Thanks to a massive crowd of 25 teams at Springfield Manor Winery in Thurmont, our five weekend games welcomed 61 teams on this Memorial Day weekend!
Opening round topics from last weekend included Betty Boop, U.S. Vice presidents, Barbara Walters, and the film “Born on the Fourth of July”. The most difficult bonus question of the first round was asked on Saturday, as only two of our 28 Saturday teams knew that Ernie from “Sesame Street” is constantly attempting to learn how to play the saxophone. As a result, Little Lebowski Urban Achievers (Springfield Manor) recorded the only perfect score of last weekend’s first round.
Our weekend audio questions songs from Broadway musicals (“Evita”, “Wicked”, and “Oklahoma!”), as well as instrumental versions of pop songs “Piano Man” by Billy Joel, “Smooth” by Santana, and “Uptown Funk!” Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars). We continued with a look at chess prodigy Bobby Fischer, actress and singer Jennifer Hudson, and the structure of the Sonnet. The most difficult bonus question of the first half was asked on Friday night, as only one out of 33 Friday teams knew that Dwayne Johnson portrayed Roadblock in the “G.I. Joe” film series. Uncle Jack (Belles’) and Irish Beer Mafia (Pretzel & Pizza) each earned 36 second round points en route a perfect round.
