With a few of our regular venues taking the weekend off, we welcomed a slightly smaller crowd of 34 teams across our three games.
Each of our first rounds featured a sports question (sort of) which kept all of the perfect scores off the board this weekend. On Friday, only one team knew that the Atlanta Braves defeated the Cleveland Indians in the 1995 World Series. In an identical outcome, only one of our Saturday teams knew that the Charlestown Chiefs were the fictitious hockey team featured in the classic comedy film “Slap Shot”. This improved in the second round, as we listened to the theme song to the TV sitcom “Sanford and Son”, as well as unique cover versions of the songs “All About That Bass”, “You Oughta Know”, and “Iron Man”. We also visited the canteen and enjoyed a tasty screwdriver cocktail. The only perfect scores of the first half were both recorded in the second stanza, as Five Heads, One Brain (Springfield Manor) and Full Bullpen (Belles’) each posted a second round score of 36 points.
Halftime topics from last weekend included music group pictograms, films whose titles start with the letter ‘A’, and U.S. Secretaries of State. Across the board, four teams earned a perfect score of 20 points, while the overall average landed at 15.9 points Here is the halftime leaderboard from last weekend:
- Five Heads, One Brain (Springfield Manor): 88
- Weasigators (Springfield Manor): 85
- Fat Kids Are Hard to Kidnap (Springfield Manor): 85
- Walkersville Outlaws (Springfield Manor): 83
- FOUR TEAMS TIED WITH 82 POINTS
Our Saturday teams got off to a rough start in the second half, as we delivered a one-two punch that floored most of the field. First, only two teams recognized the name of the lead characters on the former Nickelodeon series “Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!”. Next, we queried our teams on these world population statistics:
–> In June 2017, The United Nations released a population projection for countries of the world for 2050. Currently the seventh most populous nation, which country is expected to pass the U.S. by 2050 as the third most populous country?
Only two teams gave us the correct answer of Nigeria. Other second half topics from last weekend included the WNBA, “Dungeons & Dragons”, bourbon, 1990s song lyrics, and the rivalry between the Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys. None of our weekend teams recorded a perfect sore in either of the final two rounds. These were your highest scoring teams after four rounds of play:
- Five Heads, One Brain (Springfield Manor): 159
- Weasigators (Springfield Manor): 157
- Fat Kids Are Hard to Kidnap (Springfield Manor): 156
- Less is More Strike Back (Springfield Manor): 154
- Full Bullpen (Belles’): 154
FRIDAY’S FINAL QUESTION (85.7% success rate):
–> What is the only building located in the United States on which another flag properly flies above the American flag?
SATURDAY’S FINAL QUESTION (50.0% success rate):
–> In 1985, a lunchbox featuring this film character became the last metal lunchbox produced in the U.S., before safety and economic concerns caused manufacturers to switch to plastic alternatives. For your wager, identify this film character whose first name is John.
The correct answers to these questions were United Nations Headquarters and Rambo. None of our teams earned a Perfect 21 last weekend, as each team missed at least one wagering question correctly. Here is your final overall leaderboard:
- Five Heads, One Brain (Springfield Manor): 171
- Weasigators (Springfield Manor): 169
- Fat Kids Are Hard to Kidnap (Springfield Manor): 168
- Less is More Strike Back (Springfield Manor): 166
- Fab Five (Springfield Manor): 155
- Irish Beer Mafia (Pretzel & Pizza): 154
- Full Bullpen (Belles’): 154
- Fifth Street’s Finest (Springfield Manor): 153
- Cultured Heathens (Pretzel & Pizza): 152
- The Team Must Not Be Named (Springfield Manor): 152
