With 17 teams packing the house tonight at Quincy’s, climbing to the top of the leaderboard was more difficult than ever. Rebounding from a true heartbreaker last week, Lowered Expectations was able to distance themselves from the pack to take down first place. Suck it Frosty (an elegant yet outdated team name) came within striking distance but ended up in 2nd place, and Captain Awesome and the Wonderfriends sniped the final question and snuck into 3rd place at the buzzer!
The biggest swing of the night occurred at the 6-4-2, where 7 teams swung and missed on the 6-pointer. While the term ‘Black Tuesday‘ is closely associated with the Wall Street Crash of 1929, the crash began on ‘Black Thursday‘, October 24th. In my opinion, that historian could have been a little more creative with his day-naming.
A huge shout-out to Team Mystic, The Highest of Fives, Too Close for Missiles, and Poop for Brains for joining us for the first time this season. It was great to see new faces and I hope you make it out next Thursday!
Lowered Expectations has selected the ancient art of Proctology as your winner’s choice category for next week. I suggest the use of Google Images to study up – as they say, curiosity killed the cat, but proctology brought him back.
The good, the bad and the just delightful! A great crew in Champions tonight as veterans looking for some solid Summer Fling action matched wits against new comers with more enthusiasm than attention span 😉 Some nail-biters tonight- but it was that 246 which laid a path of destruction! Man, oh man.. Recovered well though and after the final (and some good pranking of my boss, I got a wth pone call) it was Dammit Bobby in 3rd! 2nd went to Smartie Pants and in 1st it was the team from across the mountain, Rice Rice Baby! Love it! Next week is Clint Howard Films to start us off. See you then!
Great night of trivia once again here at Bunker in Leesburg! We had an interesting game tonight, with a 1st place team that didn’t need to wager on the final, and three teams tied for 2nd & 3rd. Here are the results after the tiebreaker:
Cake or Death in 1st
Cranius Maximus in 2nd
Indians in 3rd
Our first category for next week is “Gone With the Wind” ~ Ronnie
What a BIG night at the Blue Parrot! Big Bang as Winner’s Choice, and a BIG BIG Picture Round! Not only that! Your very own Blue Parrot is a POKESTOP!!!! Yes, I will be restocking Pokeballs all night from here on out! JK! Anyway, an exciting night, 5 teams competing for the BIG Blue Parrot prizes at the end! After the first round, we had a 3 way tie between 5 Birds and a Pecker, Romeo’s Revenge, and the Quizknows. Quizknows and Romeo’s Revenge kept the heat on with the first place spots after the picture round! Romeo’s Revenge pulled away by 1 point going into the final. But it was the new team, HARPER, who stole the show! 4th place all night, with a competitve wager, they pulled out 2nd place against Romeo’s Revenge. Quizknows got back 1st with a strategic wager and correct answer. Thanks to all who played tonight!
Cup Chicks Cup Chicks Cup Chicks lead the way all throughout the game, but that final question got them where it hurts. Whatever’s Clever game up from behind to steal the first place slot. Boogie friends boogied into 2nd, and Cup Chicks took the third place slot like true players. Never a dull moment at Main Street. Next week get ready for Anime cause it’s happening!
Seems like the whole week is just here so we have time to kill until THURSDAY NIGHT! Fish Market is CLEARLY the place to be based on the weekly turnout for trivia nights! Tonight was no different as we saw a HUGE number of teams competing tonight.
Last week, Uncle Jack paid us a visit but it was a one time thing, so they handed off their Winner’s Choice to Atomic Dogs, the 2nd place finishers. Atomic Dogs are a relatively new team but they are quite the competitors. 2nd place last week and tonight they looked to win. Even more impressive, they are a duo! Duos have a track record of doing well at Fish Market; last season’s House Champs were Ant Farm Keyboard, who’ve been away a bit this summer but we fully expect a return soon.
Tonight’s Question of the Night was the 6-4-2 question. The 6 point clue is ALWAYS meant to either be tricky or difficult and perhaps tonight was a bit of a combination of the two. We asked about the day October 24th, 1929. It was the first day of the Stock Market Crash. Though most people associate the crash with October 29th, “Black Tuesday“, the 24th was officially the FIRST day. Despite that, many teams going early with “Tuesday” as opposed to “Thursday“; obviously the question was meant to entice wrong answers but I’d never have expected the result! Almost 10 teams missed the 6 point clue! A congratulations to Matt Frost Gave Us the Answers, being the only team to get the 6 correct.
Going into the final, Saint Olaf and Atomic Dogs were tied at #1! The obvious play if you’re tied in 1st is to bet the farm (no sarcasm intended). Both teams followed this advice, both teams got the final correct, so we had a sudden death tie breaker FOR THE WIN! Closest to Peru’s population was the winner tonight…. Dogs said 17 million, Olaf said 80 million. Actual #: ~31 million people meaning ATOMIC DOGS take down a win as a duo against a field of almost 15 teams! Outrageous.Sick finish guys, we’ll see you next week as you defend that win! Until then 😉
Thursdays game at Guido’s Speakeasy was a good one! We had a nice group of teams out for the game so there was a great battle going on for the coveted top 3 spots, but after everyone’s answer to the final question was scored, this is how it looked… finishing in 3rd was Aerosmith + 1, going with a zero wager which didn’t work out this time so they finished 2nd was Friends of Dick Johnson, and moving up into 1st (which they haven’t been in for a little while now) was Meth, Maybe Once!! They love picking weird/funny winners choice categories (I believe their last one was Bea Aurthor’s Rack), so next week our first question will be “I’ve Got Science in My Pants”. So study up and come have some laughs and fun with us next Thursday at Guido’s Speakeasy!! ~ Jon J
