A new venue and so much more on Tuesday with Pour House Pub Trivia!

Pour House pub trivia‘s Tuesday added a new venue: The Waterfront, in Alexandria, and kept the summer fling rolling at eight other spots too!

Read on to see how it all went down.

Capitol City Brewing Company – Arlington, VA

At Capitol City Brewing in Arlington, It was the Capital Hillbillies (tonight playing as ‘Rachel Dolezal is the New Black’) who stormed out of the gate with a whopping 93 points at the half!  A couple of speed bumps dropped them into a tie with Gus Polinski and the Kenosha Kickers (old team, new name).  Both teams were guaranteed second place with a zero wager, but it was the Kickers went for that conservative wager (even though they picked up the correct response on the final).  So, there were a few moments of trepidation, but the Kickers held on for the win!  Show Me On the Doll took second for the third week in a row, while the Valley Girls lucked into third.  ~ Matt

Champion Billiards – Frederick, MD

17 teams on this fine Tuesday night! And not a single Canadia-ian! Tough night for tongues, but a very good night for our religious folks!

It was a good one to watch as the teams just kept it coming with the cheering, laughing and finger pointing. When they rolled the final credits thought it was Thundercats in 3rd (Damn you Bride of Frankenstein!) Pulpit Fiction who held on to 2nd and in first were the fine gentlemen (And lady) of Wiser but still Dead!

This summer is shaping up to be a damn good one! We will keep the AC cranked and the Duclaw cold, you just keep coming to see us! Next week we start with an awesome movie: Young Frankenstein. Werewolf. Where wolf?

Young Frankenstein

Cugini’s Restaurant – Poolesville, MD

Second week of Summer Fling and we are just rolling along here at Cugini’s Restaurant in Poolesville. Tonight’s winners went wire to wire in this game, with some very tough competition right on their heels.

Here are your results:

Level 3 Booksellers in 1st

Lightfoot in 2nd

You Talkin’ to Me in 3rd

Our first category for next week is ZOMBIES! Protect your brains!

Hollywood Casino – Perryville, MD

All the teams that were at the Celebrity Bar and Grill last night must have been drinking the smart water or something, because everyone was answering so fast! I think I only had two questions that went to the full time before answers were in, which made for a quick and fun game! Finishing 3rd last night was Three’s Company!

I’m glad this group decided to stick around and play, they only ended up in 2nd! Nice job to School’s Out For Summer!! I’m not sure if this team will ever lose again, your winners, American Outlaws!!! They picked the Philippines Chief, “Lapu-Lapu” for next weeks winners choice (have fun with THAT one boys) so study up, and get back out to Celebrity Bar & Grill next Tuesday!!

Monkey La La – Frederick, MD

Summer Fling is off and running! We had some traveling crews stop out to La La tonight and battle it out with the La La regs for a bit! Fun times all around! Tonight’s set inspired me to take a look at my old stamp collection to see if i had any inverted Jenny stamps lingering in there. As I was contemplating the $3 million stamp, I got to the end of my collection and no dice!

Ehh, maybe I will find one one day. Fingers crossed 🙂

Congrats to our Top 3 tonight, who racked in some extra Summer Fling points. It was a battle that came down to a Frankenstein final! Nice work y’all.

Orioles Nest #331 – Frederick, MD

I know it’s always going to be a fun night whenever I get to sing for the first category. Tonight I had to sing a Barbra Streisand song (whom I know almost nothing about) so I picked a song of hers from Funny Girl, and it seemed to work out fine. We also got to watch the Orioles put on a home run hitting clinic against the Phillies, it was absolutely savage!

I didn’t know IMAX has been around since 1970, which is a pretty neat fact. We also learned the difference between veal and beef, other than the difference in cruelty between them. I also really liked the final question, Frankenstein’s monster being referred to in the credits as ?? is pretty neat.

Tonight’s game ended up with a three-way tie between a few different teams for third leading up to the final question. However, avoiding the tiebreaker and taking third was The Three Stooges, nailing the final question. In second place was One Crow Short of a Murder with some strategic wafering. Tonight’s overall victory, however, went to the Smarty Pants who started out red hot and carried that momentum all the way through.

Next week we start out with the U.S. Constitution (I won’t be singing it) so I hope I’ll see you all then!

Until next time,
-Chad

Tilted Kilt – Frederick, MD

The Kilt was loud and busy as we played another week into Summer Fling 2015, with some elite teams facing off to claim those points. With no House Championship to work towards and defend, it’s anyone’s game to win each week!

We learned about everyone’s favorite fruit, the avocado, as well as the may spinoff shows of the Mary Tyler Moore Show and all the songs named, “Stay.” As the night progressed, a clear front runner emerged, with the remaining teams vying for second and third.

After a tough final, only The Duchess emerged with a correct answer, and a huge 167 points. Second went to FnQ, and third went to a new team, Shanar. See everyone back here next, when the first category will be Things No One Knows. No one? Have they met our writers??

The Waterfront – Alexandria, VA

It was a great night on the Old Town Waterfront! Tuesday marked the first Pour House Trivia Night at the Waterfront Cafe and Market, and it was awesome!

Teams enjoyed an audio clue that turned into tone deaf karaoke and great happy hour specials. With a competitive game that ended with two teams in a TIE at the end of round 4, it came down to the wire requiring some defensive wagering. “We Came For the Beer” hung on for its first ever victory and the appropriately named “Charlie and the Torpedo Factory” came in at a close second.

As the summer gains momentum, and the need to be near the water makes staring at the clock from your cubicle seem endless, we hope to see more of you at Alexandria’s Waterfront Cafe each Tuesday at 7pm!

Quincy’s South – Rockville, MD

Tonight has continued the trend of the RAGERS at Quincy’s, as we had a PACKED HOUSE TONIGHT for trivia. Team numbers in the double digits, a good mix of regulars AND newcomers. Hope to see everyone back next week, so good to see everyone devoted to the craft that makes up a majority of my life, it truly means a lot! So thanks to you guys for making this happen!

Tonight’s game saw a battle of juggernauts as a handful of veterans duked it out for the top place! Tonight’s question of the night honors go out to the INVERTED JENNY et al with the answer of Postage Stamps! Inverted Jenny was the upside-down airplane famously portrayed on a discontinued stamp, now worth a ton of CASH $$$! It’s the only one I’d heard of but evidently there are a few famous ones to know. I had about 3 teams pick up points on that one, an interesting way to wrap up the first half! Going into the half, last week’s winners, Catching Planes, trailed Uncle Jack by a few to hold 2nd place, while 3rd was rounded out by a strong showing by Bazinga! The next half of the game was not kind to a lot of our teams as the places got mixed up a bit. Uncle Jack dropped to 3rd going into the final question, with Bazinga in 2nd and Catching Planes moved into the lead.

The final played CRUCIAL TONIGHT, and with 3 correct responses on the final, here’s how the game wound up. 3rd place went to Catching Planes, who played GREAT all game but couldn’t lock the final down to make it 2 in a row! 2nd place, a little jump from behind, goes to The Big Fact Hunt, with a correct response on the final! And your winners tonight: they led at the half, stumbled a bit, but brought it back when it mattered, give it up for UNCLE JACK! What a game, what a game! We’re back next week with more trivia action! The summer is HOT but our bar is even HOTTER! See ya then 😉

1st Place: Uncle Jack
2nd Place: The Big Fact Hunt
3rd Place: Catching Planes
