A Countdown to Two Great Trivia Nights!
With just three weeks to go until World Series XIV, our weekend teams were in peak form. Many of our Saturday and Sunday teams will be in the mix when the big money is doled out on January 29th at Hager Hall. Hopefully, they have their full squads ready to go! Let’s take a look at our top scores and performances from the first full weekend of 2017:
WEEKEND STATS AND FACTS (19 teams across four venues):
–> Highest Overall Score: What Else Could It Be!? (Captain Benders) with 172
–> Highest Score after Round 4: What Else Could It Be!? (Captain Benders) with 162
–> Highest First Half Score: What Else Could It Be!? (Captain Benders) with 88
–> Perfect 21 (correct on all wagering questions and final): What Else Could It Be!? (Captain Benders)
–> Our halftime rounds both played fairly easy, with an average of 18.1 on Saturday and 18.6 on Sunday. In each case, about half of our teams scored a perfect 20.
SATURDAY’S FINAL QUESTION (41.3% success rate):
–> Florida’s Brevard County is home to Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center. In the year 2000, when the northern part of the county was to be assigned a second area code, a local petition led to the adoption of which number?
SUNDAY’S FINAL QUESTION (60.0% success rate):
–> Introduced to TV viewers in October 1984, which character appeared on the small screen for twenty seasons, tying the record for the longest-running live-action character on prime-time American television? (you’ll find the answers later in this blog)
So we had ourselves a two week hiatus here at Belles’ Sports Bar due to Christmas and New Year’s both falling on a Saturday, but here we are back in 2017 with nine teams playing to boot! Our first round went pretty quickly as these folks navigated through some essential nutrients, mountain ranges, and 2016 film subtitles. Round two put a spaghetti western spin on the audio clue followed up with some sunscreen, Al Gore, Martha Stewart, and Al Gore.
We turned the music to 11 and did some ballet moves in round three, while in the final round we played a MMORPG while singing some whale songs. I hope you all had a good set of holidays, and remember we are handing out playoff invitations next Saturday. Only a few teams were able to come up with the correct response of ‘321’ on our final question, which led to a bit of a shift in the standings. Here are the final results:
First Place: Uncle Jack
Second Place: What’s Our Name?
Third Place: Smarty Pants
Next week’s first category: Boston Red Sox
It was nice to be back at Pretzel & Pizza Creations for trivia on Saturday night! The game was certainly fun to see as a new team was killing it almost the entire game. The final question even had one of those final question “mix ups to the top three” type finishes! Moving up into 3rd was the Off Beats, 2nd went to Give Us Your Beer Money, and playing a GREAT game for the 1st place win was Cobras!! They picked the video game “Undertale” as next weeks winners choice, so study up and I’ll see everyone next Saturday at Pretzel & Pizza Creations!!

Thanks for making my first night at Captain Benders a welcome one! With all of our regular teams duking it out, the game was incredibly close. The two teams in the lead the entire game, What Else Could It Be? and Fisted Sister, were never more than three points apart. In the end, the final question shifted our standings a bit, leading to these top scores:
First Place: What Else Could It Be!?
Second Place: Fisted Sister
Third Place: Boh’s and Hoes
Next week’s first category: World Geography
On Sunday night at the Beacon in Frederick, we witnessed a dominating victory by the team that claimed the title of Season XIV Hosue Champions! Just to let you know what I mean by “dominating”‘ by the time we reached the final question, they had a 35 point lead! Finishing 3rd was the Redheads, 2nd went to Solo Traveler, and a HUGE 1st place victory for the Witiots!! They chose “Vice Presidential History” for next week’s winners choice category, so study up come join us next Sunday at The Beacon!!
