There is a Season… For Monday Night Trivia!

Week 6 of Season XVII kicked off with a full slate of Monday night games featuring 82 teams across nine venues:

ROUND 1:

Monday’s opening round topics included the card game Uno (and its upcoming sequel with the appropriate title of Dos), the Montgomery Bus Boycott, and this Flying Tomato:

Shaun White

After one round of play, 13 teams posted perfect scores.

ROUND 2:

Monday’s audio question featured alliterative song titles such as “Ballroom Blitz” (The Sweet), “Barely Breathing” (Duncan Sheik), and “Bad Blood” (Taylor Swift).  We also took a look at this current sitcom:

Good Place

Only 13% of our teams earned bonus plints by knowing that Michael Schur (who also co-created “Parks and Recreation”) is the creator of “The Good Place”.  We closed the first half with this question on Comedy Film Characters:

–> Which comedic actor has starred in films which have included love interest characters such as Vicki Vallencourt, Veronica Vaughn, and Virginia Venit?

Just over half of our teams knew that the films in question were “The Waterboy”, “Billy Madison”, and “Happy Gilmore”, leading to the correct answer of Adam Sandler.  Only three of our Monday teams posted perfect second round scores: Wingardium Mimosa (DRP), Salty Cucumbers (DRP), and Cher’s Zombie Army (Uno Pizzeria).

HALFTIME:

With 2018 being the Year of the Dog, we quizzed our teams on celebrities also born in a Year of a Dog, while the matching section dealt with the surnames of cartoon characters.  This halftime page was the most difficult of Season XVII, with an overall average score of just 12.8 points, while yielding zero perfect scores.  Here is a look at Monday’s halftime leaderboard:

ROUND 3:

Monday’s second half included questions on the recent songwork of Ed Sheeran and the Oscar nominations earned by Johnny Depp.  The most difficult bonus question was posed as the early answer bonus in our nightly Three Clues question:

CLUE 1: Admitted on May 23, 1788, this was the eighth state to join the Union.

CLUE 2: This state recently proposed a law to fine people wearing excessively saggy pants.

Strange but true, the state legislature of South Carolina tried to ban saggy pants!  Only six teams earned bonus points here, but none of our teams were able to run the table in the third round.

ROUND 4:

Monday’s final round opened with this question on World Geography Word Play:

–> Name either one of the two European countries for which ‘E’ is the only vowel in the common English name.

Surprisingly, this question was a breeze for our teams, as more than half of the field earned bonus points with the two correct answers of Sweden and Greece.  We closed the final round with a three-part question on TV series which were adapted from literature, which included this work:

Mr. Mercedes

The final round yielded seven perfect scores on Monday night.  Here are your top scores heading into Monday’s final question:

MONDAY’S FINAL QUESTION (17.7% success rate):

–> Twenty-two members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have been inducted more than once.  There are two bands in which each of their members are included among those 22 Hall of Famers.  Name BOTH of these musical acts.

About one-sixth of our teams responded correctly with the Beatles and Crosby, Stills, and Nash.  A rather difficult final question meant that none of our teams scored the Perfect 21 on Monday by correctly answering all wagering questions.  Here are your top overall scores from Monday night:
