A Maniacal Night of Thursday Trivia!

More than half of our Thursday night venues welcomed at least ten teams, leading to a sizable field of 122 teams across 15 venues:

We opened Thursday’s game with a look at this all-American buffet:

Clemson White House

After asking a Three Clues question concerning the rooster, we quizzed our teams about the Colorado River, but NOT the one that flows through the Grand Canyon.  Many of our teams were surprised to learn that there is ANOTHER Colorado River which flows entirely within the state of Texas, most notably through the city of Austin:

Austin Texas

Nine teams began their night with a perfect first round score.

Thursday’s audio question featured three songs which share the one-word title of “Hello”.  We grabbed a pint of Guinness before asking the most difficult bonus question of the night.  After most of our teams earned wagering points on a question regarding the planet Uranus, only seven teams tacked on two bonus points by also knowing that the planet was discovered by astronomer William Herschel.  Later, we honored the achievements of this late baseball legend:

Frank Robinson

Thanks to an astronomically difficult bonus question, the second round did not yield any perfect scores.

Thursday’s halftime page featured the topics of TV animals and March Madness.  The overall average reached 17.2 points, as seven teams recorded a perfect score of 20 points.  These were your highest scoring first half teams from Thursday night:

After opening the second half with a three-part question concerning former currencies used by members of the European Union, we moved on to a discussion of this recent Netflix series:

Maniac Jonah Hill Emma Stone

Just over half of the field picked up wagering points by recognizing the plot of the series “Maniac”, but only nine teams added bonus points by knowing that the series was directed by Cary Fukunaga.  Despite closing the third round with a relatively easier question regarding the world’s most famous egg, none of our teams posted a perfect score of 36 points in the third round.

Final round topics included glucose, the entries in the “Dune” novel series, and this island:

After closing the fourth round with a Triple 50/50 question about album covers, we saw four teams sweep the final stanza: Singing Inferno (Smoketown), I Am Groot (Belly Love), 50 Shades of Grey Matter (Dawg House), HTB Crew (Art’s Tavern).  These were your highest scoring Thursday teams after four rounds of play:

THURSDAY’S FINAL QUESTION (59.3% success rate):

–> Which 20th century play ends with Linda saying: “I can’t understand it. I made the last payment on the house today.  Today, dear.  And there’ll be nobody home.  We’re free and clear.  We’re free.  We’re free…  We’re free…”?

About three-fifths of the field responded correctly with “Death of a Salesman”.  Congratulations to Crazy Cat People (The Derby) and Uranus Fly Trap (Smoketown), who each snagged the Perfect 21 by answering all wagering questions correctly.  Here is Thursday’s final leaderboard:

Honorable mentions go out to Transplants (Fish Market) and Washington Foreskins (Bunker), who respectively posted 171 and 165 points while playing ‘over the limit’.
