A Cinderella Story of Monday Trivia!

Monday’s game of Pour House Trivia welcomed 98 teams across 11 venues.

FIRST ROUND:

Opening round topics from Monday night included the Java programming language, Vice Presidential candidates, and this thriller film directed by Martin Scorsese:

This final question about “Shutter Island” included the most difficult bonus question of the first half, as only four teams knew that this film was based on the work of author Dennis Lehane.  Thanks to that correct response, each of those four teams completed a perfect first round: Killer Snails (Hershey’s), Kitten Mittens (Cheesetique), Magnificent Seven (Rockwell), and Outdoor Alcoholics (Flanagan’s).

SECOND ROUND:

We listened to a few musical ‘numbers’ in Monday’s audio clue, before moving on to a question about this recent addition to the Summer Olympics:

Other second round topics included Pepperdine University and the TV series “24”, each of which featured another difficult bonus question, respectively asking for the athletic nickname of Pepperdine University (Waves) and the fictional female U.S. President from “24” (Allison Taylor).  With each bonus question yielding a success rate of under 10%, none of our Monday teams earned a perfect second round score.

HALFTIME:

Monday’s halftime page quizzed our teams on the topics of debut album covers and the 600 home run club.  Though several teams scored 19 points, none of our Monday squads managed to post a perfect score, as the overall average reached a rather low 14.3 points.  Here is Monday’s halftime leaderboard:

THIRD ROUND:

Monday’s second half opened with the nightly Three Clues question concerning the Philippines.  We also looked at the literary work that inspired this Looney Tunes short:

Other third round topics included Broadway musicals, Ukrainian politics, and the Jay-Z song “The Story of O.J.”.  Fittingly, the third round was by far the most difficult of the night.  The average success rate on the five wagering questions reached just 57%, with none of our teams recording a perfect score of 36 points.

FOURTH ROUND:

Monday’s final round included questions concerning sulfur, the Bay of Pigs invasion, and these two quarterbacks:

After struggling through several difficult rounds, our teams rolled through the final stanza, as 17% of our teams ran the table with 36 points.  Here are your highest scoring teams heading into Monday’s final question:

  • MC (Il Forno):  157
  • George Washington’s Camel (DRP):  157
  • MAJ (DRP):  157
  • Killer Snails (Hershey’s):  153
  • Ask Jeeves ():  152

MONDAY’S FINAL QUESTION (63.7% success rate):

–> Currently in his 60s, which actor has earned four Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor in a Comedy Film, for portraying characters named Peter, Bob, Franklin, and Vincent?

Just under two-thirds of our teams responded correctly with Bill Murray, who portrayed Peter Venkman in “Ghostbusters”, Bob Harris in “Lost in Translation”, Franklin Roosevelt in “Hyde Park on Hudson” and the title character in “St. Vincent”.  Congratulations to H. R. Puff ‘N’ Stuff (DRP), Power Vacuum (Bushwaller’s), and MC (Il Forno), who each earned the Perfect 21 on Monday by answering every wagering question correctly.  Here is Monday’s final overall leaderboard:
