Check out how all the games went down, y’all.

Applebees – Frederick, MD

Tonight we started out with one of the more bizarre winner choices for our opening category. The first category was about an extremely short-lived show, Cop Rock, which is described as one of the worst TV shows of all time and was a musical cop drama. That honestly does sound like the worst thing ever, but apparently Randy Newman did the theme song for the show, which was (I can only assume) the only bright spot on the show. After getting past that question we moved on to a question about Presidents whose names ended with ‘son’ which apparently is almost all of them. Fun questions about Eeyore and Buffy the Vampire Slayer were after that, then a question about rugby and the fact that one version of it has 15 players per team, which is a ton of people.

The second round started with the usual audio question, this time about a common bond in song titles (NOT chemistry or James Bond songs) which was a fun one, with the whole bar rocking out to some Vanessa Williams! After that we had a question about tubers, which I’m pretty confident was written solely for the reason that I and the other hosts could make a ‘hardly know her!’ joke. I liked the literature question about WWII novels that have numbers in them, with most teams forgetting about Slaughterhouse-Five, which was set during the Dresden bombings in WWII. The other book, Catch-22, was something I read in high school and absolutely loved; that book is really funny. Now on halftime the themes were movies that combine live action and animation, and to match college football players and their alma maters (even Burt Reynolds, who apparently played college football).

After halftime we had a change a letter question that confused some teams, because the definition of human actually refers to any member of the genus homo, although most don’t think of homo erectrus, homo habilis, etc. as human as well. So with that confusion, some teams were still able to get to human, and then to Hunan. Name that year was a tougher one too, with most teams guessing too late on the year that Mussolini rose to power, the year Jack Dempsey won the boxing title, and the National Prohibition Act was passed. Also, the question about chutes and ladders was confusing to me because I don’t think I’ve ever played chutes and ladders, only snakes and ladders. Then we had a nervous system question, which actually got a cheer from the crowd, asking about the olfactory nerves in our noses. Then the EOD question finished up the round, asking about the EOD squad in The Hurt Locker and what it stands for.

The final round started out with a question about that crazy leak coming from Ashley Madison getting hacked and all the cheaters getting exposed. The slogan for the site is ridiculous and I was surprised so many teams knew it immediately (Life is short. Have an affair). I’ve never even heard of Carmen Miranda but a few teams knew who she was. The next question asked about a supervillain named Oroku Saki, which most teams were able to figure out was The Shredder, which made me happy. After that, however, came a question about the band Chevelle, which I guess most teams have never heard of. I happen to love Chevelle, so that was a bit of a bummer. We then finished out the rounds with a question about the soap box derby, which a few teams got.

The final question seemed almost too easy, in a question about World Cities they mentioned Ireland and almost every single team locked into the capital of Ireland, Dublin. Unfortunately that answer was wrong, and nobody put down Belfast as the correct answer, so there was almost no movement in the scores. However, there WAS a tie between second and third place, so we broke it by having them guess the amount of money Ashley Madison is being sued for due to the information leak. With that, third place tonight went to the Carolina Reapers, who were a bit off on their guess. With a closer guess on the tiebreaker, however, was BTF who take down second place, nice work! Winning tonight’s game is The Nation of Quizlam, who held a lead pretty much throughout the entire game, congrats! Next week we start with a question about Xerox Equipment, so study up – somehow. Either way I will see you all again next week!

Until next time,
-Chad

At one end it was Eeyore’s “Gloomy Little Instruction Book.” At the other it was “Ashley Madison” and their scrupulous endeavor to change the world! In between was about 40 questions or so that titillated and tantalized the fine trivia playing folks of Hagerstown, MD for a couple hours. Personally, I am an Eeyore fan, even with all the doom and gloom!

Doom and Gloom, however, can only get better. And that it did! The game was extra close all night long and was not decided until the final Q! And in spite of a collection of great questions, my favorite ANSWER OF THE NIGHT: The Soap Box Derby! I have added another item to my bucket list – well that and storm chasing!

