks to the 12 crews that came on out in the coldness to play a little PHT tonight! Hopefully tonight’s game warmed you up a touch.
We had some fun questions splattered about this evening. Some of my fav’s were:
– Right Said Fred Rogers (even though King Friday gave me nightmares as a child!)
– I mean the 5.5 Inches Question may be one of my faves this season so far!
– Ronald Reagan watching Back to the Future is just good fun!
We even had an impromptu break dancing battle bust out and the ladies of Hi Lo 2 Way Yo and 3QND showed off some fancy footwork. And then there was The Wobble… The photo did not come out unfortunately as my phone (the next big thing) can not apparently be an MP3 player AND a camera all in one breath, but the image will be burned in my mind forever 🙂
Props to our Top 3 Leader Board this evening! Thnigs got a little toasty and shaken up after that Freckleface Strawberry final!
Good work y’all:
Thanks again everyone for coming out to play PHT tonight! Next week, Stink Floyd have invited us to brush up on our “Julianne Moore Films.” That’s how we shall start it off next Tuesday! See you then 🙂 dg
Orioles Nest #331 – Frederick, MD
Oh boy the Nest was packed once again tonight, and we had a game of pub quiz that featured multiple questions where the field was split nearly 50/50 on two different answers, and there were several references to the country of Vietnam. We talked about the war in Vietnam with Agent Orange, what countries border Vietnam, and even had a question on the halftime page about a novel set during the Vietnam War.
Possibly the funniest moment of the night happened in round three for the baseball question. One team handed in an answer slip that said “nobody watches baseball!”, forgetting that the bar they were in was actually called The ORIOLE’S Nest! (I later found out that the name isn’t based on the baseball team, but the name of the company that owns it, but the joke was too easy).
In the end, although many teams were close, and several teams were able to figure out what actress would write about a kid named Freckleface Strawberry, only one team could win. Tonight, that happened to be The Book Club Babes, who always seem to put up a strong performance, this time getting the final question correct to seal the deal. In second place was One Crow Short of a Murder, who seem to be coming in second place a lot lately, something I know they aren’t thrilled about. Third place was Dufresne, Party of Four who finished right behind One Crow, only a point or two back. Next week we start with the BBC series The Fall, a show I will admit I know nothing about, but the Book Club Babes say it is on Netflix and that it is great, so I will take their word for it.
Until next time,
-Chad
Quincy’s South – Rockville, MD
Another week at Quincy’s South, another great game of live trivia by the team calling themselves D and M! They won last week by a significant margin and tonight followed the same pattern!
The closest team this week was 18 points behind which let D and M cruise to the victory with a 0-point wager on the final question. Great win guys. We did have a duo join us at the end of the game, Hang Low, and played pretty well considering they were new and only had a few questions to get the hang of things. Hopefully they’ll be able to join us for the entire duration next time and perhaps give D and M a run for the money? We’ll see! 2nd place went to Stephen Hawking’s School of Dance and 3rd went to the team Gingers DO Have Souls.
Next week we will be starting with a category called Disco Hits so hopefully you all will be out to join us when that happens. Game starts at the same time, here at Quincy’s! We’ll see ya then! Stay classy folks 😉
1st Place: D and M
2nd Place: Stephen Hawking’s School of Dance
3rd Place: Gingers DO Have Souls
Next week’s category: Disco Hits
