A heck of a Ravens game on Thursday, and some great Pour House Pub Trivia too!

Pour House pub trivia’s Thursday shared space with that down-to-the-wire Ravens-Steelers game – man what a finish!

Of course, trivia was great too – read on to see how it all went down.

The Blue Parrott – St. Petersburg Beach, Florida

What an amazingly close match yesterday. It came down to the last final. The Quizknows were in first with 135 points, with The Team not far behind them. It all came down to the wagering. The Wonks were the only team to get the correct answer, jumping from fourth place to first, ending with 133 points.

Next week’s Winner’s Choice Category is 2015 NFL Season.

Champion Billiards – Frederick, MD

Oh mylanta! Football, again?? You better believe it was a quick game for us when it was the Steelers and Ravens squaring off tonight. I’m entertaining, but there’s no way I’m that entertaining. The sea of jerseys wielded some damn fine minds and we had a good field of teams battling both the scoreboard and the clock tonight.

So scream queens wearing buffoons and singing happy birthday wouldn’t distract us form Vitrifiers, with each reading of the scores the triumphant hands went up in the air and celebrations were had. They just wouldn’t quit. Sad fat dragons gave it the old college try and were in 2nd at the halftime with the top puzzle score and managed to tie it up by the 4th round but in competition this tough there is no room for error and when they missed a bonus they opened it up for the Vitrifers to take it all the way home. Which they did 😉

After a tough final it was a tiebreaker for 3rd between Sad fat Dragons and Stormy Bongos- apparently Dragons don’t have much time for monopoly and they gave way to the Bongo adventure to take 3rd. 2nd went to Just Good Enough- they were in 5th going in to the final, but they managed to find the specific word we needed and rocked it on to the podium. Vitrifiers took that 1st place though, with a correct answer on the final that they didn’t even need. Impressive.

Next week I will see you all for a football (somewhat) free night and we will start out with Women in the Bible.

Fish Market – Alexandria, Virginia

A huge thanks for those of you who bested the weather tonight to come join us for Thursday night PHT! We had a decent-sized crowd despite the violent change in the atmosphere that tried its damnedest to keep us away, which I am grateful for! We started the game with double digit numbers but due to weather, football, alcohol, and other variants, a few teams were down and out before the final question. A shout out to those teams who were able to stick it out with us through the entire game, and they were rewarded with prize money, hugs, photos, and some good ole PHT love! Thanks again!

We had a few questions that played fairly difficult tonight though I don’t think any one question completely wiped the field. A few of the stunners tonight include the “Soul Man” audio question, with only 1 team picking up bonus points knowing that the duo who originated this tune was Sam & Dave, who also are known for their hit “Hold On! I’m Comin’!”, one of my personal favorites! We also had some trouble with the Single-Letter Answers; I did enjoy the “SPELLING COUNTS” touch that the other writers through in on that one! Pretty funny, hehe. Only a few teams able to come through with all 3 of those correct. A large number of teams coming up with the F major key scale given the “E” on the 7th (no idea if what I’m saying is correct or not, just basing this on what I remember from the question ha! Music Theory is NOT my bag!) All in all, a good, challenging night!

Going into the final we saw our out-of-towners, Intangible Assets, in 1st place with bar favorite 2 Birds One Stone and Team Suck Zone rounding out the top 3. The final would determine the final placements. Intangible Assets unfortunately missed the last question of the game, dropping them out of the top 3… With that, here are your finishers! 3rd place going to You’re Killing Me Smalls, 2nd place Team Suck Zone and winning tonight, as a duo (the majority of their team out for tonight), 2 Birds One Stone! Great game! Back in a week, I’ll see ya then! More season 12 to come!

1st Place: 2 Birds One Stone
2nd Place: Team Suck Zone
3rd Place: You’re Killing Me Smalls

Next week: Famous Duos

Guido’s – Frederick, MD

Thursday night at Guido’s was a smidge intense. Not so much for an overabundance of teams, but for a huge crowd for that CRAZY Ravens/Steelers game! In 3rd was Here But Not There! In 2nd was Friends of Dick Johnson!! With their third 1st place finish in a row, Bongo Sluts killed it! Their pick for next Thursdays winners choice, the Adult Swim show “Rick and Morty”! I’ll see everyone next week at Guido’s Speakeasy!!   ~Jon J

Lake Linganore Association – New Market, MD

Hurricane be damned, we need to get out and play trivia! We slogged through mud, rain, and traffic to come together and engage in our weekly ritual involving questions about pink fairy armadillos drinking Amstel Lights with Mel Gibson (and waiting for him to come up with some offensive slur for armadillos), what counts as “football” (seriously America, that’s lazy writing), and singing Cole Porter songs with Fox News hosts (while they discuss what counts as a fact).

After a tense finale that could’ve gone any number of ways, Faking Bad rose to the occasion and took the top spot while Sloppy Seconds lived up to their name and Polys rounded out third. Join us next week as we journey into a galaxy far far away – next week’s winners’ choice category is Star Wars! Have fun doing your research, and enjoy this relevant video:

Main Street Oyster House -Bel Air, MD

Did the cup chicks maintain their hold on first place? Were they unseated by a rival team? What happen tonight at Main Street Oyster house?

There was no shortage of rivalry tonight as the cup chicks got knocked down to 3rd place, allowing 10 years to secure 2nd place as a solo team, and El Bocca to take 1st place with 114 points. That final question was a doozy I do have to say! Next week brush up on your science because we will be discussing the periodic table.

Quincy’s – Gaithersburg, Maryland

Another packed house trying to squeeze in a quick game of trivia at Quincy’s in Gaithersburg.  We didn’t have to go quite as fast as last week, but 15 teams still kept up a good pace.  The game got off to a very interesting start on the Three Clues / One Country question, when the last clue about the answer not having an official language tossed a few teams for a loop when the answer was revealed to be the USA!  Thing got even more interesting on the audio question, with a lot of teams under the (false) impression that the Blues Brothers were the original group to sing “Soul Man”.  So, scores were a bit lower than average for most of our teams, except for our resident juggernaut Lowered Expectations, they cruised through four rounds, and only had to make a small wager on the final question, so they held on to the win even without the correct response.  Second place went to Smella Nella with Nasty Neutrons in third.  A shout out to fourth place team Short Bus, as they were the ONLY team to get the correct response on the final.  Next week we begin with a question on Ancient Greek Drama.  ~ Matt