Congrats to our Hump Day Top 3

We have ONE MORE WEEK of Summer Fling and then we kick off Season 12 on the following Wednesday. Join us for the Summer Fling finale where we begin with a question about “Cats,” as in the animal – not the play 🙂

Thanks for playing everyone! See you soon 🙂

Belles’ Sports Bar – Frederick, MD

So many thanks to Belles for giving us a new night! My Wednesday night teams are no longer homeless and were very excited to have enough space, fast food and cold drinks. It was great to have everyone back tonight! I have missed the laughter, the cheers- the slow dancing was new though – nice touch. 🙂

After a good game with some rather interesting wagering on the final it was Shirts vs Blouses who started out our podium with a 3rd, Team Wednesday with a solid 2nd and Constantly Changing Team Name with the 1st place spot! They were quite pleased to not only grab the top spot but they netted themselves the $50 dollar cash money prize!

It is not my fault if Justin lost the money in his cast – it was first time I have seen a stripper on crutches! Next week we will start out with Famous 2nd places! Can’t wait to see what the hell our writers come up with on that one!

A room full of veterans is truly a blast to be around as a PHT host. Felt so comfortable because I knew everyone, I could just be myself! Sharing stories, making fun of you guys, giving you fun facts. I apologize to the few of you I annoyed but I feel like the majority of us had a good time and I thank you guys for that! Makes my job so rewarding when I have just as much fun as you guys that are playing! Tonight was great. All our teams tonight have been playing all summer season so hopefully a week from today I’ll have Summer Fling Tournament invites for you all! Check out the website to see if you’re qualifying. Tonight’s game earned points for everyone as well, including extra points for our top 3 finishers! After the final there was a TIE for 2nd place between Knock Knock and Just the Tip. Knock Knock squeaked it out by a small, small margin on the “closest to” question, earning them the 2nd place finish! Winning tonight was the Stray Cats, winning 2 in a row now, beginning a new win streak. These guys seem like the team to beat here in Clarksburg! Come back next week to take them down! Don’t want them to get their heads too big now, do we? 😉

1st Place: Stray Cats
2nd Place: Knock Knock
3rd Place: Just the Tip

Next week’s category: 80s Country Music

Memories Charcoal House – Mount Airy, MD

Another rowdy evening at Memories Charcoal House in Mt. Airy tonight! We packed the house yet again with some hungry brains, and even had a 3-way tie for second place going into the second half! In our last two rounds there was definitely some leap-frogging going on, but as with many nights before, it all came down to the strategic final wagers…. for the second week in a row, the Men & Pausers took home our third place prize, well done!! In second, just three points ahead of them were the ferocious Hobgoblins!! But our top-dogs of the night, jumping through the ranks after halftime, the one and only MOOPS!! Their choice of first category next week? American Folk Music

I will NOT be here next week, I’ll be away on business, but the lovely Matt Frost will be filling in for me. I’ll see you in 2 weeks!!

The Olney Tavern – Olney, MD

Another great game of trivia is in the books from The Tavern. We had a good turnout of teams last night and an exciting finish also! I had to stop our 3rd place team from leaving, because they had no idea that they had won, nice one Olney The Lonely!

With a nice second half comeback to move up to 2nd was Team Gryffindor! With a 1st place finish for a second week In a row we had John Lithgow’s Fan Club!! They picked “Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers Films” for next Wednesday’s winner’s choice, so study up and we’ll see everyone next week at The Tavern!!

We had a nice night of Pour House Trivia at the Revolution Bar
tonight. Veteran teams battled it out for some late summer fling
points.

Highlights of the Night:

In “I-Refuse-To-Say-It”: The winner’s choice category today was the
Scottish Play. I refuse to say it’s name. Hands down. Last time I said
it over the mic, things started to happen, and didn’t stop until I did
the counter-jinx. It’s a thing. I don’t care what you think!

In “Team-Spike”: Everyone who got the bonus points for the love
triangle question put down David Boreanaz. Am I the only person who’s
Team Spike around here?? James Marsters was the man!

In “Coin-Flip-Finals”: Sugar coat it all you wants, at the end of the
game it came down to a coin flip of Dublin or Belfast. Who would pick
correctly? It would prove crucial!
In third place tonight, GT80 Sauce!

In second place tonight, The Green Machine!

In first place tonight, Mess and Jegg!
We’re gonna start things off with some Faux Pas next week, so try not
to commit any!

Until then,
Ian

Valley Grill – Middletown, MD

Crazy night there towards the end when you have a tie with a blown tie-breaker question! Anywho, it was a great game nonetheless out here at VG, and everyone walked away happy! Here are your results:

Stupid Sexy Flanders in 1st
Suck It Trebek in 2nd
Drunk Savants in 3rd

Our first category for next week is a Triple 50/50: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson or and Actual Rock.
