Thursday night Pour House Trivia Recap!

Pour House pub trivia’s Thursday WAS A BLAST – EVEN IF TECHIE issues kept us from blogging!

But we are straight now and here are some of the re-caps that made it through cyber-craziness!

The Blue Parrott – St. Petersburg Beach, Florida

When the sun goes down, the party begins at the Blue Parrott! The teams tonight were face paced, fighting for that first place grand prize of $25. At half time, Quizknows had the lead with 64 points, closely followed by Charlie’s Angels with 60 points. Quizknows stole the show, gaining 10 points on Charlie’s Angels. It was still anybody’s game going into the final. The Quizknow’s pulled it out though, with the only correct answer. Charlie’s Angels remained in second, and The Team ended in third. Quizknows chose the category of The Betty Fox Band, a local Blues band. (

Bunkers – Leesburg, Virginia

Who’d of thunk it, AC needed in November, as it was a hot one down here at Bunker in Leesburg! Welcome back to the top slot as The Indians played a sharply wagered game to take down first. It took a tie breaker to settle 2nd and 3rd. Hereare the results of tonight’s action:The Indians in 1stCranius Maximus in 2ndYour Mom in 3rdOur first category for next week is “The Big 10 Conference” ~ Ronnie

Champion Billiards – Frederick, MD

Oh yes, I got the opportunity to fill in at my Thursday night trivia spot! And it was indeed a romp! 14 teams showed up to contest a lil pub trivia loot! We got do discuss the finer nuances between archaeology, anthropology and paleantology! But I mean, seriously, over a few beers there’s not a whole lot that gets better than that! Bones, bones, and more bones, with a few artifacts tossed in to boot.

Good times everyone! Thank you for coming out and playing. It was such a beautiful night, I do appreciate you spending it with Pour House Trivia.

How bout dat game? Man it was close the whole way! A few teams jockeyed for that top slot going into the final. After some goulash and a bar wide whooping crane impression we had our final question locked and loaded. And BOOM…a science final reared its head! Some were happy and some game me the anti-Care Bear Stare!

And it was knowing a smidge about Mercury and Bromine for the win! Great game everyone! Congrats to our Top 3:

Thanks again everyone for coming out. Tune in next week when we kick off with “Samantha Sings 90’s Rap!” -Oh yes…this is gonna happen! I might pop in just to see this! 🙂

Fish Market – Alexandria, Virginia

We’ve entered November and the weather has been fairly kind to us as of late. November is a special month here at the Fish Market, as this month marks our anniversary of starting trivia at this great li’l venue! I believe in 2 or 3 weeks it will be the start of our 3rd year here. A bit strange to think it’s been that long but good to know we’re still going strong!

Tonight’s game brought back most of our veteran teams which was good to see. The game was very competitive among the top spots for this reason. We even have a new team that’s been playing with us the last 2 weeks which have been making a case that they are going to be one with the competition here, and they did not disappoint. Last week Faulkner? I Hardly Know Her finished 3rd, a top 3 finish in their trivia debut. Not too shabby I’d say. Tonight would be a true test as veteran teams Welcome to You’re Doom, You’re Killing Me Smalls, 2 Birds One Stone, and Biggus Dickus came out to play. Finishing in the top 3 among this crowd would be quite the accomplishment.
Tonight’s question of the night goes to our Modern Board Game question. Sure, most people know the classics: Monopoly, Scrabble, Pictionary, Life. Candyland. You know, the ones that came out like 50 years ago and beyond. But there is a huge market nowadays for people buying new board games that, in my opinion, go far beyond the complexities and structure of the board games that you knew when you were kids. To name a few Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, 7 Wonders, Dominion, Small World. One other game to fit into the category is the cooperative game Pandemic, which came out a bit under 10 years ago. This was the question was asked about tonight. You and your team attempt to rid the world of 4 diseases spreading throughout the continents before time is too late and everyone gets sick. A fun game with teamwork, a bit of luck, and a lot of being able to adjust to circumstances, this game won the Game of the Year Award in 2009. Despite this, only 3 teams were able to name that game, perhaps based on the desire to stick with the classics. Modern board games are a growing industry and I recommend them to all.
Going into the final, our core 5 teams were all within a few points of each other but it was Welcome to You’re Doom, our fearsome trivia duo, who led the pack. The final played fairly easy for the field tonight so our final standings were pretty set in place before that question was revealed. 3rd place went to Faulkner? who for two weeks in a row now have finished in the top 3 spots. 2nd place went to 2 Birds One Stone and your winners are Welcome to You’re Doom. Great game tonight, back in a week! Hope you’ll come out and join us!
1st Place:     Welcome to You’re Doom
2nd Place:    2 Birds One Stone
3rd Place:     Faulkner? I Hardly Know Her
Next week:     World War I

Guido’s – Frederick, MD

IWe had a CRAZY surprise ending to last nights game of trivia at Guido’s Speakeasy!! There was a handful of new teams that decided to play last night which made the competition really tough and exciting to watch unfold, but it was once again, the final question which threw a monkey wrench in one teams quest for an 8th victory in a row! Dropping from 1st to 3rd last night ended the impressive run for Bongo Sluts! Moving up into 2nd after the final was one of those new teams I mentioned earlier, The Blue House!! Moving up to the coveted 1st place victory seat, I would like to welcome back T.N.C.!! They decided on “Music Theory” for next weeks winners choice category, so study up, and come join the party next Thursday night at Guido’s Speakeasy!!!  ~  Jon J

Main Street Oyster House -Bel Air, MD

For the second week in a row In Bocca came in first place with 148 after a well played final question. Clever team Name made a solo appearance tonight and came in 2nd with 141. Black Dogs finished out the group in 3rd place with 117. We are starting off with Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet – wherefore art thou Romeo? Natalie

Quincy’s – Gaithersburg, Maryland

As one of our most loyal teams, Blue Collar had finished in the top three in five out of the first seven weeks this season, including a couple of games decided by the tiebreaker.  It would not be necessary tonight, as they held the lead all night and secured the correct answer on the chemistry-themed final to take home their first win of the season.  Breadsticks took second with Suck It frosty in third.  The overall standings this season could not be any tighter!

We’ll be back next week with a question on the music of the Moody Blues!  ~ Matt
